midwife coming back later in the week and i know i will just smile and say that things are good cos if i don't i will just roar my eyes out and she will think that i am some mad woman:confused:. does anybody know that when you go for your 8 week check do you see the dr? what happens at the check as i can't remember

Congrats 3Kids. BF is tiring in itself anyway, if you get a spare minute sit down and rest. The MW won't think you're a mad woman, just a new mum with a lot on her plate.

At your 8 week check, baby is weighed, a physical check of legs etc, at my GP's they also checked DD's eyes by swinging a ball above her head and whether she could pick her head up when she was on her front. Mum also sees a doctor, I was asked about contraception and did I want my scar checking (c-section), I refused as I'd had enough of being poked and prodded. Mum also completes a post-natal depression questionnaire.

Some news on Katie too: She WALKS!!! DH and I had her walking between us on Saturday, about 6 or 7 steps she looks so funny as she isn't very tall, she isn't brave enough to set off for herself yet, but it is only a matter of time. I've put up the safety gates in anticipation.

Ours weren't nearly as thorough as that. Dr checked Alices hips and asked us a few things and then told us about the vaccinations. For mine, the nurse asked if I needed my episiotomy stiches checking and the doctor asked if my lochia had stopped and if I'd had a period yet and felt to check my womb had contracted.

3kids I don't think you need worry about the midwife thinking you're mad - I'm sure she's seen it all before. I remember being in a state when we had our second MW visit because I was finding breastfeeding really difficult.

HI everyone, my new arrival, a boy, is 12 days old and although i have posted on here before, i thought i would re-introduce myself now he is here.

any advice on how to stop little boys soaking wee up their backs in the cot at night. feeding constantly at night and changing his clothes several times is driving me mad.
Congratulations on the birth of your little boy! :T :j

I remember we went through a stage early on when every nappy was soaking in the morning, even with a nappy change in the middle of the night. It doesn't help when they feed a lot at night, so I don't think there's an awful lot you can do than try other brands maybe (I found Huggies leaked more than others).

I can fully sympathise, I bet it's hard work with 4 kids (I find it hard with 2 sometimes!). It will slowly get easier though. :grouphug:

Thanks js_other_half - unfortunately i don't think that it is the new arrival that is making my eldest awkward. it is probably her age - she just can't say anything nice, refuses to do anything to help or even pick up after herself, thinks the world revolves around her, answers back - i could go on, basically stroppy teenager at 11!

My boys go through phases like that. They are 9 and 11 years old. The 9 year old is currently going through a stroppy phase as he's got a project to do for homework that he doesn't want to do. My husband sent him to the shop for a tin of beans earlier and gave him a £2 coin. He came back with a few coppers change. Hubby questioned this and he said he must have lost a £1 coin on the way home. Hubby checked his pockets and they were loaded with sweets  He got told off for that, and then we had the "nobody cares for me" drama routine

Meanwhile the 11 year old spent all evening sucking up to me, telling me how pretty I look (in saggy jogging bottoms and an oversized t-shirt?!), and what a good Mammy I am

I'm going to the doctors in the morning to have a chat about how I feel, and for a general check up due to these recurrent dental infections. I've finished the antibiotics and it's throbbing again, but I missed the emergency appointments at the dentist this morning, so I'll have to try again tomorrow.

I got weighed this morning and I've lost half a stone in 3 weeks, so that put a smile on my face.
Here I go again on my own....

Hiya - this might be a stupid question, but are you making sure his...um....widgy (sorry, penis just doesn't sound right for a tiny baby :o) is pointing upwards* in his nappy? It might seem really obvious but we didn't know they were supposed to, and we used to end up with wee up Ryan's back until we realised.

Please do speak up if you are feeling down though - post natal depression is SO common and very treatable, so you really don't need to suffer. You are coping with 4 children, so you should give yourself a lot of credit for coping as well as you are.

*Edit - I meant DOWNWARDS, sorry!!!

Pointing upwards? I've always made sure it's pointing downwards with my two little guys...

That's tickled me. Glad I've got girlies and none of those tricky widgies to deal with !!
