The tests went ok - thanks.

It was the same as yours Septemberbaby - fast over night, have bloods taken, drink a vile sugary drink, then wait two hours and have more bloods taken.

I had it done at the local cottage hospital, and they have to send the results back to my GP, so they should be back by Friday. However, I'm going on holiday on Monday, so I've got an appointment for the 5th June to see the GP.

She said to help the blood sugar problems, I should eat a healthy diet, cut back on sugary foods and do some exercise. However, when I explained I'm going to an all inclusive resort, she said I can have two weeks grace to stuff my face :rotfl:

Husband is trying to quit smoking again and he's got some tablets to try this time. They interfere with brain receptors so you don't get a buzz from the nicotine anymore and then start wondering why you are bothering smoking. They have side effects, so he's starting them after the holidays, so he's got two weeks to smoke his head off :D

His main incentive is the car. He's had a serious of old bangers that have ended up costing a fortune in repairs. When I pointed out what he was spending on fags and showed him if he used the fag money as a loan payment, he could get a much better car, he decided to go for it. He's just bought a nearly new Focus and is loving it, so he needs to come off the fags to pay for it now.
Here I go again on my own....

Hi all, just logging on after a crazy week! Imogen had a lovely holiday at my mum's and me & OH have enjoyed some quality time together - even though we've still been at work. We missed her like crazy though and agreed we'd have had her back on Tuesday night if we could - I went over on Thurs and hubby picked us up on Saturday.

Hobo - I used this book and found it great http://www.ciao.co.uk/NCT_First_Foods_and_Weaning__5653748 There's a really good timetable of what you can introduce when, how the solid & bottle feeds fit together and how much of each they should be having. I think someone else also recommends the Hipp site - just ignore the jars bit if you aren't doing that.

Basically babe should still be having the majority of his/her nutrition from milk up to and past 6 months (20oz a day was what we worked on I think?). Weaning is just about getting them used to solids and new tastes rather than them getting sustainance and calories from them. We never gave solids & milk together - always split by a couple of hours. Then when she was happy with solids we cut back on milk feeds and adjusted solids accordingly. We also weaned at 17 weeks (Imogen was exceptionally hungry) and had no problems. If you're uncomfortable weaning now, or don't think it's helping, just leave it a little while and start again.

Some of the others on here do baby-led weaning (BLW) but I don't know too much about that I'm afraid. Wish I'd heard about it at the time! HTH

Congrats Michelle. Sam is gorgeous! :T Glad you're having a better time of it than with Charlie. It just makes me even more nervous about when we have another as Imogen was such a settled baby, I reckon we're in for a rough ride next time ;)

Becles - have a fab time away. Am v jealous. Let us know where you went & what you thought. We're looking for an All Inc hol for September - last time Imogen can fly without paying for a seat of her own. (That's exactly what we did when we gave up smoking 8 years ago - great incentive, will keep it all crossed for him)

:money: Oh, and my MSE tip for this week. Forget expensive zoos. Just take baby to the pet shop like my mum did with Imogen this week. She had a great time looking at all the baby bunnies, guinea pigs, mice and fish :T :money:

  • Hi All

I'm looking for a bit of advice please. Taylor is 4 and a half months old now, and his routine has just gone out of the window
He used to have a lovely routine, and would go to bed at about 8 o'clock, have a dreamfeed at 11 and then sleep until about half 6. He used to have 3 naps in the day too, at 7:30am for about an hour, 11am for about an hour and a half, and 4pm for about an hour.
These days he goes to bed at about 6/half past. Wakes at 11 for a feed, then 2, then 5, then 6. Sometimes he'll go back to sleep until about 8, but other times I get up with him at 6. He won't sleep in the day anymore unless I take him for a walk in his pram, or a drive in the car.
I can't get anything done in the day anymore as he won't sleep for longer than 10 mins.
I think part of the problem may be that when I breastfeed him he goes really sleepy, and I tend to try and let him sleep so I can get a couple of jobs done for 10 mins. This is the only thing I can think of that has changed. That and h fact that he now goes to bed earlier.
    Any ideas anyone?
I've started giving him a bit of food at lunchtime now, as he'd started grabbing at my food. It doesn't seem to be making a difference to his sleep, although it's probably too early to tell as have only started this in the last few days.

