    Good afternoon Matrix.

I got some news about that job I applied for at Oxford University... unfortunately, they are not going to take my application any further. It was a lovely email that I received, and I was so impressed that they bothered to tell me the status of my application I wrote them an email saying so! They replied with an offer of two other potential jobs i could apply for, but both of them are in London. I would rather gouge my own eyes out with rusty teaspoons than work in London - I know some people love it, but I just can't bear it, so I know this is the best thing for me to do. I have asked if they could keep my CV on their records in case anything else suitable comes up.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: But still - made me wonder, if she is charging that kind of money then some of my other skills might be marketable:D

Crickett - several years ago I applied for my Dream job and was knocked back - they made a lovely phone call to let me know - and I responded by sending them a tin of HM Scottish Tablet as a thank you.

Three weeks later I got a call asking if I could start my "dream job" in a week as the guy they had given it to was a "plank".

What they remembered was how gracious I was on the phone ( and the sweeties) and I got the job without a formal interview. I had made myself completely and utterly "memorable" to them- so when they came a cropper it was me they called.

Stayed with them 3 years till I was head hunted for another position.

My Mum calls it "niceing" someone.

Your Mum has a way with words! I shall add that to my vocabulary!

    Re the teaching idea.

I don't know if you have done it before, if so ignore this.

You need to allow at least twice the hours as you have a lot of preparation so that halves the hourly rate.
You have to hire a suitable room.
You have to provide materials for the students to have a go.
You can't have many in a class for that sort of subject.

It can be a nice little earner but takes a while to get off the ground as word spreads and then comes to a natural full stop when everyone around who is interested has been. I extended it quite a bit by finding out what people wanted to do next and providing that.

By then, you will have had another idea anyway so all will be well.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

    I NEEEEED YOU SOUK!!!

Actually - you all can probably help too.

I need to know what you ladies would consider to be a capsule wardrobe so that I can do the tutorials.

    So far

    The perfect wrap dress
    The perfect pencil skirt
    The perfect A line skirt
    The perfect pair of trousers
    The perfect fitted jacket

What else should I make? Considering I am sitting here in jeans and an Oh so elegant fleece to stop the sawdust flying where it shouldn't:rotfl:

Aaaarghh!!! you are right - the perfect white shirt - the staple of every wardrobe:D

Cardigans?? Mmmm might need to ponder that one as a perfectly fitted cardigan is possible but not sure my knitting pattern drafting is up to the job:o

plain shift dress to wear with the jacket (1.5 metres of fabric max). If it is sleeveless and a V neck or scoop you could wear the white shirt under it and finish it with a wide belt.

I'd get the jacket in a black tweedy fleck fabric so you can wear plain black skirt, trousers and dress with it and they would all go without it having to be a suit. If you do manage to get a suit then make a cardigan jacket in black fleck material to ring the changes
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

My thoughts exactly. Now could you run classes based on those tutorials... In fact, could other matrix members with the appropriate skills collaborate in putting them together and run classes in their areas... Perhaps something to take over the other side? ;)

Office trip done. Receipts handed to accounts to lose... Pension investments jiggled... New ethical fund added, new emerging market fund added, some boring stuff dropped... Now just need to decide what my contribution level needs to be, currently it's 8% but at the bargain prices everything is going at right now maybe I should invest more

I'm so glad I don't have to do that commute daily anymore :D

ETA hospital have called and test was negative so no excuses not to go ahead on Friday :(
