  • the way i read this means that if you're on a low income ie income support as well as receiving a disability premium, that you would qualify

so i've just rung my supplier...scottish power....to be told that its only offered to those over 80 years of age, and its done automatically

the guy basically said that its not there to help the disabled :( is he right or was he fobbing me off?

i've tried to wade thru all the technical jargon but i get lost before i'm even half way thru!

  • Thanks for the info.

I think i may be entitled to claim on the scheme. Im really worried about the winter coming. Im going to ring about it tomorrow.

Im with Npower and on their vunerable list ( cant remember what its called) where someone comes out to me if the power goes off. I've been the scheme for over a year now so wouldn't you have thought they would have contacted me about social tariffs.

Go for it - nPowers ' Spreading Warmth ' social tariff is about £200 cheaper than standard dual fuel tariffs, based on notional consumption of 16.500kwhs gas and 3,300kwhs electricity.

I'm with npower and recently changed to their 'spreading the warmth' tariff. Does that mean I wouldn't qualify for the warm front discount scheme or is this tariff part of it ?I get pension credit and DLA but npower have never asked for any proof of this.
Sorry but I'm a bit of a numpty with a lot of this sort of stuff.
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Totally unrelated mary-op, the utility companies do offer some ' energy saving ' components but its totally separate to Warm Front. Warm Front for example most people think of free insulation but they unlike npower offer grants for :

    loft insulation
    draughtproofing
    cavity wall insulation
    hot water tank insulation
gas, electric, liquid petroleum gas or oil heating
glass-fronted fire - the Warm Front scheme can convert your solid-fuel open fire to a glass-fronted fire
    etc

The Spreading Warmth Tariff which has now been closed to new applications and a new version called The Warm Home Discount is being offered instead. Both the old and new versions are about giving a discount of about £120pa to those who are classed as ' fuel poor'.

The Warm Front scheme is about giving up to £6,000 of help to those who are deserving. A big difference between £120 and £6,000 and yes you are allowed to have both if you are entitled.

    Hope this helps you .. .. mary-op !

Richie - thanks for the info. I'll give npower a ring on Monday and see what they say.
It was a few months ago I applied for spreading the warmth tariff and no-one told me it was ending or any replacement scheme.
I've had help from warmfront before with loft insulation and new boiler -was very thankful for that.
