Yes that is what I've been told - that the solicitor will ring the estate agent to say when they can release the keys once all the funds have transferred.

Yes, that is what has happened for me today!

and yes i'm dying to leave early - my mum has just rang me and told me they are in my new house!!

Congratulations Lazer! brilliant news after 5 long months...there is hope for us all!!

SF- still not had surveyor book app, so don't know what is going on. Think you may be right....another delay tactic- how can some people be so devious?
Sol recommending we just sit it out, but close to breaking point now!

What date are you looking at exchange/completion. Good luck with both, this has been a long time coming for you!
  • Sorry to hear that they seem to be dragging their feet - if they have a problem with dates you would think that it would make more sense to talk things through with you rather than leaving you in the dark.

As for when we exchange/complete ... under 48 hours now!!! (Yes I'm excited!!:rotfl:) We transferred a large sum of money into our solicitors account today so that it is hopefully there for him for Wednesday. I'm trying to sort out the electrician to sort out a couple of Code 1's.

Not quite sure exactly what we are going to do when we get the keys ... but go there and clean a few bits, read the meters, let the locksmith in to deal with a dodgy lock. And then wait for the children to finish school so we can take down the For Sale sign together and maybe have a takeaway in the house. Gas man is organised for the following day. And take a screw driver to find out what is lurking behind the large boxed in area in the kitchen (not sure I want to know:eek:).

In the meantime I'm writing lists!!!

Has everyones took 5 months to go through? Mine was accepted mid November so I thought we may be in mid Feb, but haven't heard a bean from the solicitors since paying them for the searches which the cheque cleared on the 6th, so 3 weeks on Friday. Also i've got a list of questions from the homebuyers report, its an estate sale so i'll need to ask the relatives through my solicitor. Are these questions usually included as part of their fee that there charging?
    :T:T :beer: :beer::beer::beer: to the lil one :) :beer::beer::beer:
  • Mine was also a probate sale except the beneficiaries were charities - so effectively there wasn't anyone to ask. However we did get the solicitor to ask the other set of solicitors various questions - though they weren't very good at answering them. Actually the estate agent was better at finding out the answers in some cases. As far as I'm aware that was all included in his fees.

You could ring the solicitors and ask what is happening and keep him informed about how the survey and mortgage application are going. We met our solicitors a fairly short time after the searches occurred, so that he could talk through those with us.

22 weeks and counting! Not all as bad as that though. I agree with above comment, I would think it's time for an update from your solicitor and EA.
Yes questions like that are part of the parcel.
  • Waiting impatiently at home now... I thought the call would come through whilst I was at work. Apparently anytime in the next half hour to 2 hours!!!

    fingers and toes crossed
  • The phone call came about 12:30 pm and we hot footed it over to the estate agent and then spent the afternoon there getting the locks changed, doing a bit of cleaning and meeting the neighbours who have turned out to be nice (I know - not long to base it on), with one of them showing us all round their house and telling us what alterations he has done.

Took us a long time to work out how to turn on the water - and we forgot to pack a kettle (though remembered to take the tea bags and cups!!!) so the cuppa from the neighbour was very welcome. (It was on the list to take but forgot to read the list just before setting off to pick up the keys in my excitement. Back at our current main home now - having turned off the water and electricity again - still trying to get an electrician to come and fix the immediate problems so don't want to leave it on with us not there until those jobs are done. Gas man comes tomorrow - so we will have heat. Locks have been changed today.

Suddenly we are looking at the house and trying to work out what immediate jobs need doing. Lots of cleaning to start with.
