I've got some time off :D

Instead of getting chocolate for Easter, my Mam bought me tickets to the match today. I love footy and I'm dead excited as I don't get to go often.

Off to a wedding reception this evening. Mam is having Charlotte this afternoon and then I'm dropping the boys off there after the football and she's keeping them all overnight. I'll get a lie in tomorrow - whooo :j

I'll get all the floors washed in the morning before they come back. It's much easier washing floors when they're not here to walk all over them before they dry.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Sarah - I chose not to have any tests ( just the normal scan) as I wouldn't have changed the outcome - my midwife said unless I would have a amnio then dont bother with the triple test as the results were so unpredictable ( I'm 34) anyway baby Ruby was born perfectly healthy just over 2 weeks ago:j Quick question for any breastfeeding experts (from a total novice) Ruby's nappies have been really green for a few days now and I have sussed out it was because of her taking too much foremilk ( being really hungry all the time) Any idea how long it will take for them to return to yellow now I'm feeding her longer on each breast???

However I have read that green poo is very much on the scale of 'normal' and you shouldn't worry - it's when there is no poo that there is a problem.

The difference between hindmilk and foremilk isn't clear-cut but feeding for longer on each side will probably see a return to yellow poo within a day or two (in my experience)

    More on that here http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/foremilk-hindmilk.html
  • I had all the tests when I was pregnant, but I wouldn't if there is a next time (not likely) - I didn't give it much thought to be honest and assumed it was just something you do. There was no way I would have terminated though except in the case of a severe chromosonal disorder - not for downs or anything though.

Becles, I am pleased to read you're having a day to yourself, hope you have a great time :)

I BF and noticed Samantha's nappies were green for a couple of weeks. I was chatting to another BF mum and she said that green poo was a major no no. I promtly did a google, got myself all worked up and concluded that she must have a food allergy and as I was the source of her food I would have to start eliminating things from my diet to find out what the culprit was.  . Where do I start ?

Made a call to my MW too, and she told me to relax - green poo is quite common. Then I noticed it started to change back to yellow again - all within a few days.

My youngest (breastfed) had green nappies for months (!) The HV's advice wasn't very helpful (too much foremilk etc etc.) I tried different things and eliminating different foods without any success really.

He put on the right amount of weight and was a very contented baby nonetheless and one day, for no reason, he started producing yellow poos again! :D Basically, don't worry too much so long as Ruby is gaining weight, feeding well and generally settled. (There are lots of other things to stress about with babies!) :D

(PS: A belated congrats on baby Ruby and welcome to the Parent Club!)

I am so tired and fed up today.

The only one sleeping through the night at the moment is Adam.
For the past 4 nights DS1 has been shouting that there are noises in his room, DH and myself have stayed in there with him and we can't hear anything. At first he said he didn't know what they sounded like but now says that the noises sound like pingu sliding on snow. He's always asleep when he hears these noises and they wake him up. He gets scared at any little noise at the moment and won't be in a room on his own. We've asked him if he's scared while he's at school and he's says he's not, it's just of a night time that these noises appear.

We had him in with us last night and he didn't wake up. There are no toys in his room with the batteries left in them so it's not that, it's not the tick-tock of his clock, it's none of the pictures/posters coming off the walls.

I've asked him if his ears hurt when he hears the noises or if he gets a headache and he says not, i was thinking it might have been an ear infection or something but going to get him in at the doctors on Monday to see if he can shed some light on it, until then he will be in our bed as 4 nights without sleep and i'm tearing my hair out and starting to get snappy, which isn't fair on anyone.

    Waffle over :D

Tom had green nappies for about a week and a half from 2 weeks old and I was quite worried as my other two children had only ever had the expected yellow nappies. Then they just turned back to yellow without me doing anything different and they've been fine ever since!

Suzukibabe - that sounds hard work, hope it resolves soon.

Green nappies - Alice had green bits early on but not completely green poos. With most things if it's the only thing "wrong" it generally isn't a problem but if there's other things too then it can be signs of problems. If in doubt, I usually phone NHS direct about things. (0845 46 47)

Tests - if we wanted the Down's syndrome thing we had to phone a special number to arrange it by a certain number of weeks. Our midwife gave us the information and wrote "undecided" on the booking form. She never asked us whether we were going to have it. Neither she or the consultant seemed to think anything of the fact we didn't have it - they both wrote it down in my notes when they saw me in the smae maner that they wrote oll the other stuff down. There are various other tests I had (such as glucose tolerance tests) which I will refuse next time as I am much better informed now than I was then but really it is up to you what you have, not them.

I agree that the any tests are a very personal decision, but the GTT showed I had gestational diabetes even though I had no symptoms, and my midwife didn't think I needed it. My consultant though feels any woman with PCOS should be tested, which is why I had it.
Thankfully I kept my blood sugars under control, and DS was born with no problems at 7lb 5oz. The gestational diabetes is also the reason I ended up with a section at due date + 2 days, as there can be problems with the placenta degrading in late pregnancy with the diabetes.
    The IVF worked;DS born 2006.

Just to clarify I'm not saying that the GTT is not useful for anybody but for me it was completely pointless. I did have symptoms (chronic thirst from about three months) and came out with a high result so was tested again and got the same result so they told me to go on a "low sugar" diet. I tried to discuss with them the fact the they were telling me to carry on eating the same way I already was but they could only give me stock answers so weren't able to give me any help. (Presumably either they didn't really know much or else they didn't believe it was my normal diet but either way they weren't any help.) In the end I just went even more extreme than I already was at avoiding sugar which helped a little and that is what I would do in a future pregnancy. There are risks involved in doing the GTT as fasting and then taking an abnormally large dose of glucose puts the system under abnormal stress which can trigger type 2 diabetes (which runs in my family). I also read about a study where they compared outcomes of births when GD was treated and untreated and the outcomes were the same. I can't find that article off hand but this is a related one I read.
