    Hi all

Baby Holly arrived 15 days late on the early hours of Tuesday 8th April after being induced/ventouse - she really didn't want to come out!

I wondered if anyone could answer me a question re chemical sterilisation. I have been using milton tablets to sterilise my bottles etc and it says once they have been in the solution 15 minutes they are sterile but can be left in for 24 hours. My question is within that 24 hours can more bottles be added to the solution and still become sterile or would I have to empty the solution and start again with a new tablet??

    Thanks for any help!

Congratulations on the arrival of baby Holly, and welcome aboard the thread

Sorry I can't answer your question though, as we have have a steam steriliser.

Hi melg1973, congratulations on birth of Holly

I use Milton tablets as well as a steam steriliser. We put the bottle teats and dummies in the Milton solution as found that the teats went a funny colour in the steam steriliser. I make up the solution once a day and do add teats etc at various times during the day.. not sure if you should but we have had no problems doing it. I have added bottles into the solution during the 24 hours when on holiday rather than taking the steam one...

    hope that helps.

Hi & welcome all new parents

Re sterilising - we used tablets on hols (Asda version way cheaper if I remember right) and just changed the water & tablets every day. I think we saved all of the bottles til the end of the day, did one big wash-up, then sterilised them all at once. I suppose you could do this if you were worried?

I need some advice on keeping LO amused in the car please. She's nearly 16 months now (HOW time flies!) and we have some long journeys to be doing. I'm looking for something she can't chuck into the footwell for me to rescue every 5 mins, so pref something which attaches to her car seat or to the seat in front. Any suggestions of things you've got?

We've been for a walk and then lunch with my parents today. Sooooo proud of how good Imogen was at the pub. She sat in her highchair eating bits of veg off a side plate (donated from our plates) and was good as gold. She wanted to try the pepper sauce off one of the steaks and liked it so much she proceeded to dunk all of her food into it. She even ate with a normal-sized fork (cos we hadn't packed one for her!). She was so polite, saying "pease" and "ta" at the right places. And was very emphatic about telling my step-dad something - we just aren't sure what! :rotfl: :rotfl:

(P.S. - going to be moving Imogen into a bed at some point soon. I'm know most people will think it's far too early, but she's so tall the cot side only seems to come to just above her waist and she's just getting into climbing... Just preparing by getting some safety things to secure the drawers and doors that will inevitably fascinate her once she is 'free'. Bought a brand new baby gate off ebay tonight for £10.20 (inc postage) to put across her doorway :money: Michelle - let me know how you get on!)

Assuming you have migrated from the pregnancy club ? ... it seems it has reared its head up as the 'over due club' again. About six months ago, when I was there it seemed to be one overdue after the other :rotfl: :rotfl: .

Congrats, and welcome, and sorry only ever used a steam sterliser.

Becles, I think the sick bay sign has moved to my house. I was ill Thursday - won't go into tmi but had to get DH home in the afternoon as I didn't even have the strength to hold Samantha whilst feeding her. Friday I was weak, but up and about but early hours of Saturday, DS1 started same non-sense, DH got it, mildly, last night , and DS2 seems to have had a few symptoms this evening too. Seems to have escaped Samantha, though she did get a bit dehydrated for a bit.

Anyhow Samantha seems to have either taken an adversion to her dad :o (at times) or 'separation anxiety' has started. I popped out yesterday for 45 mins, her all nicely fed before I went, to arrive home to a screaming screaming screaming baby. One second back in my arms and she instantly stopped. Her dad was a little  . But then she has gone on to do this to lesser degrees another 2 times this weekend  . I thought separation anxiety started around 8/9 months ?

It is lovely to be so needed, but I was planning on starting to leave her with her childminder for an hour a week, whilst I volunteered at the school, but now I am starting to worry that she'll be like this with the CM too ????

    Hi Melg

Congratualtions and welcome, my lo was 14 days late - I think I was one of the overdue club from 6 mths ago LOL - was your lo very big too? - mine was nearly 11lb!

To answer your question - my cousin used sterilizing fluid (she found steamer too much) and it was for that very reason as she said you can add and take away from it as required - I think she made up a new lot each day and rinced with freshly boiled water when using.

izoom - my lo has become very attached to me also (they are about the same age ) - daddy doesn't appreciate it but it's nice to be needed even if maybe a touch wearing!

A first for us today - Archie held his arms out for me! Has done this unconvincingly before but today was unmistaken - made my heart melt 'specially as he has a cold and is feeling poorly so looks ultra cute.

Lu T - I had something for the car when the boys were little. It was like a tray that went across their knees. It had a steering wheel, indicator sticks and other car related stuff on and it made loads of noises. Both the boys loved that. I don't have it anymore but if you look in a big toy shop you might find something similar.

Sorry to hear you have been poorly izoom - hope you all feel better soon.

Charlotte is going through a clingy phase. She had a bit of cold a couple of weeks ago. When I dropped her off at my Mam's she was crying and didn't want me to put her down. I had to go to work though, and I was only gone a couple of hours, but I felt awful leaving her. Mam said she distracted her with toys after I'd gone, then she was fine. She seems more clingy when she's under the weather or tired.

She woke up early from her nap yesterday and was clingy. I was trying to make a lasagne and she kept escaping from the sitting room and trying to climb up my trouser legs! She got sick of that game when she came behind me quietly and I didn't know she was there and trod on her fingers :o Luckily I had soft slippers on, so harm done.

Welcome Mel and congratulations on the arrival of Holly.

Has anyone else's baby gone through a phase of strongly objecting to going to bed? Alice absolutely screams every time she is put to bed now (although it usually stops within a couple of minutes of her being left) and getting her into the sleeping bag is like a wrestling match. I'm sure there's nothing wrong as she does stop fairly quickly and one day I tested by saying, "Time for bed," when she was playing happily just before bedtime and she immediately lay on the floor kicking and screaming.

Yes, Izzy had a phase of doing that. It didn't last long once I realised that going in to her was making the situation worse. We just used to sit it out and wait for the screaming to stop. It isn't fun, but it was the only way for us.

She goes to bed beautifully now as long as she has Lady (from Lady and the Tramp) and one of her In the Night Garden books. You don't even have to read it to her, just as long as she has it in the cot with her! Makes life a bit awkward as I usually have to try to fish it out from underneath her without waking her up :rotfl:
