Thrifty, I would like to help if we can.
What is your biggest worry?
Redundancy is out of your control so don't worry about that until next February apart from brushing up OH CV and keeping in contact with anyone who may know of other jobs. If he was made redundant could he stay at home whilst you go back to work? Could you find a variety of part time jobs between you?
As for your son, you'll have to bear with me here as I don't know enough about him but you have said that he is highly intelligent, could you work to his strengths and set up a business involving both of you? I had a business making chutney and selling it at craft fairs, I could see he would find the face to face talking to customers difficult but a pair of hands to help lift and carry and to help make the stuff and plot sales on a spreadsheet would all have been useful.
I know planning anything like that takes a tremendous amount of mental energy which you might not have at the moment but give it a slow mull over when you have a spare minute.0 -

The point I am trying to make (although not very well) is this - we, like other people out here are sinking, we are at breaking point as a family and when you are in this position it is not helpful to be told that you are moaning and feeling sorry for yourself especially when you are hanging on by your fingernails trying to cope. So please, please, even if you have the best intentions in the world, think before you type
Thrifty, my heart goes out to you. I love your common sense and the support you give on here. Alot of people are sinking and i think its not always possible however hard you try, to keep positive, in some situations. Its very sad indeed, if you have been told you are moaning and feeling sorry for yourself?
I can't give you a hug physically, but a hug from me anyway. I would miss you.

:hello::hello: I'm here! I've been busy getting a project off the ground and then, when there was a problem, I really didn't think I had anything to add so I kept quiet - now, there's a first. :rotfl:
Sending good vibes to all who need them and hugs to those who need them. I hope all who have mislaid their mojos find them again soon. Sometimes there is nothing you can do except sit it out.But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Just thought I'd pop in and apologise for being AWOL - we still aren't online  - no time to catch up but hope everyone is well xxNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130

Whew!!! Busy morning.
Finished a bit of DS2's bedroom, quick whizz around shop for frozen veg and parmesan (requests for risotto from our little gourmet's)
Said "No thank-you" to an evening class teaching you how to paint furniture (£250 for 6 hours)
Credit Union for weekly deposit.
Then spent £1.75 on a piece of wool gaberdine in a lovely grey fleck that will make a high waisted pencil skirt with sexy pleat detail in he back. I am collecting lovely fabrics to make a capsule working wardrobe in the new year.
I am copying this from the "Hobbs" website - but as I have a zip and a length of lining in stock I shall be spending £1.75 instead of £99.:T

Then collected DS2 from playgroup and home again for a cuppa.
The sun is out so we are off to spend the afternoon in the park.

Good afternoon Matrix.
I got some news about that job I applied for at Oxford University... unfortunately, they are not going to take my application any further. It was a lovely email that I received, and I was so impressed that they bothered to tell me the status of my application I wrote them an email saying so! They replied with an offer of two other potential jobs i could apply for, but both of them are in London. I would rather gouge my own eyes out with rusty teaspoons than work in London - I know some people love it, but I just can't bear it, so I know this is the best thing for me to do. I have asked if they could keep my CV on their records in case anything else suitable comes up.
In similar news, someone in my office has handed in their resignation today. I feel really quite green with envy. However, that was merely a passing thought, and I have administered myself my own kick in the bahookie (which is quite a feat, let me tell you!). I am thinking that the Universe has another plan entirely for me, one that will be much better for me than Oxford, and this place, and all I need to do is find it. It is on its way. And in helping it get closer to me, I am going to send my CV to the Accountancy Job Agencies around here, as well as writing a couple of moonshot applications to places I would like to work. I have nothing to lose by either strategy.
My creative side is getting a big old workout at the moment too - On Saturday i went to Hobbycraft (oh man... dangerous!) and I came out with supplies to make a wreath and a Christmas table decoration as well. It was fabulous!!I made them on Saturday, and then decided to go and make something for cats of my acquaintance... I have come up with a design for a catnip mouse!
I have made two of them so far, and my three kitties are deeply impressed with them! And I love making them because they are fast to do, and they are using up some of my enormous (enormouse?!
) fabric stash!! Need to figure out a design for some doggie toys and then I can make all my four legged friends a Christmas present as well!
Sorry for the long post... Lots of love and positivity to all of you...!"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440
