Welcome Mel and congratulations on the arrival of Holly.

Has anyone else's baby gone through a phase of strongly objecting to going to bed? Alice absolutely screams every time she is put to bed now (although it usually stops within a couple of minutes of her being left) and getting her into the sleeping bag is like a wrestling match. I'm sure there's nothing wrong as she does stop fairly quickly and one day I tested by saying, "Time for bed," when she was playing happily just before bedtime and she immediately lay on the floor kicking and screaming.

my ds1 was always a nightmare to put to bed so before he was 2 I tended towards no specific bedtime (bad mum in those days I knew no better :D ) I expect you do the bath - story - bed routine already, but you could also try the countdown technique (20 min warning 10 min warning etc) like you do when dragging an awkward one away from the playground/t5oy shop etc.

Also try extending the routine so it feels ultra slow and relaxed (if you don't do already) this helped a bit with ds1 (still not great though and he is 10!)

Izoom - Imogen had a phase of seemingly hating daddy, around the same age if I remember. I'm sure if you stick it out it will pass. She had another one recently when only I would do - not even her Nan, who is normally fave above me

Love the countdown technique for all kinds of things - thanks for that idea tsstss.

[Congratualtions and welcome, my lo was 14 days late - I think I was one of the overdue club from 6 mths ago LOL - was your lo very big too? - mine was nearly 11lb!]

Thanks for everyones replies re sterilising - had a read through one of the many leaflets you end up with and it does seem you can add to during the day and just change solution every 24 hours, bonus!

Holly was 8lb 3oz which I thought was a decent size - 11lb sounds like hard work! Everyone I know who's had a baby recently seems to have gone well overdue, we are wondering if they are getting the dates wrong!

Charlotte does! I normally cuddle her on our bed while she has her milk, then carry her into her room and put her in the sleeping bag in the cot. She's fine going in the bag, but as soon as I say night night and kiss her, she starts crying as she realises I'm going. If I stay in the room and try and calm her, the crying goes on for ages, but if I just walk out, she cries for a minute or so and then goes to sleep.

Glad to hear you found out about the sterilising stuff.

I think I know why there seems to be so many overdue's.

I'm no mathetician, but for the early people you get all their babys being born from as early as 24 weeks right up to 40 weeks, so 16 weeks worth of early babies, averages out, in theory against say 3 weeks of late babies.

    Does that make sense ?

When I was pg I was most interested in this, and started this poll - perhaps you would like to add yourself if (it does allow you to put in all your babies, as long as you do it the first time - not try and come and add 'extra' babies later on)

Hope your son is feeling better soon izoom.

I went to the doctors today for the fasting blood test, and the results of the other bloods. The nurse said the blood sugar level in the first test was way too high, so they wanted the fasting one to see what my blood sugar levels are like without food inside me. I should get that result back on Friday.

She said high blood sugar ties in with my symptoms, but until they get the results of the fasting test, they can't say for definite why I feel unwell.

Eek! 11lb?? Tom is three months old on Friday (where has the time gone??) and still doesn't weigh that! I can't imagine giving birth to him at the size he is now...ouch!

Just a quick query... now that he's holding his head up pretty well, when can he start going in his door bouncer? He loves to stand on our knees and bounce so my Mam suggested the bouncer but I don't want to damage him

    Any ideas??
  • Hi Chocaholic :) I started using the door bouncer at about 3 months - try him for a few minutes and see how his head/neck control is - you'll know if it's a bit soon.
