  • Out from Lurkdom... still not finished reading all the Make Do & Mend but oh boy, you are all having an effect on my household.
    1. Started batch cooking & freezing; freezer full of yummy 'instant' food
    2. 15mins of cleaning madness; amazing how clean my flat looks all the time
    3. Reading the Secret; now my day starts with gratitude and continues on with noticing all the good things that come my way

Thanks Ladies. I may not post but be assured your good ideas are far reaching.
But the best news of the week is I've found a garden to share through the Landshare website. It's just down the road from me and the owners are lovely. Now I can start to grow veg in more than a couple of windowboxes. Frugal and green, how very sustainable.

best wishes to you all, especially those with snivles and snuffles
May you be safe. May you be happy. May you be healthy. May you live with your heart at ease.
  • Welcome, lezzle_nz  feel free to delurk and stay delurked! :D

Well done on all your cooking, cleaning, reading and growing: you are fast on the path to Old Style mastery! :)

Hi all, Back home for the weekend and glad of it. Been reading but not posting.

MG hope all goes well with DS1. Bullying is horrible. I was 'different' in one way or other all through school so it wasn't easy but I got through it by keeping all my hobbies going. I did laugh about your theatre stuff. I was dancing in a panto all through my prelims!!! The teachers didn't like it, but I did well so what could they do?

Hugs to all those who feel run down. We all need to watch as the weather gets harsher. My skin is not great just now so going to the health food shop tomorrow to get stuff as I wont be around to see a dermatologist and go the conventional route for a while. Too much yeast has led to me having seboreheic dermatitis. Its like cradle cap but on an adult. NOT good in a black uniform!

Groatie, hope the house sells hon! X

Childless this morning as the kids were at Grandmas last night - so up and dressed early to take advantage.

L**L has an offer on this weekend for mince - a pack at £1.09 - so going to buy four packs to cook down for quikie evening meals (DS1 loves mince and dumplings so a pack does us three meals as it is padded out)

A bag of carrots will give me enough veggies to make another pan of soup and will keep the spends quite low.

Then I am upstairs to start cutting the timbers for DS2's bedroom - I need to cut about a million 12" pieces to use as noggins which will create loads of sawdust and be pretty noisy - so today I shall be MG the Builder.

I too feel like hibernating - feels like everything is slowing down, but my HUUUUUUUGE!!!! goal is to have DS2 tucked up in his new room by Xmas Eve so sitting around won't get it done. Even though all I feel like doing is sitting down and knitting.

So - in response to a conversation with a Matrixette - I am compiling a "Deserve it December" series - less like our usual challenges, more special treats for us all to enjoy on the run up to the day. Cheap gifts, recipes, treats, motivational articles from the Mentors and gentle challenges. There are so many that they will be starting next week over on MFi3 - so ladies if you see someone in RL who needs a lift point them there.

I'm off to get the shopping then hit the chop saw.

ETA Please let me know that none of you were on the M5 last night? Just caught the news and the accident looks horrific. My heart is with all involved.

. I have got this Springboard personal development course starting soon, so that will be quite interesting. i hope it will be a confidence boost.

I've been on that course and it was really good although I don't think I was quite ready for it. It will boost your confidence and help you look at areas that you would like to change.

I was awake when the story came through about the crash, it is horrific :( thinking of everyone involved, a few MSERs have mentioned they were going to go that way or know people in the area. Let's hope they are all safe.

thanks for heads up MG on l!dl mince. Will aim to go and get some today.

By the way, my friend sweetcorn lolly, cannot find her way back to this thread, that is why she hasn't been on, she has been reading MSE but couldn't find her way back. Am going to send her link via email.

The site is a bit confusing when you are new - I've been here years an don't venture very far (mind you that is because this is the friendliest thread)

Shopping done and dusted - and even been out to timber yard for a box of screws - a whole £5.99 on screws!!!! But I did meet the builder doing up next door and he gave me a few handfulls of other screws so I figure I am even on the spends.

Quick cuppa then off I go to play with my woodwork toys (keep everything crossed that I remember what I am doing)

This is going to take "Make Do and Mend" to a whole new level to me

  • From sofas and soups to sawdust and screws.... you're a marvel MG :T:T

Came downstairs to the "showhome", not much left to do and a friend is coming over late morning and he will do as much as he can with the leaves at the back. Phew. Hopefully it will be a bit warmer by then, it was -1C a little while ago.

My heart quailed for the loss and pain of those caught up in the pile-up. Love and light to them all, including the rescue services. Maintaining professionalism and dealing with the practicalities - very tough job, and so vital.

    Have a good day everyone.
If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

  • I too have a lot of trees in the front - so I am going to sweep/scrape up the leaves in my and mad lady's (lady upstairs) parking spaces. They seem to have tipped their leaves upon my car last night.

I had a friend over for dinner last night - i made fish pie. It was lovely. It cost me 85p in total (for some cheese) because I used bits in the freezer.... and I have enough left for 2 more meals (I assume I can't freeze it again, so I am having it tonight and tomorrow I suppose!)

The M5 crash looks awful. It's definitely here but for the grace of God go I moment - i was meant to be at work in Bristol on Thursday, London yesterday and travelling back home last night, but it was postponed for a month!!! I think I would probably have been in just the wrong place at the wrong time... phew!

Right, off to battle the leaves... see you later xx
