Just been looking through E.on's terms and conditions.

It looks like although initially we would fit into the broader group, my 2 children in receipt of DLA, as neither are over 60, and I make a third person, we fail to meet the criteria :-(

    have a look here

    http://www.eonenergy.com/At-Home/ExistingCustomers/Warm-Home-Discount.htm

Warm Home Discount is a Government led scheme which came into effect earlier this year and is designed to offer support to customers likely to be at risk of fuel poverty. One of the ways we’ll do this is to pay rebates to our electricity customers who meet the eligibility criteria. In the first year of the scheme the rebates will be worth £120.

We’re working with the Department of Work and Pensions to identify customers in receipt of the guaranteed credit element of pension credit. These people will automatically qualify for a rebate and will not need to apply. Eligible customers will receive a letter from the Department of Work and Pensions advising them of this.

In addition E.ON electricity customers who do not receive the guaranteed credit element of pension credit but meet the following criteria may apply for a rebate. We have a limited number to offer each year so there is a chance not everyone who applies will be given a rebate this year, but we’ll keep your details and contact you again next year.

    Eligibility Check

You or your partner must be in receipt of one of the benefits in section 1; or

You or your partner must be in receipt of one the benefits in section 2 and one from section 3.

    Section 1
    • State Pension Credit
    • Child Tax Credit (where the relevant income is £16,190 or less)

    Section 2
    • Income related employment and support allowance
    • Income support
    • Income based Job Seekers Allowance

    Section 3
    • Pensioner Premium
    • Child Tax Credit-including disability or severe disability elements
    • Disabled child premium
    • Disability or severe disability premium
    • Child under 5 living in property
Please note you may be required to provide documentary evidence to confirm eligibility.

I'm with scottish hydro for electricity and Scottish gas for gas. I'm on DLA and WTC and I must be classed as low income as I am entitled to a LHA top up on my rent. Does anyone know if I qualify for this?

I get WTC and claim DLA.

Here's Hydro's qualifying criteria https://www.hydro.co.uk/WarmHomeDiscountApplication/ there's nothing mentioned about WTC. They seem to be basing their criteria on Income Support/Income related ESA and Income Based JSA AND the likes of DLA etc

I'm also entitled to rent and council tax rebate but don't qualify for the scheme because I'm on IB and not IS.

  • E-on's criteria has changed since I originally looked, and the CTC option has been added to Section 1.

As I now meet the conditions, I have filled out the online form, and a postal one, just for good luck :-)

I suppose we're all playing a waiting game to see what money E-on have available.
It would be nice to hear soon if we've been accepted.
  • The situation has changed since last summer, all those who are automatically 'passported' should receive [ without asking ] a letter from their supplier informing them of their automatic right to this benefit. They know little of your personal benefit details, the little they do know is a complex subject I won't go into here, sufficient to say they don't know you .. .. they know only your MPAN. Those in the passported group should hear from their supplier in writing before the end of Feb this year .. .. and must return the signed document before the 28th March this year.

Those in the 'vulnerable ' group even though they have no automatic passport rights may still qualify for a rebate and shroud apply in the usual way.

  • I am on the npower spreading warmth tariff since last March. Will I need to contact them regarding this new discount?

Also, is there anywhere customers can check companies tariffs, as I'm not sure npower is the cheapest.
  • Reading this and I feel like crying as yet again myself and my partner will miss out as we aren't on the right benefits, i'm on contributions based ESA for mental health and physical health problems (was told income related and that was wrong) and my partner is on long term IB and has had his ESA assessment and they kept him on IB. We are barely able to keep our house warm let alone eat we have to try and keep our shopping bill to below £50 a fortnight through winter to make sure we can heat our house. I don't know what else to do now. I don't want to joint claim as my partner has been on IB for 12 years now for his various illnesses and I want to go back to work if I ever stop having panic attacks when I go out and get the ops I need on my knees cause I know it will mess up his claim when I do go back. I wish this had never happened to me even though I know I would have lost my job through redundancy I had to give up a £28k+ job because my body and mind failed and now I can't get any help from the thousands I paid in over the years to the system.
well today was a complete waste of make up
  • This has probably been asked before how do you go about it. He is on incapacity disability and income support.

    Got a letter today

    Good news - you're getting a rebate

We contacted you about the possibility of receiving a Warm Front Home Discount - Support Plus rebate from us. From the information you provided, it seems you are eligible to receive financial support with your electricity bill.

The exact amount will be £120 including VAT and you'll be receiving another letter from us in the next few weeks with details of how to claim this and add it to your prepayment meter.

For now though, you don't have to do a thing, as we're continuing to work on this on your behalf.

    Yours sincerely

    - two different groups 'core' & 'broader' group
    - good a~n~other person entitles to help gets it
    - for others as stated in #65 it should be an automatic right for the core group

    The Core Group

    - - big companies should help the [core group] poorest, automatically
    - - the 'core group' would be for example in receipt of guarantee element of Pension Credit
    - - the core group should not have to do anything at all, no need to contact anyone - they should contact you

    The Broader Group

    - - its a bit more complicated - eligibility will depend on your specific energy supplier
    - - qualifying criteria could include being in receipt of :

    - the savings element of Pension Credit
    - claiming Income Support
    - income-related Employment and Support Allowance
    - income-based Job Seeker's Allowance
    - or simply being in a household with below minimum income
    - you may also qualify if you are on Long-term Incapacity Benefit
    - or if you or a child in your household receives DLA
    - alternatively you may only need to have a child in the household aged under five to qualify

Look at your suppliers website, if you are eligible under your own energy provider's criteria, it should send you a letter requesting more information about your circumstances. This must be returned to your supplier by 28 March 2012 at the latest if you want to benefit.

Availability for the Broader Group scheme is limited, and the discount given by different suppliers is limited so it's a good idea to contact your energy supplier in advance just in case you miss out. If you can't work out if your supplier caters for the Broader Group scheme contact the Warm Home Discount Scheme Helpline direct on 0845 603 9439 for more information.
