Tsstss7 - we're probably going to go with a savings rather than the shares one. Been burnt with shares before so thats the only reason

Right, now for the sentimental bit. Going to have a bit of a sort out this weekend of LO's clothes etc as he is nearly onto the next size...Having another baby aside, how much stuff have you been/ are you keeping from Lo's first year etc... I have hospital tags, first size nappy(clean of course) first Christmas cards/ Easter cards/ all present tags etc but what about clothes etc ? Dont want to keep everything but feel like ought to keep something.
Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.

I'm keeping two newborn vests and two newborn babygrows, hospital tags, birth cards, little samples of the wrapping paper from presents when she was born. Have also made foot/hand prints at various intervals (although not recently) and have been meaning to make some hand/foot casts before she's one for months. Also have loads of photos/video clips which I want to make into a DVD but may ask BIL to do that as he has more time and does it with his own pics/video clips all the time so can probably do a better job than me and get it done before she turns eighteen.

Fac, he sooo cute. Love the chair ;). I didn't notice the hair before Snaggles pointed it out! It's so light. Is he eating purees at the same time? I don't really give J big food and when I did give him a cooked green bean my SIL told me off (no, really) because he bit a bit off .

tsstss7 - I get grimaced at too, it's very cute how they look like they've been poisoned and then ask for more. I let J lick some of my blackcurrant juice and he looked horrified, shuddered and grabbed for the glass again. So cute.

Gazella77 - great names, both of you. When you do find out what is best, do let us know

Mazcabs - I had a sort out this weekend - which went as far as piling all the stuff in one place... I'll probably keep some of my favourite outfits, but generally I'll just keep all the best stuff in case we get blessed again (though hubby keeps his legs crossed at the prospect :D)

My question for the day is about blackout curtains - even Ebay seems expensive even for the linings - how can I keep the bright sun out of J's bedroom at 4am? Hubby has spotted a correlation between daylight and when he wakes up .

We have a bit of cardboard we cut to the size of the window and put it up before we shut the curtains. It was free :money:

    Well there's Martin's article here!

And it links to a discussion thread, so guessing that should give you a good starting point. I used his recommendation when I did my two, and his top pick is still the same, Britannia.
  • We are working on getting his hair into a quiff a la Morrissey... but it seems to be doing it on it's own really :D I imagine his hair will darken, maybe his eyes too, there is nothing of me in him at all!

Agutka I had to get the chair off ebay because Ikea don't deliver the tray... how crazy is that. But I couldn't part with all that money for the other ones I was lusting after, don't know what came over me really.

I am giving him a bit of puree as well, his interest varies though, so he is not really eating much.

J will be fine with a cooked green bean! Elliot shoved a whole soldier of toast into his mouth this morning, gagged, coughed it up (covered in slime) and promptly started to suck on it again. Gross, but he enjoyed it. Gagging prevents choking and while scary and unpleasant to watch, it is perfectly safe. Just stay away from grapes and anything the size and width of the windpipe! After all they don't have teeth like you and I but stick your finger in their mouth and they can HURT! Elliot hasn't got the dexterity for a teething ring so I become one in the meantime

Gazella, congratulations! And thanks for the reminder about CTF - the voucher has been sat on my coffee table for weeks while I wonder what to do with it. Must sort that out this week. Or next.

HI Mazcabs - aam only going to put the 250 in the shares account and do a seperate ones for both my ds's as I'm not convinced that turning my hard earned cash over to an 18 year old is a great idea...not like you can make them use it for uni or something sensible:D if ds1 is anything like he is now when he gets bigger it'd be spent on 25 wrestling figures or worse - still not into saving my boy!!! (Drives me nuts as then Im expected to pay for holiday money with dad and other things that we agreed his pocket money should cover to begin with!)

I have kept all the birth cards, hospital tags and half his clothes just in case (just the really nice ones - I can sell them if I don't have another or give them to a family member if a niece/nephew appears) Will also keep one or two items of clothes I particularly liked him in when I do get rid of clothes but not too much as it all adds up.......Anything I get rid of I am passing to a pal who is due to have twins in July(am soooo excited - wanted twins myself but on reflection glad it's her not me :p) oh and will keep a lock of hair when I get around to cutting it off - all his newborn hair is dark and his hair is now growing in blond so at the mo he looks like he's had a really good highlight effect done on him)

I had some dark material that I cut up and lined ds1's curtains with that I am using again as I didn't get around to throwing them away. It is very easy to do just cut a square (rectangle etc) a few inches bigger than the curtains all round and fold edges and blanket stitch to edge of curtain. So long as the blackout material you are using is quite closely woven it will block out most of the light. (just so long as your curtains dont have gaps top.sides or bottom that is).

Have to say though that the cardboard idea is pretty good - thanks susan!!

Re Blackout curtains etc, we have a blackout blind from Argos, loads of different colours and sizes ranging from 12 to 20 quid... it works ok for us.

Purplepatch, thanks a lot!!! Indeed Britania looks best and so I will apply for this one and as I lost some money before investing I think for this one I'll go on safe side.

And another question, I wanted to try using re-usable nappies, but I don't want to spend a lot of money and then be disappointed. Do you know of any place giving out some freebies to try out before I commit?

    And here's my Zuzanna:
