Well, I'm back from Devon early because it was so wet. I wish I'd gone to LV instead, especially with My travel fares.
I've been reading the M and M info with great interest. If I want particular days next April should I be thinking of booking and M and m with Virgin or should I wait for upcoming deals later?0 -
2nd that ferf. as i,m sure everyone else here does. i hope she is home with her family very soon
great news Wdyw hope your have a really great time on your latest trip    what are your 7 choices then , let us know what swings the final 2.I've been reading the M and M info with great interest. how important is a Gatwick departure , are you happy with the miles and money fare ,and how's your attitude to risk in a late booking with say mytravel.I have always wanted to go to Las Vegas just for the spectacle etc. but I wondered if those with experience would recommend it for a lone female traveller? My friend won’t be able to take time off midweek so it might be a good time for me to visit.
If I do go I would like to do a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon, I will assume that those who have been will say that it is definitely worth doing, please correct me if this is not the case.
there are plenty of lone female gamblers over the slots . on the strip and in the hotels is a very safe atmos IMO i,m sure there are plenty of lone female conventioners who vist Vegas every week. if it,s a short stay i would splash out on your hotel and definatly stay on strip .is there any that have taken your eye??
the Grand Canyon helicopter is very worth it !!! there was a lady from UK on her own on our flight as her OH was in the casino . you wll certainly not be on your own on the flight. awe inspiring sums the trip up pretty well for meBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Hi Trets, Thanks for the quick response! I guess the helicopter is a must then......even though it is rather a frightening prospect.
I am only just starting my fact finding on the hotels etc and it all seems a bit daunting, not only all the different hotels, but all the different options within the hotels and the different deals/bargains available. I will have to delve a bit deeper and come back when I have some specifics to enquire about.
Just a query about the helicopter, did you have to make sure you had special insurance cover for that?
Thanks for everyones hard work on threads like this, I am sure a lot of people, like me, really appreciate it.0 -

Hannah...like Trets said, there are plenty of women who go to Vegas solo for whatever reason...so long as you use some common sense (which I am sure you will!) you should be fine. I met a lady once at a show (Love, I think it was). She was sat on one side of me and my husband on the other...we chatted a bit and she's a doctor, not married, and loves Vegas. One thing that she said she finds makes her feel safer is to wear a fake engagement and wedding ring...she said that it really does seem to act as man repellant and makes her feel safer as she's not approached as often (even by perfectly safe guys) which makes her feel more comfortable...not to say that you would want to do the same, but it always stuck in my mind.

And yes, stay on the Strip. There are areas downtown that would probably be OK, but a lot of people say that once you go out of the Freemont Street Experience area, it gets a bit dodgy. There are dodgy areas of the Strip as well...I would suggest you look at mid-strip or south strip hotels as those areas are so well travelled and so well lit, I've always felt that I could tape $100 bills all over my clothes and not get mugged.
Personally, if I were a female traveller alone in Vegas I would not stay north of Wynn and probably not north of Mirage/Harrah's, really.

Pretty much anywhere else would be fine for me...though...what sort of things are most important to you? That might help for us to help you narrow down your hotel choices. Would you want a nice pool? Fine or casual dining or both? What sort of price range would you be looking at? As you wont have a car, monorail access might be helpful and the stops are all on the east side of the strip...though sometimes it seems like you have to walk farther to get to the monorail station than to your destination.
I think that all of us here love helping people with trips to Vegas...so any questions at all, ask away...it keeps us off the streets.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

At the moment MGM Grand is looking favourite for first part of holiday with Signature for second half. Usual haunts of TI and Venetian priced themselves out of the running early on! Got suites and standard rooms booked at the MGM so on a money saving forum the standard room at ridiculously cheap rate is sure to win the day .....or will it?0 -
what prices are you seeing at MGM?Matched Lay Betting Profit £992

no just our travel insurance policy, i don,t know if any insurance is included in the price of trip or not. the companys that operate out of Mccarren are very professional with very high safety standards , our first planned trip got cancelled because of some minor glitch with the Helicopter , but they would not take any risks what so ever so re booked us for later in the day.
as has been posted before a flight out of McCarren is best way to go in most peoples opinion. cheaper tours are widely advertised around Vegas but are cheaper because you have to travel out to the Canyon yourself and fly from there. Budget on £200/$400 ish Per person for a trip. all the McCarren operators will pick you from your hotel
