  • Oopps!! DS1 is back from school a little upset at the kids laughing at him. Still this is the reason to be in a school for a year is to learn that not all kids love learning, want to apply themselves and are proud of what they can achieve.

I'm treading the middle line between him being my little upset boy and wanting hi to grow into his more mature self.

    Parenting sucks on your own

    MG

Why did they laugh at him?

nothing so mean as kids sometimes.

Unexpected big spend today - went looking at guinea pigs and their equipment as dd has asked for one "instead of a party and lots of presents". Went to our local small pet shop and she fell hook line and sinker for a fluffy white and caramel hairy thing she has already named Truffle. He is 9 weeks old and is really calm and she has already had her first hold and he sat as still as anything and as she said "my heart melted mum" - god help us when she meets the first teen boy of her dreams!

So Truffle and all his acoutrements are in the pet shop with 'sold' on them till the weekend before her birthday - and my purse is slightly lighter than it was and I am the owner of a zillion mummy points:)

Ladies, I know that some of you may already have come across this diary but if not I highly recommend it as it is a fabulous piece of literary writing. More than that Hovel Lady is currently going through a bit of a difficult time and a metamorphosis so to speak. I know that she would love a bit of support from this wonderful group of people who never judge and can help see her through. She has lots of support right now but I really would love to surround her with the matrix. Please read the first few pages before jumping to the end, she will draw you in and engage you I guarantee. (the last 20 or so pages are the beginning of her dealing with lots of things).

I've been reading but not posting as I didn't feel qualified to add to the discussion. 'Hovel in the Hills' I read when it first came out and my copy has disappeared in the intervening years - not surprising as I have moved 5 times since then ;) I've just replaced my copy via A**zon and have reread it - a slim volume but enjoyable. I will scoot across and see what the latest is. It does sound complicated :( I have posted to say I have re-bought Hovel in the Hills but I see I should be more supportive - thanks for the nudge.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

Sorry if I sound a bit off but when I read this it made me think of my friends son who always insisted he didnt want to go to uni. Did brilliantly in exams and everybody convinced him it was the right thing to do. He was miserable. Packed it in after 6 months much to the disgust (yes really) of his parents. He is now running his very own successful company that he built from scratch and employing other people.
Uni is not the be all and end all of doing well. For me university education should be about expanding the mind not necessarily the route to a job and I often feel dismayed that people without a degree are seen as "not as intelligent" when in fact they may be much more intelligent than a large percentage of those who did go to Uni.

    Sorry rant over.

Thanks for posting this. I am sure DS2 will go far, he has a good work ethic, is likeable, great with people and willing to listen to others :D He wants to be a property developer at the moment.

Thrifty well done to your DD

I've achieved quite a lot today, not everything I wanted to but a chunk of it. It is dusk here already today so I need to get the last few bits of washing in, tidy up from dinner and a pile of ironing awaiting my attention.

That is a great thing to do, they make lovely pets and can be very friendly. A girl I tutored had hers "trained" to follow her upstairs at bed time!

ermmm not wishing to be a preachy pain in the backside but, Guinea pigs are VERY social animals and in the wild live in herds. It is much better to get a same sex pair who are already together.Does Truffle have a friend he lives with at the shop at the moment? For more information have a look at this forum.

I know that this will make me sound old but what the heck. It seems to me when I look back that everybody I still know from school days knew exactly what they wanted to be/do but were often guided in different directions or changed their ambitions to fit in with the crowd. I KNEW that I wanted to work in the travel industry and meet lots of lovely people and talk to them. My friend KNEW she wanted to be a Mum and my other friend wanted to build houses. Ok so we didnt know that we could do jobs like that. Now in our 40s we are all returning to what we wanted to do. If your son wants to be a property developer I say encourage him. He can look at courses to help him to do that. He would need to know about lots of things such as property maintenance, building etc. Good luck to him.

Ladies, thank you for heading over the fence to see Hovel Ladies. She is probably going to need lots of us with her in spirit tomorrow so can we send a circle of love out. Will let you know what time as and when I know anymore for those that are happy to help but cant jump the fence. Thanks you are all fabulous.

Thanks we were aware of this but Truffles brother was sold yesterday so he has been alone since then, we would have bought both if it was possible as we are getting a cage big enough :( But also aware that 2 boys suddenly put together are not necessarily going to get on, and we don't want babies either. Not really sure we could do much more with the situation tbh. Thanks for the linky though will add it to favourites and keep an eye on his behaviour once he gets here as we've read up a bit on them.

ETA will read forums and stuff on pairing males and see what they say as well as they seem more positive about the idea but I am a bit unsure atm tbh
