Has anyone used a baby swing?
Are they worth the money?
I'm considering buying one for my baby but there a little pricey.
Someone told me I can use it as a highchair as well.0 -
Hi Kal25 and Hippychick of course you can join in the more people looking out for bargains the better!!!!
India I do not have a swing but I did get a bouncer seat this time (ds1 hated the simple one we had but ds2 loves it) but it was a present I think these things are very pricy for the amount of use you get out of them and they can also be bad for the babies back. ( mine is soft and can lie flat so not too bad)

I recently found out that I'm not entilted to the sure start maternity grant because I'm not on the higher rate WFTC.
I've started a petition to the prime minister stating I think the grant should be avaliable too all mother regardless of earning because have a baby is expensive.
I've read a few post on this website and think there are a few people that will agree with me.
If you agree can you please click on the link and sign the petition.

Hi, can i joi in
I am Tory and I have a baby girl, Megan who was born 3 weeks early on the 7th novemver 2006, she weighed 5lbs 14oz! She was born via c-section as she was breach and they did it at 37 weeks becase I had pre-eclampsia quite badley and was hospitalized anyway so they just wanted her out...me too by that stage!!
We are deffinatly trying to adjust to finances as a 'family' now rather than spending what we liked on random stuff before hand!!
Nice to see some other parents around0 -
Welcome all newbies - nice to have more people looking out for bargains!
Thanks for all the expressing advice. HV said that 1.5oz the first time I expressed was pretty good and to keep at it. Apparently evenings are best as your milk supply is at its highest. Last night I got 3oz no probs. Hubby is now doing the 11pm feed, although I'm still awake! He likes doing it though.
HV also said that I must make sure she's taking a feed from me in the evenings to maintain milk supply. So when she starts sleeping through hubby will do early morning feed and I will do 11pm one. At least I'll get a bit of a lie-in!
Just squeezing this in before my first baby massage class - can't wait! It's a 4-week course at our local brand new children's centre and is only costing me £1 per week. Bargain! :money:
If any of you have children's centres nearby I suggest you check them out. They're a new govt initiative and some do daycare as well as stay & play for all ages, HV and midwife drop ins etc.MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
If you don't mind expressing getting your dh to do some of the feeds is great ( I hate expressing so dh gets to do bathtime). Ruben is still not going any longer then 5 hours between feeds ( he once did 6) so having a good nights rest is a long way off yet. I got the invite for baby massage classes through today. I loved it last time but I won't be going to the classes this time as the busfare is £4 and I have nobody to look after my toddler. You can buy the massage oil for a pound at the classes her but it cheaper to make it yourself I cannot remember the recipe but will ask my HV on tuesday when Ruben gets his first jabs.
We do not have a childrens centre here but the HV's are very helpfull and have a list of all activities that are being done in the area and when ds1 was born they had a drop in clinic near my house which was great you could see the hv , weigh your baby or just sit and have a cup of tea and chat with the other mums.

Just seen your post about massage oil. Apparently the best oil to use for massage is cold compressed olive oil because it doesn't smell. Apparently your scent is essential for bonding so it's best to use something which doesn't have a scent of its own.
Imogen loved the class, so we'll definitely be doing some of that at home when I've learnt it all. Hubby has taken his other week's paternity leave next week, so we're all off together. Looking forward to having a couple of days out as still don't have a car. Cabin fever is starting to set in!!
If anyone wants a changing bag Vertbaudet have some great ones in the sale. The website's a bit funny though, search in the sale bit for 'bag' and some come up, search for 'shoulder bag' and others come up. There are quite a few at half price so we've picked one up for £11.99 - cheaper than Ebay! :money:MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
Interesting to read what you are all up to.
I've given up breast feeding now as i wasn't getting the time to do the expressing. Lu T persevere with the expressing. I found it best on an evening too, although, i got most if i did one side, then the other, then went back again. It might only be an extra half ounce, but that worked for me. Also, it's supposed to be quite good 30 mins after a feed. Charlie always whinged too much at me to be able to do it properly though.
baby swing i have one i borrowed from my sis, and he hates it. Any chance of trying before you buy? My nephew loved it, and my sister found it fab.
baby massage oil and massage classes. I've just started going to these classes too, and it has been great for dealing with bowel blockages, and making him sleep more soundly on a night and day. Our classes have been free at the local surestart centre. I was told that sunflower oil was best, because the size of the molecules in it is best for absorbing through the skin.
I've been feeling very down, so i've been referred to the surestart centre to have a relaxing massage, which will hopefully relax me, with aromatherapy to deal with my stresses. This is free too! I love living near the centre.
I also asked what else i could sign up for, and they do weaning parties, baby group, and music and movement. It's going to be good for me to get out the house more i think.
I must be bad, because i am already trying to plan when to have the next baby. Not helped because i discovered two friends from work who had babies last year are pregnant again already. My boss will be having kittens. :rotfl:
