have you got some flour so you can do sweetcorn fritters?

Erm, will gluten free flour work? I don't have any of that gum stuff that begins with x to bind it :(

    I was working too.

Yesterday's challenge - roll your sleeves up:

Finally one that doesn't seem blasted at me.

Today your challenge is to take 15 minutes to

    de-clutter
    clean
    stack
    assess

    the contents of your fridge.

MG tells me you guys will usually have those teeny fridges in your kitchen - not the Double-doored behemoths that are so usual here, so I'm hoping that this only takes you one 15 minute slot.

Now have a look at what's left - what does that say about you and your family's eating habits? Any improvements you want to make to help you de-clutter anything else?

Cleaning up your environment - inside and out.

  • Hi Ladies ( and a few men)

I am after a few ideas for a picnic - this is not just any picnic this is [STRIKE]an M & S picnic[/STRIKE] a posh picnic.

DH has brought us tickets to Newmarket Nights which is basically horse racing followed by a singer/band/group so we are seeing Peter Andre :j:T

We are not going for the racing as we don't agree with it so we only need a small evening picnic but what do you take?

Obviously we cannot take a cool box :rotfl:so we will need to take a wicker basket which luckily we have but obviously they are quite small.

We are taking Shloer to drink as I am driving and DH does not drink.

I am trying to think of posher picnic food than sausage rolls etc but then I am concerned as I have a lovely yellow satin dress to wear and don't want to spill anything on it - to be honest I told DH I would rather not eat!!!!

Oh yeah - I am veggie but DH is not although he will eat most things so any ideas welcome.

(Won't be back until tonight as have to go to work in a mo)

    Thanks

Not sure how long you have to prepare EE, but here are a few ideas:

Dips and crudit!s (hummus, baba ganoush, guacamole if you can find a ripe avocado!)
Smoked salmon sandwiches (use smoked salmon trimmings - you can freeze the rest for a special occasion breakfast with scrambled egg) with nice bread, butter, black pepper and some lemon to squeeze over them
Mini quiches (individual size if you have plates, bite size if you don't)
Green salad (and dressing or Mayo if you like...OH and I are strange, we like our salad naked!)
    Cherry tomatoes
    Potato salad
For pudding - berries, fruit salad, fruit jellies or fruit in meringue nests. And cream, obviously!

For non-posh picnics my brother always gets huge admiration for what he puts in one of those backpacks:

    Hummus and crudit!s
    Cherry toms
    Washed lettuce
    Rolls or baguette or ciabatta
Big box of cold sausages (tbh if we haven't gone far they may still be warm as he wraps them in foil)
    Mustard and chutney
    Home made brownies and fruit

Very simple, but more exciting than a shop bought cheese sandwich and it can all be thrown together in the time it takes the sausages to cook!

    Morning all

Today I'm having a snagging day and trying to clear up all those little odds and ends of jobs which need doing.

DS2 is collected GCSE results to day (I'll let you know how it goes late morning) and a friend is popping in later.

Need to coerce DS3 into doing his homework (may enlist DS1 to help with this).

Hoping to find a little time to sort a bit more of my decreasing pile on the family room floor.

Fingers crossed for the results DK.

OH's DS1 gets his too... We are not expecting great things. I'm not sure whether to hope for a pleasant surprise (in which case he may never feel the need to put the effort in) or hope that it provides just enough for him to go on to college but also the shock he needs to pull his finger out...

OH's birthday on Sunday, so we're going out tonight. I hope he won't be too miserable...
  • Love the picnic suggestions Greenbee, dh would especially love the sausages with pickle.

DD is another one collecting her GCSE results in about an hour. She has two of her A level choices but keeps changing her mind on the other two - I predict an angsty afternoon before the final decision is made.

I had a snag day yesterday dustykitten, all sorts of little odd jobs were done - feels good when they are not cluttering up the place.

Need to tackle ds's room today, I may be gone a while. Also the ironing still hasn't been done from earlier on in the week and I need to sort ot the cupboard which is going to house my office / craft supplies.

Have a good day folks, Thriftyxxx
