So you would recommend Harrahs over NYNY or the Luxor or the Monte Carlo for the first timer?
Given the City Center construction and location I would - but I have not stayed at NYNY, Luxor, PH or MC before so I can't speak to the specifics of the rooms at those...I like all the casinos, for what that's worth.
If you want an idea of the construction near MC - go here:
http://www.citycenter.com/default.aspx
click on enter.
click on construction cam.
view from MC.
and if you look here:

the green all around MC is the City Center project.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Ive just got back from Vegas, anyone going will have an amazing time. Ive set up a new thread for those people who want to ask questions or get advice about Vegas. That'll leave this thread solely for travel and hotels.

Where did you find this out mate?
I was in Vegas in April and the Monte carlo looked very lost in the middle of all the tower cranes.
As for recommendations I cant comment on Luxor or NY NY except to say like others have said the Luxor appears a bit dated now unless you stay in a tower room but it is also a fair way from the centre strip.
NY NY always gets good reviews, but not stayed there
I have stayed at PH and I would recommend it..never had a problem, and if you could get a comp upgrade to a resort view room you would love it.
They are bigger rooms with two windows and when i got my upgrade I was on the 18th floor (I think) and I could lay in bed and watch the bellagio fountains.0 -

Glad you had a great time...but is there a need for a new thread as trets thread now covers almost anything you want to know about vegas or contains links to all the other threads on the internet0 -
Well if know one posts in it, it'll get lost within the forum in a few days. I dont think theres any harm in that.

Baz - how about a quick summary of your trip so we can live vicariously?
you could even post it over here -

I love reading them - you learn so much from them and they are normally just fun to get into the Vegas mood (as if it takes much).
welcome back and glad you had a good time!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Well in the end we have decided to stay at Planet Hollywood, though it was hard to decide between Harrahs and PH, got a good deal off www.cityandshow.co.uk, it was $500 cheaper than the deal on PH's own webite. Any suggestions on how to get a upgraded room, slip the check in clerk a 20 or something?
Decided against the Luxor after what others have said about it, though it was the cheapest deal I could get.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -

Sounds like you got a good deal.
For upgrades, check here (originally posted by photome, I think):

It has details of what people tried, what worked, what didn't...nothing is guaranteed, but worth trying...I would definately say to the clerk that you're just back from Afghanistan and this is the first trip with your wife since getting back...it's true - plenty of folks make things up in the hopes of getting an upgrade.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
