I have to say this thread is rather frustrating!

There are two things I don't understand.
    1. Why is her OH so insistant that there is nowhere else to visit in that area? Everywhere has lots of places to visit unless you're on a tiny island like Osea Island for example.

    2. Why didn't OP look for other places to visit to show her OH that there are indeed other places to go?

If she'd posted here the area that they're staying in, I'm sure there would have been lots of suggestions and people who know an area often know where the hidden gems are that aren't well publicised.

Oh well, lets hope their row doesn't spoil the holiday for their son.
  • Well, it looks as if it is going to be a beautiful day. They should be on their way now, so let's hope all goes well and they find loads to do, so they can get to stay away a few extra nights. :)

I personally don't think 175 miles IS a long way to go for three days. We've gone that far and back on the same day on numerous occasions.

It seems to me, as another poster had said, that she had 'two weeks of sight-seeing and fun' in her head and he had 'three days doing two specific things and then go home and chill out' in his and they have not communicated properly. Assumptions have been made and never clarified.

Let's hope they have a good time and learn from the experience.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Can you get a train back with your little one and have 2 or 3 extra days?

Maybe 2 weeks is a bit much but I don't see why he doesn't want an extra couple of days. Doesn't mean you and the little one can't though.
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D

Big issue with communication here or what ? To be honest, the OP and her husband sound like 2 children, neither will back down. If the OP is to enjoy her time away i think she should go with the flow as her husband isn't going to budge on what he wants. Not fair, i know, but until they can discuss things like adults, it's never going to be good is it ? I don't think 175 miles is too far either to travel, i've travelled further and back in a day too. Maybe the OPs husband just wants to relax at home for a while ?

I dont really understand why the OP couldnt just have thought of some other things to do for the other days if she was that desperate to stay away!!!!!!???? If i had suggested to my OH "lets do something" he would expect me to come up with the ideas generally lol...and i am a bit like a man in that sense, ie, i HATE to go away, then spend the whole time just doing nothing. Feels lazy and boring especially for my little boy (tho he would be happy to never leave the house & playstation LOL)
So i always have to plan something for each and every day we are away! We can swap and change days etc depending on weather etc but i like to have a PLAN! Gosh, i am ANAL!!!!!!!

This is a tricky one though. If he's out all day every day then just being at home and chilling out is exactly what he wants. If you're stuck at home day in day out then getting out is what you want. Maybe you both need to sit down and think about where the other is coming from.

I have this with my DH - he often works from home and when I get back he's like a puppy desperate for a walk whereas I've been out all day and all I want is to relax in front of the telly and maybe catch up on a bit of housework. We're both being perfectly reasonable in what we want so it's then about compromise...

Ha, i must be a weirdo then... cos i work every day of the week and agree with your about wanting to do nothing when i get home each evening etc. BUT when i have hols, the LAST thing i wanna do is nothing! I wanna get out and do fun stuff and find new things etc etc lol. I must be an odd bod! :A

Thing is, if he's that desperate to sit at home and do nothing, why has he booked up next week to go away biking with his brother? OP said he's going for 5 days.

I do think it's a little unfair that he wants to spend more time with hs brother on his annual leave, than with his partner and son.
