  • Onion, carrot and celery is stock isn't it? If you have a gap in freezer, it'd be worth making?

I though of that TMIF, or just sweated as a base for tomato sauces. But I'm down to the last few square millimetres of space, so will need to see how I go after I empty and restack the inside freezer later tonight. I'll do the outside one tomorrow...

I have decided to throw out all the horrible opaque tights I won't wear (if anyone wants them for stuffing draught excluders PM me :p). I have lots of nice soft cotton ones to keep me going. I also discovered a few pairs of stockings. Not sure when I'll wear them, but I'll hang on to those.

So far I've only cleared two tiny drawers (I keep my underwear in a CD chest) so it's a good thing OH appears to be moving in one pair of socks at a time...

Am a novice at using stuff up - how do you turn these into something resembling food? (I hate mint but would substitute some other herby thing)

Think I need to do a fridge sweep as dh did the shop this week which was a bit like asking a toddler - lots of crispy sweety stuff, lots of very cheap meat and lots of squashy salad stuffed on top of salad already in fridge - can feel a lot of soup coming on!

I must try that tip on the chapatti flour too :)

Glad you found a recipe TMIF. My OH insists on fancy rice but I like it much better with plain old basmati.

    Nice dinners, everyone

TMIF - jambalaya works if you only have normal long grain rice. Basically saute onion, add turmeric, garlic and paprika till it is a pretty colour, then add chopped toms, chicken stock and long grain rice. Add whatever veg and protein you have and cook till it is thick and the rice is cooked. We had it earlier this week with dregs of chicken, chorizo scraped from the freezer and half a bag of pre cooked prawns and it was very nice.

We didn't get round to going to the local town this morning which is good from a NSD point of view but not great from a challenging food situation. Roasted toms and courgettes from the garden for lunch with pasta, and then a quick trip to the co-op got us a RTC pre cooked chicken for £2 which has made a huge portion of curry which we had with spicy potatoes and lentil dhal. In the bad old days we would have just got a takeaway.

Greenbee - have a good trip!

onion, two lettuce hearts and cucumber were chopped finely and sweated in a little oil till soft. Stirred in a spoonful of flour (probably didn't need it), added a bay leaf and veg stock and boiled for 15 minutes. Stirred in chopped mint, fished out bay leaf, blended with hand blender. Cooled. Haven't tried it, but it made the house smell nice!

Carrots, onions and celery will be finely chopped and sweated down to make a base for risotto, pasta sauce etc.

Having to log on to work as I can't find details of business class hand baggage allowance :( I think it is two bags plus handbag, but need to make sure as I don't like putting stuff in the hold on the way out, but really don't care on the way home! It all fits so far (only 4 pairs of shoes though...) although I haven't worked out what I'm wearing to travel in and need to pack the stuff for the way home. And my swimming stuff...

    Better check my list again...

Surfaced for a breath and a walk at about five this afternoon. Have managed to achieve a lot and there is even more to be done. HM pizza here as well; and since you reminded me I should get some of this stone things as well.

Will not do any more work today so that I can continue tomorrow early. Do you know what? I am thinking I really love what I do. So why does it take me so long to start doing it?
