Thanks Ferf, I havent had a chance to sit down and read/plan my Las Vegas time yet, work and life is getting in the way so far (still havent had the all clear from the Dr to fly yet    .........but I am trying to ignore that (Ear trouble) I plan to go anyway :shhh: as apparently all that will happen is a perforated ear drum...great.)

Added to that, last night I stood on a piece of metal on my way home which decided to lodge its way through my Crocs and into my foot. ouch. Have just recieved a Tetanus jab and a course of antibiotics.....someone doesnt want me to go on this trip

Anyway, the point of my post was that I might be on here over the next few days with some more questions for you veterans.

I tell you, there will be a huge sigh of relief once I get on that plane and I am on my way

Well if you favour cheap footwear usually worn by toilet cleaners in dodgy NHS hospitals you must expect the inevitable accident.
Crocs are the ugliest shoes since those cornish pasty things much favoured by Liberal parliamentary candidates.

I've transited through Chicago before and the bags were transferred automatically. It wasn't to Vegas though, it was Vancouver.

Just came back from Vegas yesterday and had an amazing time and would defo go back again but I would stay in a hotel on the strip this time, Ended up purchasing our show tickets from Tix 4 tonight at the fashion mall as they worked out just under half price compared to the box office price.

I managed to bring a few things back as the prices were very good

    DKNY Watch - £58
Oakley Juliet sunglasses - £160 (around £250 in UK)
    Calvin Klein Suit - £115
    Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirts - £12.50 each

We flew direct to Vegas with My travel as i heard my travel also done stops at glasgow but we never and it took 11 hours 40 on the way their and 9 hours coming back which flew over

Thank you for your constructive comments.

You are obviously uneducated in the variety of shoes available within the brand of Crocs shoes. I did not specify that I was wearing a pair of Cayman/Beach Crocs, the clog type shoes that I assume you are referring to.

I was in fact wearing a pair of Nile sandals, a model not currently available in the UK and which differ to the Cayman/Beach models.

I can also correct you on your comment "......cheap footwear..." I do not know how much you consider to be an appropriate amount to spend on footwear, or even what you consider to be cheap but I can safely say that as far as I am concerned £30 is not cheap for a pair of summer shoes.

I can assure you that only thick soled work boots would have withstood the large toothpick shaped piece of metal that I stood on. Yes, it will have gone through soft soled shoes more easily but I would say that in the warm weather we had on Wednesday most people were in light shoes/sandals.

Personally I would say the issue should be how on earth did I not see said metal and also how did it manage to end up vertically entering my foot. These points I cannot answer.

I am sorry if this has gone off topic and will remove if requested to do so but I felt the need to reply, and believe me I have been very restrained in not responding to your "toilet cleaner" remarks.

We go to LA via Chicago in November (coming back from Las Vegas direct though, thankfully!). Should I be prepared for running through the terminals then?

We have 1h 40m between flights and the terminals are the farthest away possible. What's the train link like between terminals in Chicago?

Also, can anyone tell me if we have to collect baggage and check in again or do they transfer it onto the new plane? Thanks! :)

I am not really sure what the rules are for baggage transfer as both times I have been through I have had to collect my bags and re-check them. First time was BMI going onto a United flight (Star Alliance Partners) then the second time it was going from one AA flight to another.

It really depends how many flights come in at the same time as yours as to how busy security will be. I asked about it on Trip Advisor and was told not to worry as flights to Vegas are like buses so you will get there.

The skytrain is pretty good but its always packed

Saying that though, I have read alot of reports recently that it has got much better (last time I went through was 2 years ago) and the queues are much shorter so I am sure it will be fine. I am travelling at the end of October, so excited

If you are flying from the UK into the US you must clear Immigration & Customs at your first point of entry. For you this will be Chicago. Make sure you have filled all the forms out on the plane, with NO mistakes (they will send you to the back of the queue with a new form). You do have to collect your bags. This usually only involves dropping them off again in a 'roped off' area according to your destination & air carrier. They have plenty of staff telling you what to do. I do think 1 hr 40 is pushing it (but I don't want to worry you!) but doable. I recently flew to Orlando via Newark & clearing I&C took exactly 1 hour. That was without flight delays. Then you have to find your new gate. Also bear in mind some airlines 'close the gate' around 20 mins before the plane is due to take-off. They will not allow you to board after the gate is closed. It would pay to plan ahead your route I think.
I have been to Chicago O'Hare & I thought it was one of the best airports for service. It was very busy though. The connecting trains were frequent & fast. Just make sure you know which way you're going.
Who have you booked your travel with? If you contact them they may be able to place you on a later connection. I have done this before with little hassle & it was free too! For me it was peace of mind on an 8 hour flight over rushing around at the other end!
    Hope that helps a bit & I haven't scared you... :D

    Hannah:

Naturally I'm sorrry to hear of your accident and hope it doesn't affect your holiday.

But as you can see from the Croc website it seems to me you were wearing totally inappropriate footwear - the nile is clearly intended for summer beach wear.

the nile is open-toed to show off pretty little piggies at the pool or beach, this stylish, buoyant slide features a heel strap and wide, roomy orthotic foot bed. available in women’s sizes only.
I hope you don;t think I'm being rude but I just think people don;t pay more than enough attention to wearing the correct footwear - quite apart from having poor taste.

Thank you for your concern over my "accident" I did not read/take your previous post as not being concern. (This reads as sarcastic, it is not meant to be)

As to what is appropriate footwear for the occasion, that is personal taste (or lack of it in your opinion). Can I clarify that I was walking a short distance, less than 5 minutes back to my car from the office. I was walking on a well used pavement and not off road or anywhere that you would expect to find shards of metal.

What annoyed me about your original post was your association/insult of the type of people you perceive to wear a particular type of footwear. I do actually work within a hospital but I am not a toilet cleaner, I am a Post Doctoral Research Associate in cancer research. I therefore do not fit your stereotype description.

I guess we will have to disagree on the likes/dislikes of Crocs. If you notice I do not defend Crocs and insist that you approve, I merely do not like your stereotyping.

I am now looking forward to my trip next week and to visiting the Crocs shops in San Francisco/Las Vegas. I will hopefully be returning to the UK with a few more pairs ;)

Hi Slowen, glad you had a good time. Which shows did you get discount tickets for? and did you enjoy them?

I have tickets for CDS O and Ka but I have one night with no plans so would be interested re. the discount tickets from the booth.

    Thanks
