Age gaps in relationships...

I'm 21 and have been seeing someone who is 27 years older than me since I was 18 (and it's nothing to do with money - I have more disposable income than him).
If your personalities match, then the age doesn't really matter. Me and my partner have tons of things in common and always have something to talk about, we don't really notice the age difference at all.0 -
My dad was 31 when he met my mother who was 21 at the time.
They were ecstatically happy together until my mum died at the age of 57 in her sleep without warning.
My dad lived another 19 years after her death but never got over it.0 -
Just curious as to what others think about age gaps really, split with my ex 2 and a half years ago, he's had a couple of short term girlfriends and a couple of one night stands that I know of, none of which bother me.
But I am a bit bothered by this one now as she's 21 (he's 33), not that it's any of my business who he sees I know, I just feel a bit uneasy about it, I think it's because we have kids and she's not much older! Our eldest lad is 18 this year.
I've said I don't want the kids involved in any way, but I'd say that anyway until it was definitely long term, at least another 6 months to a year down the line she'll be a bit older! I just couldn't imagine it the other way round, me with a young lad....
no its none of your business your right. If he was with an older woman you wouldnt like that either. Does the ex ever agree with the choice their ex made.
There is nothing wrong with an age gap relationship. I am in one and i can honestly say its the best relationship ive ever had. Its also the longest relationship I have ever had. People dont just fall in love with people their own age and if they do it dosent always last.:footie:0 -
I met my DH when I was 18 he was 31.
We bought our house when I was 19, married when I was 22. We celebrated 12 years of marriage this year. We've been together for 16 years in total.
We have a beautiful DD after a battle due to MY health issues, I have often said that if we had been a similar age our relationship wouldn't have survived the trauma of fertility treatment.
I certainly didn't get together with him for money, he had none.Proud to be dealing with my debts
DD Katie born April 2007!
3 years 9 months and proud of it

Ok I will respond nicely......yes I am childish, that's something I like about myself, it may even be what keeps me looking 10 years younger as according to tinks!

Got to admit I thought you were a similar age to me, your photo makes you look very youthful. I'm 26!
I have a big big age gap with my OH, he is older, and the only real problem we have with it is that my mum finds it hard to cope with
Oh he had no money either! We still don't :rotfl:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

And it is true that it's hard to like an ex's new girlfriend. I made a real effort with the new girlfriend of my most significant ex and I really hoped they would be happy together, as I didn't want him back, but I did have some concerns which were unfortunately realised.
I think it's good to discuss things like this on here, rather than say anything to your ex, as oit's normal to feel this way but not right to share it with him.0 -
Sorry, I find this thread shocking....
Quite a few posters assume - older man, younger girl, she is after money!!!!!
Well, I have OH 18 yrs older then me and I wish he had lot of money!!!:-))))))) I was 21 when we got together too.
8yrs later we are still together. I am also more mature then him and my own earning now are already nearly as much as he had when we met... within few years in fact I should match his now. I have my own career and he has never thrown money at me. They was never any need to to be honest, most of the time I have more then him after he paid his debt bills:-))
I like older men because they treat women better. The young idiots who sit down and play computer games all night, before throwing a tantrum about washing up, showing off in front of their mates and flirt with girls in bars is just not my scene. Have been there, done that, not interested in man under 30 full stop!!
Then the more shocking bit - the 33 yr old man in this case is not even the biological father and the OP was pregnant at 17 (unmarried)... but think age gap of 12 years might be a problem...
New age O.K. for some things but not for others I see..0 -

I agree with your comment in bold.
I do not understand why you are "uneasy" - there is almost a dangerous untertone to this comment although both people are adults ?
If your oldest child is "18 this year" - i.e. he is 17, then as his dad is 33 then if my maths are correct then he must have been 16 when he became a father.
It may be that he missed out on the carefree teenage years with clubbing etc. and that he has found a partner with these interests and that they are having a good time ?
Are you just not happy that your ex may be having a good time ?0 -
I get where you are coming from, Any.
I hear about some of my friends' dramas, their bfs have gone out snogging random girls, facebook drama, getting drunk and arguing, having 5 million ex's (how do they fnd the time??) and apparently round here about 5 years ago a whole bunch of girls ended up with Chlamydia from having unprotected sex with the same lad (I am assured this was on seperate occasions not in an orgy setting) and all the girls fell out with each other over a) going behind each other's backs b) who gave him Chlamydia to start with! No one gave the bloke any trouble at all
I just don't belong in that society, never have. I can't keep up
