We bought a baby swing the Graco 6 speed one off ebay for 30 quid. Its been a godsend, we were able to have our first meal without one of us putting down a knife and fork to attend to our son. I tried him out in a friends one first and he loved it, so its the best thing I have bought him. Finally I can get on with some chores for half hour or so. Plus he has to sit up more as he has reflux, so its a winner all round.!!
Good luck0 -
Hi Bailey - glad you're feeling better and baby's reflux is better - even if just for half an hour at a time.
Expressing is getting better - practise seems to make (nearly) perfect. Not had much luck dream-feeding her at 8.30pm tonight, although she takes the 11pm feed really well. Any ideas anyone?MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
What do you mean by dream-feeding Lu T?
I also have the graco swing - sounds like you got a good bargain bailey. I'm hoping bubs likes it when he is a bit bigger.
Anyone any ideas on this as a problem. He is now 14 and1/2 weeks, and he still screams the house down every time i give him a bath. He has never slipped under, had shampoo in his eyes or anything traumatic. I thought it might be because he didn't like the baby bath, so i have now upgraded to a couple of inches of water in the main bath so he can lay on the bottom, but no improvement.I also bath him almost every night, which i've done since he was about 5 weeks old in an attempt to get him used to it. :rotfl: Will he do this until he's18??? Cos that is what it feels like. I daren't take him swimming until i sort this or i'll look like i abuse him.

Hi Michelle, we were due about the same time - I remember you from the pregnancy thread- my dd is 13 weeks today. She absolutely adores bathtime as I bought a bath support which she lays in really snugly and securely. She thinks it is hilarious to kick her legs really hard, which dd1 aged nearly 4 is not terribly impressed about as she gets soaked from all the splashing!! Anyway, this is the one I got, perhaps it is worth a try as it must be more confidence inspiring for baby than that horrid one arm under the back and the other one doing a quick once over technique (well that's what I used to do!)
Also, on the subject of swings, I've posted one on the grabbit board here, Graco Travel Lite £33 delivered from Kiddicare RRP £70. Last few remaining.0 -

Hiya purplepatch - remember you too.
that bath support looks good, though i'm not sure for now. It says up to 8kg, and he was 6.8kg when he was weighed 2 weeks ago. Little piglet. Plus he tries to sit up.
it's starting to become a bit of a phobia. Last night he was shaking before he got in.0 -

He's a fair bit bigger than my little one - she's nearly 6 kilos, weight chart predicts that she will be 8 kilos at 6 months so still got some use to come. She does look pretty snug in it so probably not worth it for you. Saying that, my nearly 4 year old manages to wedge her backside into it as well, so perhaps ok after all :rotfl:. I know what you mean about the sitting up thing, but I do find that the weight of the water and slipperiness aspect stop her (plus I'm never more than a few cms away of course). You can get bath seats for when they are 6 months plus, but he ought to be sitting unaided - I got one for DD1 but only used it a handful of times - found it awkward and unnecessary. I guess it could be handy though for babies who are scared of the bath, might give them a feeling of security, something to hold onto.
Do you think it's a fear of being in the bath itself or is it immersion in the water? Have you tried bathing him in the sink instead? Does he mind top and tailing?
Edited to say just seen this support which "adapts to needs of your growing baby" - looks quite nifty, check out the other pictures, lets them go on their tummies, helps them sit up etc.... quite tempted myself!!0 -
I don't know what he is afraid of
He's never had anything bad happen. He will let me top and tail him quite happily now, although at one point i had to put up with screams when i changed him, dressed him, and i still get screams when i put him in his car seat and buggy, although neither of these as traumatic as the bath. I've tried sitting him up, bathing him with his cousin so he had things to play with/distract him.
I think i'll talk to the health visitor at baby clinic this week.
That second bath support looks fab. With the added benefit i could use it if he doesn't like it. I think i might get one to try, although i'm going to look and see if i can find one on ebay cheaper in true MSE style. Thanks for finding that for me.

Michelle, I don't know if this has been mentioned, but have you tried taking him in the bath with you? Just a thought................0
