  • It appears my wife and I are the latest people to fall foul of this scam, with Vodafone being no help at all.

We discovered yesterday evening that my wife's phone has been charged £18 (4 x £4.50) for a 'service' that we have never heard of let alone signed up for. After speaking twice to Vodafone, they refused to give us a refund and simply brushed us off. I think they need to take responsibility for this as they have allowed these fraudster to illegally take money from us for an unsolicited service. Having been with Vodafone for over 12 years, I found their attitude disgraceful. Fraud is a very serious matter and should be taken seriously by all companies. I explained this to the representative but he ignored me.

They recommended me to text STOP to a number and guaranteed 100% that this would stop it. We have done this. I have also e-mailed KKO and Cell fish but have as yet had no response. If I don't have one tomorrow, I will call them. I do not trust them at all!

I also asked Vodafone to block this service, but they said they couldn't. Again I find that hard to believe. If another payment comes out, I will be taking matters further with Vodafone and KKO. I made this clear to Vodafone, and now that they know we haven't given permission for these payments, they cannot simply brush it under the carpet.

This scam appears to have been going on for long enough and I cannot believe the providers are ignoring it. They're obviously taking a cut from this!

Sadly it seems I am another victim. Having been in Oz for 3 months with a little used phone and certainly not from a KK company I arrive home and note my bills have unauthorised payments being deducted. Many phone calls later to vodaphone and March upon us, it is still happening.
Vodaphone customer services have wasted many hours of my time to eventually tell me they will get a manager to call me back. It never materialises and yet they still manage to support these fraudsters in allowing them to take money from innocent people.
I too lee, whom I understand you act for vodaphone would like to give you the opportunity to put right the despicable not care less attitude that is taken when debiting customers accounts. If my bank debits an incorrect amount it is refunded without delay and many apologies.
    This is not acceptable.

  • Another one scammed.... GGGgggggrrrrrr! Well the wife's phone...
Never heard of KKO, she had a couple of texts but didn't reply for obvious reasons! I spotted it on the bill but it goes back to Feb, so £50...

I've just hit the roof with O2, who basically tried fobbing me off!
However I've gone down the following route.
I legally stated to them; firstly we have no knowledge of KKO mobile, we have categorically not subscribed, agreed in any way shape or form to any contract between me and said company... O2 have facilitated and are potentially technically implicated or are tantamount to fraudulent activity, that allowed a third party to defraud me of monies without explicit agreement or consent in any form.

O2 have direct access my account, and I entrusted them to ensure a duty of care to me as a customer; given they are able to effectively withdraw funds at will this is not an unreasonable assumption... This sophisticated fraud is being perpetrated under their umbrella, and they I'm sure have enough cases to be aware that this is taking place, yet did nothing.
They failed to prevent fraudulent activity and made it possible for fraudsters to acquire direct access to my finances through their system with no redress. This could have been several thousands of pounds!

I've immediately stopped all debits & told them to withdraw and remove all bank account information from their database. In effect no-one can trust them not to prevent fraud on your account via the use of electronic criminal activity & virus embedded apps that effectively utilise O2's billing system to extract monies directly from customer accounts.

Like I said I expect a duty of care given they hold my financial information, and they have completely failed to protect their customer and I have no confidence in their system.

I will be getting the money back, no matter how far I have to pursue it or how long it takes, simply on principle, but I'll never give any company access to my account that allows 3rd parties uncontrolled access to defraud it again that's for sure.

The fact this has been going on for so long is breathtaking... I've logged a complain with the wet tissue that is PhonepayPlus, but in my eyes this is just a formality, I expect them to do nothing and retrieve no money at all.

I'll report back when I get some info...

    Dazza

  • Just spotted on my wives O2 account the very same thing. As with everyone else, so far fobbed off. I am amazed this has been allowed to go on for so long.

I guess the industry doesn't give a toss about their customers?

Im a Vodafone Business customer for 6+ years, with 2 phones. Just discovered £54 of these fraudulent £4.50 charges so far from KKOMobile.co.uk racked up in 3months not noticed till now.

I have texted STOP to the number, as that is the right thing to do to prevent any more (thanks for info in this forum). i noticed my phone had 3 prior warnings to text STOP from same number but I ignore all unsolicited texts as a general rule to avoid other such scams, hence not acted upon them previously.

I will be contacting Vodafone customer services later this evening to request a full refund for the charges made since March 20th.

Clearly this is a case of conflict of interest for the telephone providers, with a large amount of income being made in shared revenue from this company who trick or scam people into sign up to a bogus, unwanted and unused service.

In my own case, I will take to the CEO writing option if necessary to get my refund.

But if it has to go that far I will also be providing all the material I gather to whoever wishes to pursue this further in protection of consumer interests.. whether thats Martin Lewis TV shows, or the likes of BBC watchdog. A valid question for them to ask is how much income is being made by Vodafone et al from KKO Mobile which is making its living out of causing misery and expense for its customers. There really is no valid business case for a company charging £4.50 a week for some kind of download of icons or whatever it is. So surely they should have been blacklisted by all uk providers a long time ago in the interests of their customers.

I will not be contacting the company KKO Mobile at all as I am quite aware of what kind of company they must be already, so will not receive satisfaction there.

I will be recording all conversations held with Vodafone Customer Services, and will tell them so, just as they feel obliged to record conversations held with me for "training purposes".

The money is one thing, but the amount of time and grief being created for something so pointless (over quite a number of years) is the real issue at stake here. The telephone providers clearly need reminding who their genuine customers are.

Will report back on what happens..

I know there is a Vodafone rep on this forum (Lee - Vodafone company representative). One question i have for him is what is it about KKO Mobiles "so-called" service that any customer could genuinely want at that cost? So why allow them in revenue share agreement at all.?

    Regards

    David
