Fingers X'd you can still go on your hols, PP!
Hope DS gets better soon, Michelle. Poor little thing!
Dormouse, thanks for the advice re nappies. I collected them from Lidl at the weekend and have been using them at daytime without any problems! Might go and buy M&B again to get another coupon...
Fac, thanks for posting those recipes. I have been veggie for 16 years although I hardly cook as thats DH's job! However, as we are making most of Poppy's foods from stratch I do hope to get more involved in the kitchen and will try a few out. I actually made lentil soup yestersday....go me!
Hi MKF. Welcome to this thread! You will find lots of support on here xxx
Oh, and thank you to whoever it was that recommended the red crab toy from ELC a while back. We bought it at the weekend as we had a gift voucher and a 20% off code....don't know who finds it more fun, Poppy or DH!

Nice to meet you Nic. This thread is lovely when you are feeling down. Please join in the conversation, especially if you feel lonely during the day.
It was probably me who mentioned the red crab from ELC. Charlotte got on for Christmas and she loves it.
She's being naughty at the moment! She's got plenty of toys in the sitting room, but she prefers being in the utility room stealing toys from the dog! I snapped this on my phone - sorry the quality isn't very good.
My roller coaster health ride continues! I saw my regular dentist yesterday as the infection has come back in my problem tooth and I've been in pain again. He's given me yet more antibiotics to settle it back down.
My doctors rang this morning to say that my blood tests were back and they were abnormal. She couldn't tell me anymore than that as it was just the receptionist who called. I have to go back on Tuesday and the nurse will explain all and take some fasting blood tests. I have to have nothing but water for 12 hours before that one, but luckily I got a 9.30am appointment so it's not too bad!
Then I got a letter from the dental specialist today which said to ring for an appointment. Initially she said they had no appointments until August. I explained the problems I have been having and asked if I could be seen sooner as I'm sick of the pain and worried about taking so many antibiotics and painkillers. She had a look through the appointment book and found a cancellation for Monday. Pleased with that as I want it out before my maternity certificate runs out in May, and I really want it out before our holidays as I don't want to be poorly or on antibiotics when there is all inclusive drinking to be doneHere I go again on my own....0 -
hello Nic. This 1st bit is the hard bit. Once you prove to yourself you can cope, you will do great, and you will be able to start getting out a bit and meeting other mums. I found the 1st 3 months really depressing and not at all like i imagined. I am hoping this time that having DS already, at least i will have someone to talk to during the long lonely day.
becles well done on getting that cancellation. Toothache has to be one of the worst things ever. I was at the dentist yesterday and mentioned i had a chipped tooth. Didn't make me overly confident when the 'foreign' dentist looked at a completely different tooth to the one i showed him and said it was fine. Like you, i don't want toothache and not be able to do anything about it, dentist situation is hopeless at the moment. That is yet another lovely piccie of Charlotte - It's odd isn't it how they prefer the pet toys. I'#ve just had to bin one of the cat balls because it was really heavy, and DS kept getting it and throwing it and i was worried about concussion, and chipping the laminate floor. Monkeys eh?
DS thankfully seems better today, although he was up in the night crying, and it took a while to settle him. I think he was cold, and wanted a bit of reassurance.Getting me into practice though for the night feeds, as we haven't had a disturbed night sincecan't remember.
I've kept him home from nursery today anyway so no illness tomorrow for the wedding hopefully.
Well girls - made a start with the baby stuff today. I got DH to get the boxes of baby clothes out the loft last night. The newborn stuff is absolutely tiny, and i find it hard to believe that DS wore this only 18 months ago. Just goes to show how much they grow. I've washed it all today and tried to get DS to help me so he is a bit more prepared for the new baby. Don't know what he understands, but it can't hurt, and he likes helping load the washing machine anyway.
0-3 month stuff once this lot has dried on the airers, as well as keeping up with all of our washing.

Welcome Nic. Thanks for posting and introducing yourself. Have you asked your HV about any 1st time mums or BF support groups you can go to? I made all of my mummy friends in these groups. We have a Sure Start centre nearby which runs some including some stay & play (for small babies read 'stay & chat'!). We also have a place called the One Stop Shop which is a couple of rooms at the local high school. They also do a programme of activities - most of which are free or only £1 per session.
And as Michelle says, once you get confident going out and about you will feel much better. It's like suddenly you go "actually, this isn't that hard! Most of the time I know what my baby wants & I haven't broken her yet!"
Feel free to post whenever and join in as much or as little as you want. No question's too silly here!MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
Am I the only mum who has refused ALL screening tests (Not scans though) in pregnancy with all my pregnancies. I have 3 kids and no. 4 on the way. for some reason the midwives think i am a bit odd not to have the tests. the main reason people have the downs screening is to abort if its high risk/positive, which I would not do anyway.
I am in my 16th week and have already been pestered once this week and probably again on Monday when i have my checkup with the midwife.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Sarah - I chose not to have any tests ( just the normal scan) as I wouldn't have changed the outcome - my midwife said unless I would have a amnio then dont bother with the triple test as the results were so unpredictable ( I'm 34) anyway baby Ruby was born perfectly healthy just over 2 weeks ago:j Quick question for any breastfeeding experts (from a total novice) Ruby's nappies have been really green for a few days now and I have sussed out it was because of her taking too much foremilk ( being really hungry all the time) Any idea how long it will take for them to return to yellow now I'm feeding her longer on each breast???19.6.10 Weight loss 6lb0

Forgot to ask, does anyone use a Hipseat? I'm thinking of getting one, and have seen good feedback. My little angel is so blooming heavy at 24lb that I need some help lugging him around!
Hoping to grab a bargain on Ebay, although they do fetch high prices there.
Hi Dormouse,
I've got a Hipseat, Katie it loves it, she does the weekly shop with me using it, she has so much more fun as she can see so much
more, no back ache either.
I bought it mainly for my mum as she had polio as a child and doesn't have much strength in one arm so struggles to pick and carry DD.
Sarahsaver: I didn't bother with any tests apart from scans either, it didn't want to be in the position of having to make a decision about a pregnancy that I thought would never happen.
Quick Update: DD climbs stairs like a mini moutaineer! It now forms part of her bedtime routine! She's really fast too.
I haven't been very MSE this week, I gave in and bought a new pushchair (ICandy Cherry) as DD had conjunctivitis in both eyes recently and I feel being in a forward facing position in her pushchair doesn't help. I also had to purchase a new breast pump as my
as my friend who loaned me hers has had her baby now and needs it back, neither of us are ready to drop feeds.
DD also proved that she hasn't developed bottle preference with me being back at work, I came home yesterday and she was half way through a bottle of EBM, as soon as she saw me she spat it out and demanded a feed of me.
I can't believe this time last year I was a day away from my due date and 3 days away from having my baby, yep she's one on Monday!! Where has the year gone.

I didn't have any of the screening tests with my 3.
Like you if the baby was Downs, I couldn't have gone through with an abortion. Therefore in my mind it was pointless having the tests as I wouldn't have acted on a positive result. Here I go again on my own....0 -

No screening here other than 20 week scan with both my pregnancies as I knew I wouldn't abort.
With DD2 when I was 35, there was a bit of an anomaly that showed up on the 20 week scan (mildly echogenic bowel which can be a marker for Downs). I went for a follow up scan with the consultant and she gave it the ok, but marked my notes to say that I had rejected all screening. They really know how to make you worry
I must say that my mw was totally supportive of my choice and agreed it wasn't worth doing the screening unless you would want to abort. She also said that the triple results were very likely to come back as needing an amnio for someone of my age, so that kind of made my mind up.0
