Sometimes it is not denial that you are in, it is acceptance but with a hold off clause attached if you understand what I am trying to say

Yip I get that, it's a good way of looking at it.

    Nice dress Claire :D

Greenbee - I think just upstairs and so far only in 3 of the bedrooms - 2 have carpet, our's doesn't but we do have a connecting door/wardrobe to DS3's room which has carpet too. So far one of DS1's jumpers, one of DS3's tops and several of my clothes. My wardrobe has been fully hoovered. All wool items put in the freezer for 72 hours. Tomorrow I'll hoover completely under the beds and everywhere upstairs and see if I come across anything - still not seen a moth or sign of anything. This will be great for making the boys keep stuff off the floors.

Really cross at myself for using the wrong plastic whilst away. We are not talking much money but I'm cross because it is my fault and it is wasted money when I had researched so hard to avoid charges. Off to do a bit of cleaning and have a cup of tea.

Also with C in mind, I bought reduced price olive oil a few months ago and also found organic coconut oil reduced to a bargainous 49p a jar. I've cashed in long-saved Sainsb points for a stick blender. Now all I need is a few other ingredients and I'll be able to get cracking to make soap. As a soap rookie I'm a wee bittie nervous but also quite excited at the creativity and practicality of it. Can anyone reassure me it is easy to do?! If I can find some cheap loofahs I quite fancy making soap-filled loofah chunks. Paired with a knitted soft cotton facecloth, wrapped in florist's cellophane with a snazzy bow, would be good.

Like MG I'm looking to simplify and save wherever I can, and so this year's gifts will all be home-made and simple - something knitted/something foodie/something soapy. Once I've established the tradition, I can just keep going from one Christmas to the next - oh it's Groatie's soap/face cloth/scarf/biscotti :rotfl::rotfl:.

If anyone's interested, there's a great version of a Christmas chutney which is no-cook. Saves on electricity/gas, and means little people can help with making it. If you would like the recipe just holler. It needs a few weeks/months to mature.

Me, me, me, oh, me, please! :D

Bl00dy hell, clairewop, you mean you can fit in Jane Norman dresses? In my experience, they are for SERIOUSLY skinny minnies, and the dresses don't correspond to to the sizes - you need to be even skinnier to fit in them than advertised. I am impressed. :p

MG: many happy returns to DS1. I guess it doesn't be long in coming around - has he started asking about the birds and the bees yet?

And as for the whole under bed Feng Shui thing: I agree about having an increase in space, but the whole notion of FS has been taken to an ridiculous length in the West: it's not like that at all in the East (I lived there, so it's fair to say).

    just what I was thinking.

I don't know about feng shui and space under the bed. It's more about energy flows, electromagnetic radiation, ley lines etc...

The new bath is FABULOUS :D Fits in the same space as the old one but is wider internally with narrow edges. Comfortable sloping back for reading in the bath and the low pressure taps really do help it fill up faster (the bubble bath bubbles and everything). Whatever was adding nasty black bits to the water has gone, and it appears to empty faster too.

Glad you like your new bath Greenbee.

I've just realised that I've left one of the library books on holiday and I'm so cross with myself. I went around the place 3 times checking for left items. I know what I've done. I moved the book to the shelf of the bedside table to wipe all the sides before we left (they were not very clean when we arrived) and I never moved it back.

With the book and the bank card errors I'm beating myself up. Why do I do this? I really find it difficult to forgive myself for mistakes and am probably too harsh on my family too. This needs to be something I address but for the minute I'm too busy being cross with myself.

    Hey MG. Mentors & Matrix

Here is one for you..... What is the purpose of denial? Why do we deny?

So far I have come up with:
To avoid pain - this seems to me to be the first, the simplest and most obvious reason.

That's not the whole story tho', it's more complicated so I have also come up with:
To avoid accepting a reality that you don't want
    or:
To keep you in a certain place until you are strong enough to deal with an unwanted reality

But still that's not the whole story for I have found that you swing back and forth between denial and acceptance - why do we do that?

I think I have accepted my unwanted reality but if I am not careful denial will weave it's magic taking me back again to a more wanted reality which is not good because then you have to face the head / heart pain of loss again.

I am hoping that someone will have experience of what I am wittering on about and may be able to advise, Thriftyxxx

You've had lots of answers and I don't think 2 1/2 years is long to work something like that into a reality you can accept. Anyway, I had a little think and here's my take on it.

Could part of it be that we can’t accept completely until we have faced every aspect of the reality?

I can relate to this in my own experience where there was one piece of the jigsaw that I had left in the box for 3 years before I had the courage to take it out, slot it into place and really see the whole picture.

Only then was I ready to accept and actually see opportunities. Only then was I ready to take the opportunities, some of which had been there the whole time.

Also, remember that ‘there is a season for all things’. That grief and loss is real whether the loss is of a person, a way of life, health - whatever.

Grief can’t be hurried or it festers away and may come out in unexpected ways and at inappropriate times. Again, it’s baby steps. The wound forms a scab, scab dries up, falls off, another forms. Each time the wound heals a little more.

Of course, if the injury was serious, a permanent scar will result – though even that will fade somewhat over the years. If the wound has been plastered over without being cleansed, it may form an abscess – which is my analogy for grief festering. I think Cheri's 'hold off clause' is a good way of putting it.

    Hugs however it feels.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

Lost track a bit, but who was it that was making soap? Think it was GQ.
Its one of my favourite activities, and sooo easy. Family now expect a soap pack at Christmas. Bath salts are also easy to do, and look so impressive for little cost.

The main thing to get right is adding the lye, that can go seriously wrong, so if its your first time, don't calculate it yourself, use a recipe.

If its just for family and friends, then use anything for moulds, I use an old loaf tin!

    Have fun!

    Mornming ladies,

Good news to report I have another second interview!!!! You know the one I went to on Friday, well it was short notice and I Really couldn't read whether they liked me or whether they thought I was a risk but there are 3 of us being called for 2nd interviews soon. Mine is next week in Newcastle. I'm in London with work next week too for two days. Thank goodness for my trundly suitcase!

Thrifty, re denial I deny fear its place as I'm aware that it could take over and stop me doing stuff. I DO have fears about my imminenet move but have to beleive it will be fine for it to be so IYSWIM.

Re the challenges, I only did under the bed last week whilst looking for holiday bits so all tickety boo there. off to look for the next one.

    Have good Saturdays all XXX

..and I daren't even look under my bed. Dust bunnies have now given up on it. Suitcases with summer clothes, from long gone holidays , and that have been long out of fashion and no longer fit.

Off to read my 'change management' stuff as you've got me thinking.
