Does he know there's a castle/museum on the agenda? Maybe he thinks it'll be like the episode of fr ted where they go on holiday, and there's literally two things to do:

Dougal: Will we go over to that fence now?
Ted: No, we might just blow up with excitement. Let's save something for next week

Have just read all your posts.
You said that you are disabled, could it be this reason he doesn't want to go for longer?
I have M.S & sometimes I don't think we realise how hard it is for our hubby's.

I don't think hubby would want to go camping with me, it would be very hard work for him.
