Sounds like you got a good deal.
For upgrades, check here (originally posted by photome, I think):
http://www.frontdesktip.com/fhotel.php?id=1
It has details of what people tried, what worked, what didn't...nothing is guaranteed, but worth trying...I would definately say to the clerk that you're just back from Afghanistan and this is the first trip with your wife since getting back...it's true - plenty of folks make things up in the hopes of getting an upgrade.
Thanks, I think I got a good deal, but I'm a little nervous having booked through a third party website as opposed to direct with PH. Also I've heard this can affect your chances of an upgrade. The $20 trick sounds good though.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
Well in the end we have decided to stay at Planet Hollywood, though it was hard to decide between Harrahs and PH, got a good deal off www.cityandshow.co.uk, it was $500 cheaper than the deal on PH's own webite. Any suggestions on how to get a upgraded room, slip the check in clerk a 20 or something?
Decided against the Luxor after what others have said about it, though it was the cheapest deal I could get.
IMO I think you have made the right choice for the hotel.....never heard of cityandshow will have to check them out as well as all the others now.
Was it really that much difference in price..I just looked (are u there for 9 nights).I got £670 on cityandshow all in about $1300 and from the PH website via an offer link I got $1101 plus taxbringing it to just over $1200.
I see ferf gave you the link to the front desk tipping site. It has worked for me at PH (alladdin) I said it was our anniversary at the same time holdingout a $20 bill. I usually just ask now tho for a high floor (resort room if poss) with a view of the fountains(if you want one) at the same time making sure they can see my $20. I must say though your length of stay may be against you (long) but you can only try...good luck0 -
been missing out on all this great chat over the weekend, but me and the OH took off upto The Lakes for a getaway.
welcome back baz and i hope you have had a brill time      !!!!
hope your new thread takes off Baz  , but this thread had a diificult time keeping fresh with just post on deals only( which was i had first intended ). which is why i edited the title and Post #1 back in about march /april time.
with the thread now approaching it,s 1000 post , i guess it can be a little daunting for the MSE member first approaching it, and finding all the relevent information for their needs.
all i would say is i don,t mind repeating things or pointing you in the general area of the thread which the info is at. in fact i enjoy it very muchand i'm sure all the other regular posters and people with info do too. i love talking about Vegas :happyhear :happyhear

congrats on your booking :T :T i,m sure you will enjoy Planet Hollywood ( i,m looking forward to seeing it myself for the 1st time in Dec). like the others have said $20 + a polite british accent+ you have been doing service in Afganistan slipped into the conversation with the check in staff, should see you get something. i would say a good strip view ( preferably with view of the Bellagio Fountains!!) would be a good result. as Photome says your length of stay may deny you a room upgrade , but give it a try!!!.
if you have not pre booked your seats already with Virgin. try to get front and left ( as you are sitting on the aircraft.) they should always disembark from the front as they get Upper Class and Prem Economy off first. this will ensure you are Last on first off and nearer the front of the Queue for border control.
Make sure you have your Visa waiver filled in before you get off the plane and you use one of the automated departure machines when coming home and make sure the green bit they will leave in your passport is handed in!!!
. i only mention this now as we recently found the damm things still in our passport from last vist :embarasse . and i have had to post them to Kentucky with proof we left , and i have no way of checking that it has all been processed until we return to USA in late Sept. i,m half expecting to pulled out for interview in Philly :undecided . thanks Virgin for not collecting the damm things like you should have ,!!
CAESARS PALACE offer from $140.
from Las vegas Message Boards. for stays until sept.
https://www.harrahs.com/AvailabilityCalendar.do?source=AVA00000017795&propCode=CLV&showHotDeal=Y
Caesers is anthor one the never seems to fall below this price , so the fact there are lots of dates available is good .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
P.S would love to hear all about your trip and see some photos Bazlovejoy :cheesy: .
i can help if you don,t know how to make photos appear within your postsBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

The deal I got on cityandshow was a deluxe for £600 which I guestimated at around $1200. The best rate I could find on PH's website for a deluxe was around $1800, therefore a big difference I thought, out of intrest how did you get the deal of $1200 bucks on there site, what deal did you use? I would have prefered to book with them direct, but I don't suppose it matters, just more intrigued how you got a quote for $600 less than I did on the site.
I sort of figured that the length of our stay would inhibit the chance of a upgrade, but nothing ventured nothing gained, maybe we'll be able to get an upgrade for the last day or two even. Really I don't mind too much, I'm just so excited about being home and I cannot wait to get to Vegas for the first time, roll on friday!!!!!!{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
Just been looking at Mystere tickets online and it lists thursday and friday as dark days, and the 11th of July as an additional dark day. What is a dark day, is it simply a day they don't do a performance?:o{Signature removed by Forum Team}0

Last question for a while I promise. I've heard coupons being mentioned on this thread of various types, is there anywhere good to get any? I had a look at the ones on lasvegasadvisor but they cost $37 and as I'm off in 2 days they aren't really practical. Any ideas folks? MTIA.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0

Pick up all the freebie magazines you see scattered about - some good ones in there...signing up for players clubs will usually get you a book of coupons/funbooks...there's another one called the American Casino Guide which you can pick up at a bookstore in Vegas if it interests you - check here for a list of coupons to see if you think it would be worth it -
http://www.americancasinoguide.com/Store/Coupons-2007.shtml
I think the list price is about $17...and I think that they sell them at some casino gift shops - either Station or Coast Casinos but can't now remember which...a lot of the coupons are for off-strip things, though - so if you aren't renting a car, the potential value will drop off quite a lot.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
