have started LO on solids, just purees and baby rice as nursery have suggested that he is ready. Last night he had carrot and sweettcorn and loved it and as you can imagine it went everywhere..I put the bib/top etc in soak overnight and have washed it this morning on 30 deg with fairy and stain remover but its still there, albeit faded... any suggestions.. he's moving on to next size of clothes so not too bothered about old ones but want to be prepared for next lot of stains..

The only thing that I have really had success with for stain removal is Vanish, but only the one that is like a bar of soap. Apply very liberally, get it quite moist, and then really rub in. Then leave for 10 minutes before you wash it. Gets virtually everything out - even the usually horribly stubborn tomato based ones.

Oh and I'm afraid the Turning Down to 30 campaign may be fine for normally soiled clothing, but in my experience it does nothing for baby stains! :p All the kids stuff gets done at 40 in our house.

Can anyone out there tell me where I can buy WHOLE milk powder? I'm on a mission for someone.

Also a life jacket for a 1-2 year old?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, agree with every word and love the Vanish bars as well. :)

Presumably you want whole milk powder for a 1-2 year old? I imagine your best option is probably powdered formula. I haven't checked but force4 or compass24 may do lifejackets for little ones?

We use one of those all over aprons from mothercare and a turn up bib which is generally quite effective at minimising food contact with clothing (except for when OH decided to give her banana with a tiny cloth bib because he didn't know it stains  ). I did manage to remove the banana stain though and OH learnt his lesson. The way I got rid of the stain was:
    1. soak in soapy water
    2. rinse with cold water
    3. rub in bicarbonate of soda with an old toothbrush
    4. spray on some vinegar so it fizzes and rub in again with old toothbrush
    5. rinse again
    6. rub with stain removal soap
    7. rinse again
    8. pour on bleach and the stains disappeared like magic
Obviously you can't use bleach on colours so it would only work for white clothes. I don't know which steps were essential but I don't think it works if you miss out the stain removal soap and if you try just bleach it turns the stains red. It also doesn't seem to work once the things been through the wash.

Sunlight is good for nappy stains so that might help too?

Actually, very recently I tried neat bleach directly (without doing any of the other steps Susan) and had success, on a white top. I put a dab of normal household bleach on a bit of kitchen roll first and then just rubbed it gently into the stain and it did disappear. It was a really old stain that had been washed loads, Vanish couldn't sort it as it was such an old stain, so it was a bit of a case of sh*t or bust - the stain was too noticeable so if the bleached damaged it, then it was only fit for the bin anyway.

I then tried it on an old foundation stain on a white cotton shirt of mine, but didn't work for that. Guess it depends on the fabric.

Didn't get any problem with either stain turning red though

The dried milk you can get at the supermarket is always skimmed.

Perhaps it isn't possible to dry whole milk effectively because of the fat content??

It would be useful to have a tin of dried full fat milk in the cupboard for those emergencies when you run out of the real Mccoy.

Like the other day when the full fat milk that was still a couple of days before use by date was already on the turn - and I didn't notice the curdles until Izzy was 2/3 of the way through her bottle. Terrible mum I am!!!!

For stain removal i swear by washing as soon as possible with some washing up liquid, and then a soak in some oxy action before washing as normal. We have had loads of light coloured clothes wrecked here, mainly at nursery where they don't do things like roll up white sleeves so they don't get trailed through spaghetti sauce etc etc.

breastfeeding in public, i did it loads with DS. In the car, in mothercare (lounge great for comfy chair and magazine to read) loads in front of in-laws. It was strangely my parents who had the most upset by it, and my sisters got really stressed when i did it in a woolies cafe with them, and made a shield for me by parking a buggy in front of me. I wasn't bothered when the alternative was sitting in the baby change room with 3 overflowing bins of stinky nappies. Much nicer to sit at a table with a piece of cake and a drink. Strange how some people get more stressed than others. The only time i wouldn't do it last time was at work, as my department at the time was very male orientated, and one in particular was very body function obsessed, and would have been intrigued at how to latch on etc. I remember when i was pregnant he asked me to show him on the skeleton we have where the baby came out. (Not a pervert in any way, as he was gay, just very interested.) Downside to being a science teacher i suppose.

1 week to my due date here, i am getting very impatient of waiting. DS is at nursery today, so i should be resting or something, but i am catching up on washing, and online banking/shopping, and did half an hour of weeding in the garden. Also went into work today, and made sure we had some petrol in my car so DH can use it for the hospital visits. I don't think i could be more organised if i tried. Oh well. It will happen when it happens now.

Sorry I mustn't have been clear - it was just banana I used that method for. Anything else I just rub with fairy soap ASAP and wash in the bath as normal.

Oh yes, forgot about washing up liquid - I find that a godsend for oily marks - so usually DH's clothes, who possibly chucks more food down himself than the kids :rolleyes:

Not long now Michelle, you will be disappearing from MSE any day now, so I'll say Good Luck, hope it all goes well, how exciting to be going through all that again :D
