Having a nowty (grumpy and snarly for no real reason) day today and dh has got the brunt of it but he deserves it for being around and doing nowt all morning (which is his only time with the kids till next Wednesday). Pointed out that he could have done anything/been anywhere with them but he hasn't bothered:mad:

So now is up to me to make their day fabulous (again!) so am sure I'll think of something soon....................................................!

Someone from work wants me to go to Helsinki in October... Won't it be dark?

Yup! But not as bad as December :o

Its getting darker in the evenings here BTW - just a month ago I had DS1 out in the garden at midnight proving to him he could read a paper out there.

I've actually got soup on the go today - pah!

Here too... It happens in august, and despite what everyone says, it definitely used to rain in the summer holidays when I was little!

Lots of mung beans and aduki beans cooked and in the freezer. Just have to decide what to eat. I don't fancy salad :(

OH is I'll so not coming over today :( so I need to cancel the restaurant booking for tonight. Looks like I won't see him till next Thursday now. His DS1 did OK in his exams but was disappointed so we're keeping our fingers crossed it's the shock he needs to get his act together.

So when's a good time to go and I'll tell them I'll go then... I have quite a bit of leverage on this one :D

Sunrise, sunset and length of day for Helsinki from timeanddate.com:

    1 Oct 2011 07:25 18:54 11h 29m 28s
    ...
    31 Oct 2011 07:40 16:28 8h 48m 05s
So earlier rather than later - daylight shortens by 3 hours over October!

This is on the shortest day:

    22 Dec 2011 09:24 15:13 5h 48m 56s
A further 3 hours shorter!:) and the sun is only 6.5deg!

    And at the moment:

    25 Aug 2011 05:57 20:47 14h 49m 47s

So no sleep for the wicked!

    And cold!

DS2 is as happy as can be :D:D he worked so hard and has done brilliantly. He is Year 10 so has completed 2 GCSEs (A* in resistant materials and business) and has done loads of other modules in maths (x2) English Lit, 3 pure sciences, RE, History and has got mainly A*s, a few As and 2 Bs. This is the child who doesn't want to go to Uni.

Excellent work! Well done Really is good to get a firm standing in year ten, takes the pressure off a bit in year 11

Sorry if I sound a bit off but when I read this it made me think of my friends son who always insisted he didnt want to go to uni. Did brilliantly in exams and everybody convinced him it was the right thing to do. He was miserable. Packed it in after 6 months much to the disgust (yes really) of his parents. He is now running his very own successful company that he built from scratch and employing other people.
Uni is not the be all and end all of doing well. For me university education should be about expanding the mind not necessarily the route to a job and I often feel dismayed that people without a degree are seen as "not as intelligent" when in fact they may be much more intelligent than a large percentage of those who did go to Uni.

    Sorry rant over.

  • Well done to Dustykitten's ds2, to Greenbee's oh's ds1 and not forgetting Kittikins .

Back into school tomorrow for a sixth-form admissions interview starting back a week on Wednesday if she is successful - phew, wot a palava :rotfl:.

Oopps!! DS1 is back from school a little upset at the kids laughing at him. Still this is the reason to be in a school for a year is to learn that not all kids love learning, want to apply themselves and are proud of what they can achieve.

I'm treading the middle line between him being my little upset boy and wanting hi to grow into his more mature self.

    Good afternoon

Well its def make do and mend here today :) As I said earlier in the week DH decided the hall stairs and landing needs re decorating, so he has used up the gloss we had here, (need to buy more) but until we can afford it he has started painting the walls, he went rummaging through the shed and found 1/4 of a tin of the paint we used for the living/dining room, and some white, he mixed the 2 together and got a lovely beige colour to paint the bottom of the hallway, once thats finished he is going to add more white for a lighter colour for the top :)

We also found out the dog we wanted from the rescue place is no longer available, her foster carer wants to keep her :(
