Yeah we have tried all kinds. Huggies are worse than pampers but its his legs. He is CONSTANTLY and I mean CONSTANTLY moving them. All the time. He wriggles and moves his knees up and down and i think it moves his tail round to the side and thats what does it. (i remember those knees very clearly from when they were dancing about inside my tummy!)
Have you tried the Tesco Superfit ones in the purple pack? I find Huggies and Pampers pretty crap really, get much fewer leaks with Tesco ones. Especially noticed last week when Izzy had her nappy end tummy bug, Tesco nappies coped miles better as was using a mixture of brands depending on where we were at time of bottom explosion :rotfl:0 -
Wow Becles, Charlotte seems to be making massive leaps forward, it seems like only a couple of weeks since you were saying she had learned to crawl! Go Charlotte!! :T
Shelvis, I would really second the recommendation for Tesco nappies. we use the ones in the green packs (I forget the name) and they are BRILLIANT. Never had a single leak with them, and Natasha was a very leaky baby at one point. :A

Do you mind if I ask a quick question??
My little one is 9 weeks old and occasionally has the odd nappy leak in the night. Can I use a waterproof mattress protector under neath the sheet?? Or at this age does he have to have a breathable matress??
Breathable mattress? My moses basket contains a plastic covered cheap wipeable mattress, as does the cot. Don't think 'breathable' applies to either. Do let me know if I'm doing something wrong. Although the girl who sold me the cot mattress in Mothercare did say my baby was likely to die of cot death if I didn't get a more expensive mattress in the long run  .
I found nothing stopped Joseph's leaks in the first few weeks, thankfully he's just outgrown this problem, and I use a mixture of nappies. So I think you should go ahead and protect your matresses, while you play around with the causes.:wall:0 -

Seriously?:mad: What a !!!!!! I hope you reported her. A health visitor said something similar to me when I told her I had Elliot in my bed. It's scaremongering and nasty. ALL mattresses must conform to safety standards, they would hardly be selling them if they were risky. You can pay more for a cot mattress than you can for a not-so-cheap adult mattress - what a market.
I use Sainsbury's nappies in the daytime which are cheap enough and don't seem to leak, and Huggies at night as they're more absorbant. Thinking of moving to reusables but nervous about taking the plunge on that. It's Elliot's mouth leaking I worry about more0 -

She's gone mad over the last 4-5 weeks! If you look back to my posts when she was coming up to 9 months old, I was getting worried as she wasn't sitting up properly. Now she's just turned 10 months and is crawling, getting from sitting to crawling and back again, and wanting to stand up.
Her favourite game at the minute is with a plastic basket. I put all her blocks, rattles etc., in it, and she spends ages taking them all back out and scattering them over the floor.
Having to watch her all the time now though. She's into everything! She got into trouble for pulling a plug out of a socket yesterday, and she keeps climbing on the windowsill and swinging on the blinds (got floorlength windows - not normal ones!).
Regarding the nappy problem - is he coming up to moving into the next size nappy? Whenever Charlotte has been between nappy sizes, I've had leak problems for a couple of weeks. At the minute size 3 nappy's are a bit skimpy on her, but size 4 are a bit big and I've had a few leaks when she does explosive poo's.Here I go again on my own....0 -
Yeah possibly. Size 2 are a bit small (especially huggies which seem to be smaller than pampers) but size 3 are a little big. We have been sticking with size 2 and it's not poo that leaks as he only does 1 a day and its fairly solid and sticky (and usually at about 3pm) its just urine.
I did notice that we had leaks when we were ready to move out of size 1 to be honest.
I bought a waterproof cotbed sheet from mothercare and it just says for use when toilet training. Ideally I would like to use it now (9 weeks) but I can't find any info that says if i can or cant. At the moment when he leaks (every couple of nights) we just mop it up and turn the matress over!!0 -

Re: nappies, I'm another one who loves Tesco's green ones (haven't tried the purple ones yet). I too use a mixture though, and have a stash of Pampers at the moment as they're 1/3 off at Tesco, so same price as T's own, but with extra points if you have points vouchers from the Tesco Baby Fair. :money:
I too think that Huggies are smaller than other nappies, shelvis! We're in a size 4, but will be moving on to 4+ once we run out of 4s. I do have a ginormous 24lb chunk of a baby though
...who is being mega clingy today! I haven't been able to put him down for two seconds this morning without him whingeing his head off. Thank goodness for naptimes or I'd never get any precious MSE time :rotfl:
Another thing (sorry this is going to be a long one). Have any mums who BFed/ are BFing experienced irregular periods? This is TMI, but I got one last month, but so far there is no second one
 Now before you all say anything, I have done two pg tests and they are very negative (phew!). I have read that this is pretty normal when BFing but I didn't miss any periods with DS1 and just wanted to see if anyone else has had this?

That's shocking advice given the fact that there is no evidence that a "more expensive" mattress reduces the risk on cot death.
My wife is 36 weeks pregnant now. I would have posted on the pregnancy club thread but am posting here because it's relevant to the baby after its birth and to your this discussion.
I had planned on buying a "more expensive" mattress for our baby because, even if there is no evidence of a reduced risk, should anything bad happen I would not want to be in the "if only I'd spent more on a mattress" situation and blame myself.
However, my in-laws have just bought a mattress for the cotbed. It's a pretty basic mattress and although I am grateful that they've saved us buying one I think it's one of those essential items that new parents should choose what they think is best for their child. Apart from the usual SIDS prevention tips such as baby sleeping with feet at foot of the bed, no pillow, 18-21 degree etc it is also recommended that the mattress is firm. Therefore I'd like to able to feel the mattress before buying.
I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with the cheaper mattresses or that more expensive ones are any safer - I've looked for evidence online and can't see any. I just feel that I'd be happier myself putting my baby to sleep on a mattress that may reduce risks.0 -

I agree this is shocking advice from Mothercare, talking about putting fear into people, just make sure it's new and there's not a gap of more than four cm around the sides but smaller if possible. Here's there's a good guide for mattress size:

On a slightly different topic, I didn't want to start a new thread but can anyone advise me on reusable nappies, I'll get a £50 rebate from my local council but really need to keep costs down, I don't mind if the nappies aren't a birth to potty pack but it would great if they lasted until 6 months or so, but the longer the better. I can buy online and forward the receipt to the council, so £100 (£50 after the rebate) is my limit, thanks in advance for anyone's help.

When we bought our mattress, we were told the wipe-clean ones were actually safer, because there's not as much chance of the baby burying it's face into it. That's probably why they recommend a firm mattress too.
Its so difficult when there is so much contradictory advice around, because you try and do your best to keep your baby safe, and then it sometimes turns out you have done the wrong thing.
Dormouse, how old is your little boy? Natasha's 10 months and I'm still b/f, and my periods are all over the place. I've only had 3, but they're not even approaching regular. I think there was about 6 weeks between the first two, and then two weeks after the most recent one, I am getting cramps again already.
Time for baby number 3 I think......:rotfl: "I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
