My boys are 10 and 8, so a big gap between them and the baby!
She was born in May, so we haven't tried tights yet, but she's got some frilly knickers to cover her nappies when she's got dresses on. They look cute! Someone also bought me some Next vests with frills over the bum which are easier than the knickers.
You can pick up some lovely things for next to nothing in Tesco and Primark. I don't like spending a lot when they grow out of things so quickly.
We spent ages discussing names. We'd start out serious, then end up in fits of giggles thinking up stupid ones  Hubby still thinks we should have called her "the egg" though:rotfl:
Here I go again on my own....0 -
Hi hippychick, welcome to the club. I actively avoided getting pink things for our daughter (partly because she's our first and I want as many things as possible to be reusable for a boy and partly because I'm just not that mad about pink). She's still got loads of pink things though because almost everyone who bought us presents gave us pink stuff.0

We just found out yesterday we are having a girl and I'm worried I'm going to go overboard with pink, and we are completely at a loss for a name.
I'm hoping to breastfeed this time round. I never managed it with Josh, and managed 15 weeks with Alfie, till he needed feeding constantly. He was just TOO hungry. Well done Becles on feeding for so long :T
My DD who is now one week off being 10, did not have any pink clothes bought by me.
I did not want her to be judged and treated differently at such a young age. I made sure also to call her a 'big strong girl' amd she played with what she wanted which was tractors and blocks rather than dolls. I had a lot of stripy stuff, and my fave colours then were orange and purple which looked really cool on a tiny baby, and great for disguising stains!
Also it meant a lot of her baby clothes got passed on to my sons.:)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Hi hippychick and welcome. Well, I've got 2 girls and our house is a total pink shrine!! I also started out with the opinion that I didn't want all pink stuff, so the nursery was pastel green which matched some green and lilac winnie the pooh bedding and accessories that were available at the time. It's cuter than it sounds!!
However, limiting exposure to pink did not stop DD1 aged 4 from becoming a pink obsessive. She has a pink and lilac bedroom and although there is a smattering of denim and a tiny bit of lemon, all DD2's wardrobe has been pink, mainly as DD1 is usually there when I'm buying stuff and influencing the decisions! She now wants me to redecorate the nursery as she doesn't think that Izzy likes green very much, I'm sure you know what colour she thinks she will prefer!
I don't think it hurts to do the pink thing
Just realised I'm sitting here wearing a pink tshirt  (Thinking I should maybe change my name to pinkpatch now!!)0 -
Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm trying not to go pink mad, but after two boys its nice to be able to buy girly clothes! No doubt she will end up a tom boy with having two older brothers to play with.
Purplepatch - I think my nursery sounds the same as yours. We have green and lilac winnie the pooh curtains (ebay!!). I'm trying to find the matching bedding now.
Sarahsaver - I totally agree with you about letting her play with whatever whe wants. The house is full of mixed gender toys and I don't plan on pointing out what are girls and boys toys to any of my children. As long as they're happy playing that's all that matters.
Becles - How are your boys with your little girl? Do they dote on her or find her irritating? Josh (5) is soooo looking forward to meeting his sister, but I'm sure the novelty will wear off after a week. I am dreading Alfie's reaction, he is so clingy towards me. He's just going to have to deal with it though.
At the minute, we're actually living in Germany (DH is is the army) so cannot benefit from Primark and Tesco clothes. I've been scouring the internet looking for places that might deliver out here though. I don't want to spend a fortune because I know family and friends will buy a lot.Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
My boys are great with the baby. They both like playing with her, and read books and stuff with her. They haven't seemed jealous at all, although I've made a point of doing non-baby things with them, like playing board games when she's is asleep.
The 8 year old is brilliant - like a proper little Dad! I was making their packed lunchboxes for school this morning when she woke up. He got her out the cot, changed her nappy and brought her down for her feed. He even insited on going to the baby clinic in the school hols because he wanted to ask the health visitor some questions about teethingHere I go again on my own....0 -
Oh Becles, that's so sweet about your DS2 being such a great helper! :T I remember you mentioned he was really interested in your pregnancy as well - a proper new man he's going to be! :T
My DS1 is only 4, but he's great with the baby too - I do wonder whether this is going to last or what? He actually wants to help change his nappies  , constantly cuddles and kisses him even when I'm "not looking" (I try to catch him out poking him or something if he thinks I'm not looking, but he doesn't!). He really has exceeded all my expectations. Just hope this lasts!

My baby's nearly ten weeks now  and my eldest (he's just turned five!) is still absolutely besotted with his baby brother. He's always picking him up and saying 'I love you' over and over to him! :A He won't let him cry for a second and will pick him up and coo at him. If he can't get him to stop crying he brings him to me, no matter how inconvenient it is. He carried him over to me when I was on the toilet the other day!
I can't believe how good he is and that there hasn't been the slightest bit of jealousy at all. (Hope I'm not jinxing things!) I do think having such a large age gap makes it easier though.0 -
That made me think, Jo, seeing that you said your eldest picks up the baby, I had been wondering whether it will be okay to let DS1 pick up DS2 once he's a bit bigger and can hold his head up properly. DS1 is a big strong boy (bigger than most 5-year-olds), so I guess he'd be able to (and he's desperate to!) but I wasn't sure. I'm glad you mentioned it.
BTW I do think my DS1 is a tiny bit jealous sometimes, but he never takes it out on the baby, it's usually us! But it's mostly silly little things, like he lies on the changing mat and pretends to be a baby, LOL. :rotfl:0 -
My DD1 is also brilliant with the baby, in ten months can honestly say I've never seen one ounce of jealousy. She dotes on her, treats her like her own baby. Luckily the feeling is mutual and the baby's face lights up when she sees her. DD1 can have her in hysterics just by pulling funny faces or making strange noises - has her collapsed with the giggles much easier than us grown ups. It is lovely to watch. I also think that the 3 and a half year age gap helps.0
