I have a question ????? what toy/s if any do you allow L/O to take into their cot? If you reply could you let me know how old your L/O is. As Ellie is 8 months and I feel cruel not allowing her a toy in her cot so the past few nites I have given her one but if she wakes in the night you hear her telling it a story!!!!:rotfl: Not sure what to do for the best :rotfl:
Charlotte has always had cuddly toys in her cot. I think the boys had them from birth too. At first they were up the top end of the cot in case they rolled on them when they were tiny babies, but they get moved around once they were big enough to reach them.
From about 9-10 months, Charlotte took a shine to "pink ted" and always looks for that one to cuddle when she goes to sleep. Here I go again on my own....0 -
re the toys in bed question - archie has always had toys in his bed too, I just made sure they were "safe" toys as in suitable from birth. These include the Aptimil bear and cow and gate cow as they were 0+ toys however it's amazing how many toys aren't suitable before a year or older.
Archie went into his own room at 7 mths after delaying tactics from me as I wasn't sure - however he and consequently we slept much better then. Funnily enough I got used to it very quickly too - though I thought I'd be missing him badly. :0)MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0 -
Re: toys in bed, my boys also had some soft teddies from just a few weeks old. As long as they're suitable from birth, I don't see why not, especially when they're old enough to manoeuvre them around the cot.
Alex also has a cot toy that hangs on the side of the cot, you know one of those things with lights and bubbles and fish or something. Keeps him busy for a bit when he wakes up, and also he likes looking at the lights before going to sleep.
Re: own room, my boys went into their own rooms at 1 month (DS1) and 2 months (DS2), mainly because they're big boys who outgrew their moses baskets really quickly and their cots wouldn't fit in our bedroom.
I totally agree with the others that it's completely up to you what you want to do. I'd say if you're happy having the baby in your room at 7, 8, 9, whatever months (11 years might be a bit excessive though! ), then why not. I know a few people who had their babies in their rooms until 12-18 months, whatever works for you! :T
It is a very emotional time though, I agree, at least for the mum (dads are probably a bit different! ), but when the time is right, the time is right!0 -
Re, babies in their own rooms, Katie is 16 months old and still sleeps in our room, fortunately our bedroom is big enough for her cot, she starts the night in her cot and about 3am comes into bed, I would just find it too disturbing to get out of bed and traipse into another room to get her. Plus the fact her room is full of all the things that she has outgrown.
It's the only thing I'm not looking forward to on holiday as we are in a caravan she will have to be in her own room.
Re toys in the bed - Katie didn't have any toys in her bed until she was about 12 months old, she now has a pink beany doy (favourite), Lady from Lady & the Tramp, and Tigger. If we give her one of the others she moves so that she is touching the pink dog.
I found another tooth today, my mum had a look and she said that it was the first double tooth not an incisor tooth, it's the same on the opposite side so she seems to pop teeth in pairs as it was the same with the top and bottom front teeth. :j
She was so cute tonight, she was having some nappy free time after her bath before bed, she suddenly started clutching herself like she was desperate for a wee, so I grabbed a nappy and as I put it on her she started to go! Not bad for a 16 month old.

Poppy's always had toys in her cot too. It started off with the ted DH bought her when she was born and a black and white crinkley cloth book that attaches on to the crib...she would wake up in the night, have a flick through and then settle back off to sleep! :rotfl:.
Now she has about 6 cuddleys dotted around and when I go in of a morning she is sat up in a corner chatting and playing with her selected choice :happyhear.
Poppy has never once slept in our bed. Am I in the minority here?!. DH and I are obviously quite selfish with our 'me time'!

None of mine have slept in my bed, unless they were sick or had nightmares and needed a hug, but once they were asleep I take them back to their own beds.
Charlotte has learned how to say "oooh what's this?" and she says it constantly until you answer her. A nappy change will go something like:
"oooh what's this?" "trousers"
"oooh what's this?"
"socks"
"oooh what's this?"
"wipes"
"oooh what's this?"
"changing mat"
"oooh what's this?"
"a nappy"
"oooh what's this?"
"a teddy"
and so on.
Gets a bit tiresome by the end of the dayHere I go again on my own....0 -
Mine have never slept a whole night in our bed, but as tiny babies I'm sure there were lots of occasions when I'd nodded off while feeding them in bed, then woke up two hours later, only to find them still feeding! :rotfl:
Becles, thats so funny :T (and I guess prepares you for the endless 'why's when they're toddlers! )
I'm amazed Charlotte is talking in sentences! :j I know Alex is a few months younger but we're still at the mama stage0 -
She's only said "dada" for months, but all of a sudden's she started saying more things and making phrases. She looks cute walking round cuddling a teddy and saying "awwww teddy."
Today when my husband came in she said "aaah there's a dada", and she hides her face and says "wheres Charlotte today?", then pops out and says "aah she's there"
I do talk to her loads and she seems to be picking it up quickly and copying me. She had a biscuit earlier and when I was wiping her hands, I said "did you like the biscuit?" and she said "like biscuit" back.
Joshua was the same and he was a right little chatterbox from an early age, but James hardly spoke at all until he nearly 4. He would do things like just point at the juice when he was thirsty rather than ask for it and I was getting concerned, and then he just started talking in sentences one day and hasn't shut up sinceHere I go again on my own....0 -
Alice says, "mama" more than, "dada" but it's usually because she wants some milk.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5
