I've pretty much decided that I'd like to go back to Vegas in Sept. I'm now looking at Glasgow-Vegas as this seems to be the best option for us. (We live in the North East but have family in Glasgow so no hotel/parking costs like going to Manchester). I can get deal from Virgin for £397 (staff rate) but getting to Gatwick seems difficult from Newcastle as the return dates & times don't fit. The only one on a Saturday leaves before we'd get in from Vegas....

United do the route from Glasgow with 1 connection and booking with them is approx. £635, and Continental with 1 connection at approx £535
Expedia have a package from Glasgow for hotel + flight using one of the above flights for approx £750 pp (used going out on 4th for the rough sums)

Can I really get this cheaper by booking seperately or have I missed out for this year?

I have leave booked now from 01/09 to 23/09 so a week anywhere in there would be good and I know Labor Day is on the 3rd. Any advice would be great.....

Have you considered staying in a airport hotel either before you go or when you come back? You can get them for next to nothing if you know the right sites.

Re Penn & Teller, if the seats are really important - I would book online at the Rio's box office. will be less fees than using vegasview.com who whack you with some fees and if you book with the box office directly you can choose your seats and have an email confirmation of what seats you have...we booked this way and you just have to take the confirmation with your credit card and an ID to the box office - can do it a few days before the show, even. Worked a treat. It is not a huge theatre, so I can't see that there are many 'bad' seats, but some people really prefer to be up close.

If you decide to wait and book when you are there, there is a 25% discount coupon for P&T here:

    http://www.harrahs.com/EventsDetail.do?locationCode=RLV&detailName=penn-and-teller-detail&eventTitle=Penn%20&%20Teller

You could go and book the P&T tickets at the box office a few days before the show with the coupon to try to get a bit better seats than on the day.

I wouldn't rule it out if I could get a decent price.

Question for the vegas veterans... had anyone ever had any trouble with the mexicans who hand out the stripper cards on the strip? I felt a bit intimated by them i have to admit, they were drinking whiskey from the bottle during the day and looked quite scruffy and smelt a bit.
Will they be around at christmas????

just ignore them or take the card if they persist and throw in the next bin ect. not making eye contact is a good way to avoid them , or be busy talking to your partner ect.unfortunate that people hassling you for money ect is in any big city, was approched twice last night in Birmingham city center for money.

there must be money in this phone sex thing or they people who who run the lines would not pay them to stand out there all day in the blazing heat.

i would do this if i were you as you can also use the day before check in's with Virgin and BMI. i found the Virgin one a big help as you just need to be at the gate about a hour before boarding so saves a few hours of hanging around at least.

i have used the Premier Travel Inn at Gatwick for a about £70 room + a weeks parking in low season.

have booked the Bewley hotel and parking for my trip in Dec cost about £113 with parking but is the only hotel i would consider in manchester airport by Trip advisor reports..and MSE recommendations

I LOVE Las Vegas, I go every year, (sept-oct this year).. I wrote a huuuuge post about it somewhere. I'll find it if anyone wants to see it, it has bits and bobs on there about fun things to do and free stuff etc. Corrrr.. just talking about it makes me reeeeeeally want a Margarita.. haha

This year I booked with no frills airline Globespan, I havent tried them before, but it really IS no frills. I think it was £210 after the taxes were added.

Thanks Trets, Gatwick is fine as price is under £400pp but I don't want to drive to Gatwick - it's like 6/7 hours so no parking costs to consider - might look again at jet2.com as although they had no flight back to Newcastle on the dates I was looking at, if I moved it mid week, it might work out fine.

As I'm commiting to Sept now, should I be panicked about trying to sort hotel right away or have I got plenty time?

Thanks for the advice! I was wondering about picking tickets up etc...but if you can get them from the box office a few days before the show, then that is perfect!! Do you think if I phone up and book that way, I will be able to use the coupn (as it has a code) or do they physically have to see it?!

    Cheers

Hi Eupho, looked at their site and I can't see a route to Las Vegas - am I missing something? :)
