Boobwatch update: The blocked duct has gone...I am cured! :T :T :T

I'll try to use the rugby ball hold next time Lu, thanks - I'm not very good at feeding in that position (she's very long, and her legs just seem to dangle uncomfortably) but I think I could do it if I support her on a pillow.

Sorry about the sick, it's awful when they keep throwing up isn't it. And then they either look at you with their big startled eyes as though it was your fault, or they grin at you while you try and scrub acid flavour cottage cheese out of the carpet! Hope she feels better soon.

I've decided to stop breastfeeding. It's just getting stupid now with 10+ feeds a day which is a lot considering she sleeps 10 hours at night, plus a 3-4 hour nap in the afternoons.

Charlottes dropped a couple of centiles on the weight chart, although that could be down to a growing spurt too as she's got longer all of a sudden!

The BF'ing is getting to be a bind. She's looking for milk every hour or so and I can't get anything else done. It's like feed her, then I have breakfast and get dressed, and she's looking for milk again. Or I feed her, zoom to Tesco and sprint round the store to get back in time for her next feed.

She was getting a bottle at bed time, and I started giving her one during the day as an experiment. She's going about 3 hours after that bottle before looking for more milk, so I think it's better for her to be on bottle milk now.

I feel sad but proud that I managed for 18 weeks. I'm thinking about weaning her within the next month so milk demands would drop then anyway.
Here I go again on my own....

I use the "rugby ball" position when I'm feeding Alice on the left so that I can still have my right arm free to do things like eat, read, answer the phone etc. I have a chest of drawers next to the armchair I feed Alice in which is the same height as the arms. I put one pillow on my knee and then a second pillow sticking out over the arm of the chair and the chest of drawers.

Snaggles - you definitely need pillows for rugby-ball feeding. I have one of those curved nursing pillows which was worth every penny, even though I only BF for 3.5 months.

Becles - be prepared to be really sad. I fully support your decision, you've given Charlotte a great start, but you have to do what's best for you both.

I felt awful when I gave up BF (her choice, not mine), like some kind of special bond had gone. And now she's on the bottle she's free to gaze about while feeding. When I was BF she would only gaze at me, and I really miss that, even 5 months later!

Just don't drop all the feeds at once. It's pretty painful, but stick with it and have a plan. Perhaps hubby can help with some morning/evening bottles to take the pressure off you at the start. Good luck with it!

Yes, well done Becles! :T 18 weeks is an awful lot more than the national average in this country, so you've done a great job! (Really can't blame you for stopping, feeding every hour!)

Alex is doing quite well with his feeds and usually goes about 4 hours between his feeds (unless he's having a growth spurt ). He got weighed again today and has put on 14oz in 6 days. But he's a very long baby, so I guess he needs to put on loads of weight. His big bro was the same at this age, putting on humongous amounts of weight, so I guess I just make fast-growing babies! :rotfl:

Can't wait for him to smile now - what age are they supposed to do that, 5-6 weeks? So looking forward to it. :)

Re: nursing bras, I'm not bothered by the lack of underwiring - I remember after I stopped BFing DS1, it was so weird going back to normal bras. But it is annoying how most nursing bras look so ridiculous, although I have managed to pick up a couple of reasonably nice-looking ones in the Mothercare sale.
  • Hi there. Can I join? I have a little boy Josh who is 5 on Monday and another boy Alfie who is 20 months. My third baby (a girl :j ) is due in November. We just found out yesterday we are having a girl and I'm worried I'm going to go overboard with pink, and we are completely at a loss for a name.

I'm hoping to breastfeed this time round. I never managed it with Josh, and managed 15 weeks with Alfie, till he needed feeding constantly. He was just TOO hungry. Well done Becles on feeding for so long :T

Hi hippychick. I've got 2 older boys and had a baby girl in May. We've gone overboard on the pink stuff too :D

We're desperate for her hair to grow so we can put bonny clips and stuff in it.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Yes Snaggles they are my boys in my avatar. That's from quite a while ago I think. I'll have to get an updated picture. Joshua started school last week and he looks so grown up now. God it makes me feel old!

Hi Becles. How old are your boys? I keep looking at girl's clothes now online and worrying about tights and knickers and girly stuff! I feel lost, even though this is my third child. I have gone through thousands of girl's names now, and have a few I quite like, but DH doesn't seem to agree. He'll come round I'm sure.

I've realised now that I'm 31 weeks pregnant that I actually need to buy quite a few things. I haven't bought a single thing for the baby yet.
