  • Hi!

I'd just like to post here to introduce myself, as a newbie both in terms of MSE & becoming a parent. I'd lukred for a while, but have finally gotten round to posting, and introducing myself!

Anyway I'm Mal, and my wife gave birth to our first boy Alfie just over 3 weeks ago. And we're having fun with the struggles of it all. We're very glad of the various offers for nappies that have been going on, to help ensure the extra expense isn't too great to start with! We do have reusable nappies, but the wee man isn't big enough for them yet! It's also been fun trying to figure out what we're entitled to from Child tax credits, and filling in the child benefits forms etc!!

Anyway, hope you don't mind me just jumping on to introduce myself to you all (I think this is the right thread for it? if not, sorry!) I've found this site invaluable, so thought I really ought to start contributing, and at least thanking people who's posts I've found helpful, as i'm sure i'll be back here asking for advice or thoughts soon!

When DS1 was a baby we had a lot of 'advice' from family, a lot of it used to really wind me up but DH used to tell me to just let it go in one ear and out the other and to do what i thought was best for him.
Second time around and we've not had any 'advice' up to now, but there's still plenty of time :D
We got the results from Adam's blood tests yesterday and it shows he has an underactive thyroid, which would explain why he sleeps sooooo much and why he's still so small. He's 10 weeks old and only the size of the average newborn and newborn clothes are still a little big on him.
he's been sleeping from around 8-9pm til 6-7am but once this medication kicks in that may all change and he might start getting bigger, or i might be expecting too much i don't know, we'll wait and see.

Platinum Horse, congratulations on baby Alfie xx
If everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride then we'd see the day when nobody died.
    ROCK IT DON'T STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BE GOOD OR BE GOOD AT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Evening everyone.

Welcome platinum horse and alfie. Nice to see a dad around on this thread. :D

  as well at the parents. Apparently we have upset my mum by deciding to use a family name from my mum's side as the new babies middle name. We told her on Sunday, and apparently, dad says she has been really upset about it as it is her brothers middle name and they haven't spoken for years. She thinks i have done it just to peeve her off. As if.I can think of much better ways to fill my time. I was only telling her now to prepare her as i don't want a row when the baby arrives, but i wish we just hadn't told her now.

bailey thinking of you wherever you are, hope you are comfortable and having a good time of it.

weaning - charlie was 17 weeks, ate everything we gave him at every feed, and has been a good little eater since then. Unfortunately he has been more into the junk food since starting nursery, but still has a healthy love of fruit and most veg.

    What lovely news! congratulations!!
  • Congratulations Sarah, that's fantastic!

Bailey's not been on at all today.... could this be it?

Michelle, sorry to hear about the parent hassles. It's hard enough coming up with baby names that both parents agree on, let alone ones that keep all the rest of the family happy. Hope she gets over it soon.

And hi to Platinum Horse... will be nice to get a male perspective on the thread :D
  • congratulations sarah. Brilliant news.

purple - i am going to ignore it. I am not changing my name to suit anyone, so tough. She will have to get used to it. She can have a row with a paper bag. She had a row with me the week of my scan as she didn't like the girls names i had picked. Just trying to control me a bit, and it is not happening. Too used to sulking and getting her own way with my sisters, but i am that bit older and wiser.

Congrats Sarah - that's lovely news.

Hi Platinum Horse - nice to meet you. If you've got any questions, even if they seem really small and silly ones, then just ask! We've all been worried about things at some point.

I never told anyone what my baby's names were until they arrived and I introduced the baby to people. Then it was too late for people to complain if they didn't like it!
Here I go again on my own....
  • With a little help from September Baby - here are a couple of piccies of my little darling. Cant believe he's 20 weeks old now.

BLIMEY DIDNT EXPECT THEM TO TURN OUT THAT BIG - SORRY - AM NEW TO THIS SORT OF THING
