nifi26 hello and welcome to the thread.

Ellie has started saying her first few words and believe it or not the 1st words she has mastered is "hiya" and "mum"

My Asda were selling off alot of Hipp Organic stuff in the reduced aisle so might be worth a look at your local when doing your shopping might be end of range but still has long dates.

Unfortunately we don't have an Asda anywhere near... My largest local supermarket is Morrissons and they don't have a lot on offer baby-wise so I get most of my stuff from boots.

So far ds has gone off any shape or form of bottle so it's breast only - maybe he's doing his bit of MSE?
As for solids I like making my own so again it's less costly. So far only used one jar and that was one I got with a coupon at boots!

traveller I never felt sick while breast feeding but felt dizzy and tired and at the beginning always needed a large glass of water at every feed. Since we've started solids I have been paying ess attention to my diet and fluid intake and I often feel ill... so watch it.

The baby will always get what he/she needs, it's us mums who will suffer!

I ate more when I was breastfeeding. If you think about you, you need to eat enough calories for both you and baby like when you were pregnant, as you are making all of the baby's food.

I found I was starving hungry when I woke to do the night feeds, so I used to have something like some toast or a bowl of cereal before I went to bed.

It is important to drink lots of water too, to replace the water used to make the milk. I always had a big glass of water when I was doing the day time feeds, but didn't bother at night as I'd wake up an hour later needing a wee :o
Here I go again on my own....

i take a bottle of juice to bed with me cant stand just water and often have pure orange in the day with ice in it so thats my water intake.

what are peoples opinions on breast feeding and drinking?the reason i ask is i have a free vip night out with free drinks that i cant take some time this year.i dont drink very often at all and dont intend on drinking alot when i do go out but was wondering if a couple of bottle of something like vk would be ok?also when do people think its ok to leave baby obv i would express milk.

A VIP night out with free drinks? Can I come? :D

You are fine to breastfeed after a couple of drinks - the Kellymom website has looooads of information on all things to do with breastfeeding and mentions alcohol here: http://www.kellymom.com/health/lifestyle/alcohol.html

Basically if you're not drunk, you're alright. Even then you would have to be really VERY drunk for your milk to affect your baby. Breastmilk is made from blood, so as the alcohol leaves your bloodstream, so it would leave the milk you produce as well.

You might want to wait until Riley is at least 6 weeks old before you start expressing just to ensure that your supply is well established, you can store milk in the freezer for up to 3 months though! :)

I might be wrong but I thought the six weeks thing was that they reckon using bottles could cause nipple confusion. I expressed from about one week and gave one bottle of EBM per day from two weeks and I always expressed more than I needed (and have a freezer half full of milk to prove it).

Hi Susan :) I think it's a bit of both really - there will always be some babies who can go from nipple to bottle and back again without a problem, and some women find expressing easy early on too - but it does take about 6 weeks for breastfeeding to become established I suppose both in terms of supply and the baby's ability to nurse.

I'm very envious of your freezer of milk! Half an ounce here and I nearly keel over with pride!

well hes had expressed milk and come back on to me ive found tommee tippee closer to nature teats brilliant ive never believed teat shapes matter but with these it does they really are like latex nipples.
i can easily express 2 ounces from one boob i just think it depends on how much baby feeds etc. the very first 2 days he was on me for 6 hours constantly swapping boobs i was so tired lol.

    hi there,
i thought i'd say hello, i had a little boy 6 weeks ago, his name is Oscar and he's lovely. I'm breast feeding too and have been expressing for a couple of weeks so am building up my nice supply of freezer milk as well, i found expressing difficult for the first couple of times and was only able to get an ounce or so but now it flies out and i can fill a 4 ounce bottle in about 3 or 4 minutes! the problem is that i have to make sure i can express at the same times each day or my boobs feel like they're gonna explode.

I've started giving my wee man a bottle of my milk at night time (well my husband does)to make sure he's taking a good big feed before bed cos when i feed him myself he does tend to fall asleep quickly and doesn't take enough. He wakes up twice a night usually at about 3am and then near 6 ish it used to be 2am and 4 or 5am so he's stretching out a little bit. Can't remember what a full nights sleep feels like! though twice a night is manageable.

oh can i just add something - it may have been mentioned before but if you do have lots of stored milk and either you're not gonna use it or its coming to the end of the three months then you could contact a milk bank and give it to them.
