Hi everyone!! I received some sound advice on this thread before so I'm hoping you can advise me again!!
1) I am going to Vegas in June. I have started to think about how I am going to bring my holiday money. A friend of mine metioned an American Express travellers cheque card. Do people think these are a good idea? I'm guessing the exchange rate may not be as good though? I intend to bring a bit of cash for things like taxis when we land.
2) My girlfriend and I would like to see a couple of shows before we go! I would like to see Penn and Teller, and I think she would like to see Menopause!!! Is it advisable to book beforehand. There is a site (vegas view I think) where you can book tickets and then pick them up from a machine when you're out there (a bit like if you prebook the cinema). I have read some people talk about getting them half price on the day, but do you get good seats etc...! We would probably be going to see at least one of these shows on a weekend night so I'm guessing they might be busy!!
Any help or advice would be much appreciated!
Cheers :beer:0 -

travellers cheques can be easily changed any cash out booth with your photo ID and most places will accept them as well. don't know about this cheque card ?? i guess it work likes one of thoose pre loaded post office cards . personally i would use a Nationwide visa debit , but if a high level of security is required by yourself in case of loss ect it might be a good route for you.
a mixture of hard cash , a non fee charging Credit card and some travellers cheques will probably cover all your bases. My girlfriend and I would like to see a couple of shows before we go! you probably not going to get front and center seats with a half price ticket. some show rooms have Maitre de seating so is a lottery as to what you get with any standard seat ticket ( or what you tip more likely)
the seats i got for say Mamma Mia for example were slighty to the side , but i was not unhappy with them for half price , nor the seats we got half price for Avenue Q or Rita Rudner which were fine even at full price .
i will never pre book again after what happened with our experiance with Hairspray at the Luxor   , which we went to see for my wifes birthday so i was prepared to pay full price for very good seats , which i was promised we would get by the agent.
to say my wife was very angry when we collected our tickets to find ROW XX ( no kidding !!) on them was a under statement. i would have probaly excepted it for a half price ticket as thats the chance you take .
a very harsh complaintby us followed by some begging phone calls by the agent to the managment later and we did get pretty much the best seats in the house ( show managers reserved seats no less !!) a few rows back from the stage dead center
i still was bored stiff by the show thoughas it was definatly a show for the girls !! but my wife enjoyed it a lot .
if it was me i would definatly wait espically if you are planning on a week night / less popular show as you never know what you could get half price. i don't recall seeing Penn and Teller available at half price , but if you get there and they are not on discount , you can still pay full price and hopefully barter some great seats.
i very much doubt either of the shows you mention will sell out so you don,t get a chance to see them while you are there.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

Thanks for the advice!! Sorry to be stupid...do you mean I could change the cheques at a cash booth in my Hotel/Casion (Luxor). Can I assume there is no charge for this?!
Yeah, the Amex travellers cheque card works by preloading it with your holiday money, then just using it like a debit card (it works in ATMs etc...)!!
Thanks for the tips about shows!!! I will try and hunt out some half price tickets whilst I'm there!!!0 -
yes when i used Travellers cheques i changed them at the cash desk no problems
i certainly don,t remember a charge when i cashed one in. just gave them $20 travellers cheque signed it and gave them my ID and got $20 back as i recall.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

sounds like you got a pretty good deal there !!! :T :T
you will love NY NY , try Gonzalez Y Gonzalez if you fancy mexican food, it's pretty cheap , great atmos and as good as any mexican meal i have had at 3 times the price. the huge Margaritas there in yard of ale style cups are also one of my favs :happyhear !!
Avoid Chin Chin for breakfast buffet !!! Awful Awful Awful _pale_ _pale_
you should never have to pay full price for a ride on the roller coaster either, make sure you get a 2 for 1 coupon from the people who hand them out , near Gallaghers or starbucks .
lets us know how your BMI flights are as well
have a great trip _party_  :wave:Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
my turn to ask a question on here
Does anyone know or can point me in direction of finding out wether Gatwick-Vegas routes will be updated to the same inflight entertainment system as the Heathrow-LA route has had for a while.
Heathrow route you can pick your movies and pause rewind etc whereas Gatwick route is on a loop system.
I am looking to book for next March and cant decide which route to take.
Price is just under £300 using 2000 miles plus cash0 -
thanks for all the tips.
i'll keep looking for more.
pleased with price ,it jumped 25 quid each in a couple of hours
good advice from someone on here was to keep checking prices early to get 'a feel' for things and then jump in quick if your happy
i'll let you know about flights.
