I'm going to start "blogging" which might help me make sense of things and keep me motivated. At the minute I get up and have plans for the day, and then I feel down and just end up faffing around doing nothing all day, then come the evening, I hate myself for wasting a day.

I know that feeling only too well! I love being at home full-time but miss the sense of structure and urgency that a job provides and end up getting very little done! :o

    And me. :o

And being addicted to various forums doesn't help with efficient use of time... although it's good for my mental well-being :D :j :T (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)

Waitrose even exchanged a tin of first stage formula for second stage when hubby bought the wrong one, no receipt then either. They said that they would have to destroy the tin I returned as they are not allowed to sell returns in case of tampering. But they were very helpful and nice about it.

So if you've got a Waitrose near you... ;)
Wow, that's excellent service from Waitrose! :T (Sadly my nearest one is like 80 miles away  )

But I've exchanged nappies at Boots before, without a receipt, no problem. I think Morrisons are supposed to do it too, at least that what they told me whhen I was mystery shopping them, but I haven't actually done it there.

    Hi all

Thanks for asking about me, I'm really touched! Holiday it was, just got back from 3 weeks in Tenerife (treat before going to back to the office from my mat leave) so have been trying to catch up with everything. Sorry this is gonna be a long one!

Congrats Bay - hope you're settling into a new routine. Post some pics of Molly soon (or tell me if I've missed them - 30-odd pages is taking time!!)

Welcome all newbies, especially the dads and dads-to-be. Nice to have some of the other perspective - that's why I called it the MSE Parents' Club!! Please stick around and put your oar in when necessary!

We've had a fab time away and Imogen has had some kind of development spurt, coming out with 1-4 new words EVERY DAY and even her first sentence - which I missed. It was "Yes, yes, Daddy, dig dig" as OH walked her past the beach. He felt awful as had no stuff with him to take her on it. I said why didn't he just strip her off and let her crawl about - he didn't think of that and was really upset he'd let her down, bless!

She's still resolutely NOT walking though - at nearly 15 months. Can't say I'm in much of a rush as it's currently not too bad keeping an eye on her.

Routine I've seen some of the routine discussions which have gone on while I was away. I'm a complete routine advocate and have had to really chill out while we've been away as otherwise we'd have had no life. I was really worried what all of the late nights and lack of routine would do for Imogen's sleeping, esp when we got back and with me going back to the office on Monday. But she's been great :T Slipped straight back into her routine when we arrived home last night, slept til 8am and is currently napping after lunch. I can't tell you how wrecked the routine has been on holiday (she was up til 11pm one night  but didn't sleep in) so I'm amazed it has been so easy. I'll keep my fingers crossed it will continue.

I shared that hoping that it will reassure some of you who, like me, are routine sticklers. Our first family holiday last year when she was 5 months was completely dominated by her bedtime - we only ate out at lunchtime and cooked in the house at night. In hindsight we might have been able to be more adventurous. Ho hum...

On a slightly different topic, I didn't want to start a new thread but can anyone advise me on reusable nappies, I'll get a £50 rebate from my local council but really need to keep costs down, I don't mind if the nappies aren't a birth to potty pack but it would great if they lasted until 6 months or so, but the longer the better. I can buy online and forward the receipt to the council, so £100 (£50 after the rebate) is my limit, thanks in advance for anyone's help.

We use re-usable nappies so hope I can help. We use a 'teddy bear' nappy which is fluffy and dries in a matter of hours - essential as we don't have a drier and we only have 12 nappies (which keeps the cost and storage space needed down). I'd say your budget looks pretty tight, but you may be able to get some 2nd-hand. We started with some 2nd-hand ones and bought some more at around 8 months.

We have some Tots Bots and some Bambineo ones. Both are suitable as birth to potty as they have poppers/velcro. You will need different sized waterproof wraps though.

I'd be tempted to speak to your HV team to see if they know of any 'nappy advocates' in the area. Sometimes there are people (who aren't necessarily selling the nappies) who have a few which you can look/feel and get to see what you think will suit you.

I used www.makesachange.co.uk as they were about the cheapest (at the time) and did free postage. They are in Castleford, Yorks, which is local to me and I was able to go to see them and get my hands on the nappies before commiting to a purchase.

As well as nappies you will need around 4 waterproof wraps, a nappy bucket and a 'stink bag' (or you could use carrier bags). PM me if you want more info. HTH

Just read Becles' 'pumping' story :rotfl: and it reminded me of the other thing I had to tell you.

We got home last night and I took Imogen's trousers and nappy off as she'd emptied a cup of water over herself in the car on the way home from the airport. I put her in the living room with her toys while me and OH brought in bags and went through the post. I was only gone 5 mins but when I went back in I found Imogen reading a book and big pile of poo on the sofa  , with just a couple of bits on the floor.

Now she can't climb on to the sofa, so the only possible explanation is that she pooed then helpfully picked it all up off the floor and put in on the (thankfully, leather) sofa for us to find:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: !!

We tried really hard not to laugh or make a big deal of it as we're going to start introducing the idea of a potty - although not full-blown potty training - as she is now dry for a couple of hours at a time and will answer yes and point to her nappy if you ask whether she has pooed (she's about 80% accurate, which isn't bad I don't think?).

Pleased you had a good holiday Lu T. I'm desperately counting the days down to ours!

I bought a pushchair in Tesco for £14 today. It's basic, but at that price I'm not bothered if it gets bashed on the plane, or the wheels jam because they're full of sand or it gets smeared in sun lotion and ice cream.
Here I go again on my own....

I think the total exhaustion of a new born is driving me insane. I want to move house and I am pushing my husband to do this. I am breastfeeding, up 1/2 the night and constantly feel the onset of panic rising in my chest, yet I am pushing and pushing to get the ball rolling to move.

    I must have PN insanity

Another thing (sorry this is going to be a long one :o). Have any mums who BFed/ are BFing experienced irregular periods? This is TMI, but I got one last month, but so far there is no second one :o  Now before you all say anything, I have done two pg tests and they are very negative (phew!). I have read that this is pretty normal when BFing but I didn't miss any periods with DS1 and just wanted to see if anyone else has had this?

    Hi Dormouse,

DD is 11 months old and I'm period free, she does still feed in the night though.

I also have PCOS which messes with my cycle so I'm not expecting anything until DD stops feeding in the night.

BF does mess with hormones especially if still feeding in the night.