    Sorry this is so long.

please forgive me if you have already read my other post on the family board but i thought i would repost on here.

just bought a second hand loola of ebay (paid cash:mad: ). on testing it out at home it seems very wobbly, the top bars move a lot and the actual seat can be moved back and forwards slightly. is this normal, if it is then i am happy, but obviuosly i don't want to put my baby in something dangerous that is going to fall apart. obviously i am annoyed at myself (and OH who wouldn't let me buy new). Any advice would be great, thanks.
    now mum of 4!!!

    Hi yorkshirechick

This is probably not what you want to hear so do ignore but I think you just need to ride it out... I found months 4-6 a real struggle to be honest, all predictability went out of the window and any routine we had was completely lost. It is only now at 7 months that things are starting to fall into place again. So my advice is to follow your DSs lead, sod the housework, and let him find his natural rhythm again.

I was walking Elliot twice or three times a day just so he'd nap, feeding him every two hours or 90 minutes around the clock, and it wasn't easy... but it doesn't last - everything is Just A Phase.

I echo this, I was pulling my hair out a few weeks ago, as I couldn't seem to get anything done. DD would nap for 10 mins ... and then the feeding / playing cycle would begin again.

However, in the last 10 days she seems to have turned the corner (now 6.5m) and she is sleeping more in the day. Nights seem a bit hit and miss, and I am BF too but this stage does pass ... (though it might be a good few weeks long  )

3kids - Unfortunately I have no idea, but why not ask the seller ... neg feedback might be all the incentive you need, and frankly if I sold something and someone wasn't sure about it, I would go out of my way to make them feel reassured.

And I know this is too late, but for any ebay buyers my suggestion is pop yourself down to a mothercare (or other baby store OR **hijack** another mum and baby) and try the pram for a bit. Nothing like a conversation starter with another mum ...

I am looking at a maclaren techno XT and we tried one in mothercare yesterday, and I have asked two other mums and so far no complaints (now don't all come along and burst my bubble by telling me stuff to put me off OR bidding like mad on ebay :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: )

3kids - I'd email the seller, say you are NOT happy and you want a refund, simple as that. I sold my pram on ebay and offered the buyer time to try it out etc but they were in a hurry so took it and left. If they'd had a problem I would've taken the pram back and refunded them in a flash so hopefully your seller is <ahem> as great as me :D but really don't just put up with it, it does sound a bit dodgy.

zoomy - there should be a term for that phase of 4-6 months - 'the bit where you regret conception' maybe? it was HARD. But yes you do turn the corner and touch wood we all get a lot more sleep now. Not 12 hours solid, or even 10 or 8... but maybe 6.

I've cursed it all by typing it out loud now!

izoomzoom, I'm in that stage at the moment. DS was just getting settled into routine then what with hot weather, weaning, teething etc things have now gone out the window. One night its sleep through 9-6 another its 9-3 and then last night it was up every hour on either sofa or bed ... got so down this morning through lack of sleep and nearly lost it.. thank goodness for pillows ! then when I gave in and just got up LO sat quite happily in bouncer and next to me on sofa while I had my breakfast for about an hour!!

Trouble with me is that I work 2 days at home and cant seem to get much work done at all, lucky I have understanding boss....Am also find it difficult competing with the nursery for home made food.. easy at tea time but lunch is hard sometimes to do unless its sunday roast - any tips ?
Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.

HM food - easy! get a slow cooker! Have a look at the OS board there is a LONG recipe thread for slow cookers.

I have started making meals bigger so i have leftovers to freeze either for another family meal or single portions for when I am on maternity leave.

i felt SO rough for the first 3 months or so of this pregnancy I would rather sleepless nights over that any day! This here is no. 4 so I know what i am letting myself in for
