Thanks for the above posts.
I have not heard about this scheme so I went to my providers web site and filled out the necessary form..I will be contacted by them within 10 days of applying. I will keep you all informed of the outcome,I am over 60yr and get pension credit.
Why don't the fuel companies write to their customers to inform them of this scheme, that way all who are entitled would benefit.[/QUOTE
Have had an e mail from Atlantic (scottish power), to say that subject to proof, I am entitled to the £120 per yr for my Electricity account. They will write to me to give them proof of my pension credit and will receive payment in March 2012 and each year thereafter.
Thanks Rich for the link.

I was told, this morning, by npower that because we're on the Spreading Warmth Tariff we're not eligible for the £120 discount. The DWP, this afternoon, said that there is no reason why the discount should not be paid. I checked the direct.gov site but could not find an answer. It seems that the energy company can make its own rules on the subject. We are eligible by the relevant criterion of being in receipt of Pension Credit guarantee credit.
- the DWP are nothing whatsoever to do with the discount, neither are the Government
- the reason you are not eligible is because you are already on it under its old name, you can't have it twice !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Government:
Warm Home Discount Scheme
see direct gov Pensions and Retirement Planning
And it is the DWP which sets the criteria for eligibility. As I said "because we're on the Spreading Warmth Tariff we're not eligible for the £120 discount"
With further reading you will find out how different companies are dealing with requests made by Energy Minister Greg Barker.
The bold type and the exclamation mark were helpful though.

Different companies are not dealing differently with the (1) core group, but are allowed to deal differently with the (2) broader group. Have a little read here for who is doing what exactly.
When I said the DWP & the Government are nothing to do with it - I meant they are nothing to do with helping anyone reading these threads get registered to receive the discount - otherwise people reading what you said in an earlier # number would do what you did and waste their time and money ringing Government agencies and / or / the DWP who are nothing whatsoever to do with delivering the scheme.
OFGEM set the criteria not the DWP.
The Energy Act 2010 provides the regulations to introduce schemes for the purposes of reducing fuel poverty.
The WHD Regulations 2011 allow for the disclosure
Section 142 of the Pensions Act 2008, allows for data sharing.
Section 13 of the Energy Act 2010 obligates OFGEM to review and assert compliance by licensed suppliers
• A Core Group – this would be the majority of spend from energy suppliers over the four years of the scheme (2011-12 to 2014-15). These are a well-targeted group of the poorest pensioners who have a high propensity to fuel poverty and a higher risk of excess winter deaths. This section of the model would build on the 2010 Energy Rebate Scheme, a successful data matching pilot between DWP, DECC and the six major energy suppliers that resulted in an £80 rebate being provided to over 200,000 of the poorest pensioner households this year.
• A Broader Group – whilst the Core Group have a high tendency to be fuel poor, it is recognised that other groups are at risk of fuel poverty. The proposals would therefore also ensure some support will be available for other groups of vulnerable consumers.

Has anyone here got the £120 YET. I contacted British Gas months ago and asked about it think it was in August just before price rise. They said they are getting rid of essentials tariff which we are on to this scheme0

I'm with scottish hydro for electricity and Scottish gas for gas. I'm on DLA and WTC and I must be classed as low income as I am entitled to a LHA top up on my rent. Does anyone know if I qualify for this?
I get WTC and claim DLA.0 -
