Oh I was going to say as well, I felt like such a bad mother yesterday...

Natasha sometimes goes off for a little wander into the kitchen, and if the cooker isn't on, I just leave her to do it, as there's nothing dangerous in there that she can reach. She normally comes back after a minute or so with something random like a potato in her hand...lol.

Anyway, yesterday I thought 'she's gone quiet in there', so I popped my head in to see what she was up to. She was standing up and her whole top half from her waist upwards was leant in the washing machine. She had her head resting on the washing that was in there waiting to go on, and she was cuddled up to (and chewing!) a dirty sock!!!! _pale_  :o

Another thing (sorry this is going to be a long one :o). Have any mums who BFed/ are BFing experienced irregular periods? This is TMI, but I got one last month, but so far there is no second one :o  Now before you all say anything, I have done two pg tests and they are very negative (phew!). I have read that this is pretty normal when BFing but I didn't miss any periods with DS1 and just wanted to see if anyone else has had this?
I've had three so far and the gaps have been 45 and 41 days (previously varied from 26 to about 40 I think).

I agree this is shocking advice from Mothercare, talking about putting fear into people, just make sure it's new and there's not a gap of more than four cm around the sides but smaller if possible. Here's there's a good guide for mattress size:

On a slightly different topic, I didn't want to start a new thread but can anyone advise me on reusable nappies, I'll get a £50 rebate from my local council but really need to keep costs down, I don't mind if the nappies aren't a birth to potty pack but it would great if they lasted until 6 months or so, but the longer the better. I can buy online and forward the receipt to the council, so £100 (£50 after the rebate) is my limit, thanks in advance for anyone's help.

Thanks in advance, I managed to find some in my budget, from here:

I bought terry squares second hand on e-Bay. Even with nappy liners and plastic pants it didn't add up to maore than £50.

I use cloth nappies - presently a combination of flat terry squares or totsbots.

My advise would be to try before you buy. There are so many different types of nappies around now, and of course babies come in all shapes / sizes that there is no one nappy that is best.

Other sites you might find useful are:
    thenappysite
    babykind
    ebay
    nappylady
    yahoogroup

Dormouse, how old is your little boy? Natasha's 10 months and I'm still b/f, and my periods are all over the place. I've only had 3, but they're not even approaching regular. I think there was about 6 weeks between the first two, and then two weeks after the most recent one, I am getting cramps again already.

Time for baby number 3 I think......:rotfl:
    LOL :rotfl:

Alex will be 7 months next week (where does the time go???). I'm glad I'm not the only one with a funny cycle then, IYSWIM :o. It's very unnerving not to have a period when you're expecting one and not TTCing    so thanks Snaggles and Susan for the reassurance. :D

And LOL at the sock story - I know I shouldn't laugh but... :rotfl:

tried pampers and huggies too but tesco were the only ones that contain all "fluids" overnight. :D still using huggies as I stocked up  but use my smaller stash of tesco's for night time use.

There is a breathable pad you can buy to protect baby's mattress if you are worried I got one to protect my bed in case of waters breaking!

  That's unbelievable! These are the people who are supposed to be trained to be extra sensitive.

To be fair, she did appear to be 14 or so... I love shopping on Saturdays .

We didn't heed her advice anyway (although Joseph has yet to take more than a nap in the cot). The mattress is waterproof (sounds useful with babies) and hard (as long as you turn it regularly). I didn't see the need to get extra springy, down-filled, gold plated. The rest of us would just get jealous and the guidelines say nothing about sharing the cot with two adults and a large dog!

Things went pear shaped yesterday here. Hubby is a postman and had an accident at work a couple of years ago where he damaged his knee. He was off work for ages and had physio and stuff. He's had niggly pain from it since but it's been manageable.

On Wednesday he was delivering to houses with 3 steps leading up to the front door and a letter box at the bottom of the door. He was on the steps and bending at a funny angle to put the post through when he got a stabbing pain and his knee just went. It's now painful, swollen and he struggles to bend it. He went into work yesterday and they've said he's not fit for delivery so he's been signed off on the sick again.

Early indications are that it's a cartlidge problem, which would need surgery and a long recovery period. He's going to the doctors next week to discuss his options. He's worried sick about it, which means it's serious as he's not a worrying type person.

He did say now he's going to be home a lot, he'll do more cooking as he's ok just standing which is a bonus for me though!

I'm up now because I can't sleep with the pain in this tooth again. What a pair of invalids we are
Here I go again on my own....

Oh noooo Beccles. I really hope it's not as serious as he thinks, and that he has a quick recovery.

Poor you with the toothache, have you got an appointment to get it sorted out? (sorry if I've missed you already saying)
