Had my parent meeting today at playgroup - looking through DS2's PLP (personal Learning plan). They are "concerned" that he is so interested in numbers, recognises so many letters and has got a really good understanding of phonics.

Bear in mind that he is 3 years and (counts on fingers) 6 months - they are worried that he might be "bored at school" if he continues!!!!! :rotfl::rotfl: - so hand up a Teacher who would be annoyed at a littlie arriving at school willing to learn?

So I shrugged my shoulders, said "that's OK - just let him choose" - "but when we do he chooses to do the literacy and numercy stuff" - "that's because he is in the sensitive period for numbers!!!"

The thing is you can't stop him counting at the moment, but you know what next week it will be "I-spy" and the week after dinosaurs or cars. he's three and therefore not endowed with the attention span of a post-graduate:D.

Storm in a tea-cup. However he has friends, can share, wash his hands, eat with a knife and fork and says "thank-you" - Job Done ladies :T

MG - these days some folks like to put kids into boxes and start fretting when they show an interest in things because they don't conform. I can remember when I first started school aged 4, I could already read and write and mum was asked to go into the school because they thought I had something wrong with me, needless to say mum soon put them right:rotfl: Heck, by the time I left primary school in 1971, I had already taught myself to speak French (I had found one of mum's old text books Mon Libre). Languages and books still fascinate me to this day:D

I can remember when my cousin Stuart was little, he was obsessed with numbers and to keep him entertained in the car my aunt and uncle would ask him to count, one day they were stuck behind a tractor next to a field of cows and he was asked how many cows he could see thinking that he would count them; he replied "I can see all of them mummy":rotfl: One of my other cousins has two small boys and a baby girl - the boys are obsessed with music, James plays piano and violin and has perfect pitch - I tried singing happy birthday to him once and the delightful child said that I sounded like a cat trapped in a bucket:eek:

now what I love about my nursery - they were shocked when DS got there aged 3 and could already count to 10 and backwards. Did not believe me that he could count to 10 and actually recognised the numbers. He reads bus numbers and tells me where they are going, not because he can read letters but recognises the destination from me telling him.

He is 4 in 2 weeks, can count to 100, needs a bit of help with 50, 60, 70 but otherwise all repetition and he can do that.

recognised the milkway (courtesy of peppa pig)

and when I mentioned we were doing phonics at home and teaching him to read, they suggested they send books home with him weekly so I could teach him at home.

not so much read but recognise letters.

my friend who I am trying to get to join Mse, her DD is 4 and can write her own name unaided. And it is not an easy name either!

DS loves numbers. Constantly counting when we are out, hoping it leads to good things ;) but have noticed he has very slight OCD tendencies. I blame the father.

Well done to MG. I'll bet you couldn't quite believe it till it was actually in your account. Playgroup folk sound like a bunch of idjits!

FW : have sent positive vibes (I don't think they are time limited ;)) for your friend. You take care as well.

Thrifty : I hereby award you the Medal of Bravery Above and Beyond the Call of Duty which is awarded to Mums who clean their sons rooms. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Why are you laughing? Its very prestigious in the right circles.

Miserable weather here and about to delve into the bottom shelves of the bottom cupboards in the kitchen. I can't get down there easily and getting up may be a major effort, but needs must - I've not been in there for so long, I can't remember what is in them. I feel an uncluttering coming on.

Don't wait up for me.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

FW - reiki and hugs to your friend x

May I have good luck vibes for tomorrow morning, I've got the first viewing of my house :):) It's not online and no board up yet, as I only had the floor plan done yesterday, but here's hoping.......just need to rehoover and mop the floors and the place should be looking sparkly and buyable tomorrow.

And DD is on her way back home, yippee!!!!!! Can't wait to have a hug with my girl :)

The tale of MG's son reminds me that meny moons ago at one of my son's parents evening - he was about six, I think - the teacher complained that he knew the answers to all the questions she asked :eek::eek:

Needless to say the question as to whether she thought her questions might be too simple was not well received!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
