  • congratulations!

I think H&M do cheap BF tops

have you thought about using a baby sling to help with the reflux? as it will keep the baby upright and allow you to get on and do stuff (unless you're still babymooning and putting your feet up ;) ) A stretchy wraparound sling is invaluable with a newborn (and beyond) you might be able to pick one up cheap from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UKbabywearingSWAP/ and if you need help using it or more advice try http://www.slingmeet.co.uk/

  • Thanks for the explanation, I will try it with plenty of muslins around in case of projectile vomitting.

I do have a Tomy sling at home but its difficult to get Jack in by myself, he seems ok in his bouncy chair for a little while though. I have ordered a nightlight from Blooming Marvellous today as recommended by Lu T. I am really looking forward to its arrival.

    Sad aren't I?

    Anything to help them sleep.

Last night for the first time Jack went down at 10.30pm, ealiest yet and didn't wake until 1.30pm, then back down at 3pm until 5.30am. So we are getting there! He still has his days and nights mixed up I think.

Lu T pls can u tell me what the dimensions are on the light? thanks also anyone have a discount code for the site, that would be fab!!

    Thanks

It's quite thin, only about 3-4cm from front to back About 15cm wide and 20cm high.

Quote AB7E for 10% off the new new spring collection. Not sure if you'd get the discount off the light too. It's on page 84 of the latest catalogue, product no BCG-5050 £19.99.

    Hope this is useful!

Sorry Bailey, just catching up on posts and didn't see that you've ordered it!

Following a week of screaming fits we have had two better nights. :j Hubby went back to work yesterday - Tues - so I forced him to sleep in the spare room on Monday and last night. His job can be quite physical and I didn't want him going back on only 4 hours sleep, one hour at a time!

On Monday night she slept from 11 until nearly 3am, took about 20 mins to settle after a 20 min feed, then didn't get up until just after 6.30am. She was very grumpy then for a few hours, but at least she wasn't doing that in the middle of the night! Last night she fed at 10.30pm, woke at 2am but took 45 mins to settle after a feed, then woke at 6am but then went back to sleep until 9 this morning after a quick feed!

Hubby got in bed with me for 30mins at 7am - I would normally be feeding her having woken her up, but didn't bother as she'd only just fed. We had a lovely cuddle and doze for half an hour before he got up. Bliss!

Really hoping we've turned a corner on the wind/taking 3 hours to settle thing. She's been up since 9am today and only just gone off about 30mins ago. We're going out for a walk in 20 mins to try to set her body clock. The theory is that going outside between 12 and 2 helps set the body clock because of the sunlight. Not sure if it works, although she is getting better, but it's nice to get out, even for only 30 mins!

Glad this thread is useful for people. I'm finding the posts a real help and feel very supported. Thanks girls! :T

  • I've just started my little lad on cow and gate comfort 1 to try to help his reflux. its given him awful smelly farts that i've gone to change him several times thinking he'd poo'd. he's still being quite sick 2.

if this doesn't work the doc will presribe a soya milk. anyone know anything about them? if that doesn't work he wil see a paediatrician.

even 2-3 hours after a feed he can be sick, its quite impressive.

the washing for me and him is horrendous, my slippers copped it big time last night.

poor little chap screws up his face when the stomach acid comes up, i feel for him as i get reflux 2, but at least i can control mine.

Oh Bailey, that must be really hard seeing him in discomfort and bringing up whatever you feed him.

I presume HV has recommended trying to keep him a bit more upright following a feed? We put a couple of folded up towels under the moses basket (not the mattress) when Imogen was struggling with wind. Seemed to help. Fingers crossed something will help him feel better.

:money: Money-saving tip from my midwife - use only cotton wool and water to clean baby's bottom while you're at home. It saves on wipes, but more importantly means you aren't loading their skin with chemicals. Wipes are fine for convenience while you're out, but doing it this way keeps it cheap and natural at home. :money: :money:

Has anyone else tried Pampers? We got Huggies first because of the Boots mum & baby club offer and they were fine. We got a voucher for Pampers so bought some of these, but so far they have slipped down her back so she wee-d everywhere, leaked round the legs so she got poo everywhere and today on our first trip out for the whole day (to see the proud grandparents) the poo made its way out of the nappy, up her back and round on to her stomach. Tights and vest were covered and she spent the rest of the day in just a skirt and cotton top. Yes - we forgot to take a spare outfit!! :rotfl:

Am thinking of writing to them to say how rubbish they are, the shape seems to be wrong and we can't get them to do up properly. We're just waiting for her cord stump to fully heal before getting her on reusables, so isn't the end of the world, but just thought I'd share. Sorry for ranting... ;)

I tried pampers and allthough with ds1 they were the only nappies that did not leak now they leak all over the place so we use huggies once his poos become a bit more solid I will start trying different brands.

btw my best moneysaving buy this time round has got to be my slowcooker (christmas pressie) I have an extra large one and cook double meals which is great as it means that when I do not feel like cooking i have a whole bunch of readymeals in my freezer

    x Anne
  • we do the cotton wool trick and slow cooker thing too.

i feel down today jack's refux is getting to me, sorry one handed typing.

i found tesco nappies to be great, cheaper and work just as well as the more expensive brands.

my lad is so eager to get his food these days he gets hystical when I try to wind him half way or 1 third through. I though if I wind him in 2 or 3 parts then he'll have less air to bring up with the reflux behind it. But as soon as I remove the bottle he gets so cross and REALLY cries hysterically until it goes back in . He really guzzles despite me trying to slow him down, that can't be good for a wind thing either. I can't use slower teats as the new milk and gaviscon make it so thick it doesn't pull through. Even I've tried and its hard for me.

We are using variflow teats on an 8 week old and he often ends up getting drowned in his milk as he guzzles it and won't go slow. The no.4 teats were no good as we tried them last night. He was on no.2 teats that we made slightly bigger, so probably nearer size 3, but this Comfort1 milk is quite gloopy, but its filling him up more.

Its a nightmare and I am starting to dread every feed and often end up in tears myself.

I am actually as I type this. I've been diagnosed mild PND and am currently taking St Johns Wort, I don't want to have anti D unless I can help it. I just don't know what to do, maybe its just a bad day and tomorrow will be better.
