Las Vegas 2007 bargain hunt + tips

hey stoneman. I did say this is what we do - just meant to be an example, not a hard and fast rule...it is a bit of a personal choice, really...I think when we're on holiday we're happy and if someone does good, we want to reward them...plus, with the current exchange rate, it's practically free to tip a bit more.
We also rent a car but for some trips (if I want to have a drink or two) we will taxi it and have found that the drivers are usually really grateful for a decent tip...so that makes us feel good...like we made their day a little bit better...so it's nice.
I do apologise if it came off as showing how much money we can splash around as that wasn't how it was intended.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
ok - to make up for my having neglected to consider the nature of the forum in that last post about tipping...
For those interested in saving some cash on meals - I don't think this has been mentioned before -
https://www.restaurant.com
You buy vouchers to be used at restaurants in and around Vegas. Many cost $10 for a voucher worth $25 off a meal of $35 or more.
BUT
Regularly they send out discount codes for 50% or 60% off the normal voucher price.
So you can end up with a voucher for $25 worth of food for $4-$5.
You can sign up on their website to get emails about the discounts or check the https://www.lasvegastalk.com deals forum as someone always posts the codes there.
The code good until 30th April is APRIL AND you get a free $10 gift certificate with each order.
We've used them several times and have always worked a treat. The vouchers are good for 1 year from the time you purchase them (you have to print them out).
There are a few restaurants on the Strip and tons off the strip.
Some someone mentioned the Star Trek exhibit and Quark's is the restaurant associated with it and is available on restaurant. com - food is good, but a bit overpriced...but if you're even a little bit of a Trekkie and you'll be hungry, the voucher makes it a good deal...'cause chatting to a Ferengi over lunch is just one of those experiences everyone should have.
You can buy these vouchers using PayPal or a credit card and plenty of people have said they have had no problem with putting in 00000 as the zip code (it won't allow a UK postcode).
Vouchers do sell out for some restaurants each month - so worth keeping an eye on those you are interested in.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
i,m hoping to also try the Most expensive Buffet in town next vist The Seafood Buffet at the Rio .
Hey Trets - have you seen that Tix4Tonight are now doing 2 for 1 at some restaurants? From what I've read here:
http://www.lvtalk.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=39794&highlight=tix4dinner
The Rio Seafood Buffet is one of the participating restaurants...so may be worth checking at a Tix4Tonight booth.

Quite chuffed that I can get 2 for 1 on the Star Trek, didn't think that would be included (I'm not a trekkie, but my mate is so gotta go there).
The tips on tipping are very helpful as I really didn't know what to give.0 -

Be sure to print out both of these coupons for Tix4Tonight:
http://www.lasvegas-nv.com/tix-4-tonight-coupon.htm - $1 off the service charge for each ticket plus a VIP line pass (can save a lot of time in the queue)..current version expires at end of June - but they normally put a new one up for the next 6 months straight away.
http://www.tix4tonight.com/coupon.htm - $2 off the service charge each ticket.
you can't use both coupons at the same time, but nice to have both with you to have the VIP pass option if the queue is obnoxious.
The Star Trek Experience is fun - it's really expensive if you pay full price, but at a discount, it's good fun.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

The way we did the Star Trek experience was to book the Nemesis package in the hotel. Something like £100 for two nights accomodation, two full tickets to the experience and some food at Quarks. Food was from a limited menu and had to be sent back, attractions were fine for what we paid, would have been really pe'ed off if we had paid full price. Shop had a few trekkie bargains and surprisingly there wasn't too bad a "smell" factor. Definitely give it a go if you get half price tickets (make sure you get ones that cover both main activities) and it also gives you an excuse to use the monorail down to the Hilton.
Since the last time we did the Nemesis the dates and prices seem to have been vastly reduced and less of a bargain :-(0
