Hello chocoholic. I also have a 6wk old who was small .4lb 7. He is eating and eating and the health visitor said that it is norm for small babies as they are playing catch up. I am breast feeding constantly too, and he is getting really cross and pulling at me and crying but wanting more. HV has advised I express my milk and give it him in a a bottle as he seems happier taking it from a bottle and not having to wait for the "let down". Since doing this for few days he is settling much better/quicker but still eating like mad. Sometimes back to back feeds but then he put on 11oz this week so the exhaustion is worth it. ( I think)
  • Bailey - good luck for the sweep tomorrow.

hi everyone. Popping in for a weekend catch up. I am starting to get scared at the thought of a newborn again - i really hope i can manage to get a good routine going, but know it won't happen till the first few months are over with,

we tried leaving DS to cry a few times, and it went on for getting on for an hour, and then we would pick him up and he would burp, and then we would feel awful, so we stopped doing it. Then, round about 11 weeks, he started just going in his cot in his gro bag, and sleeping till 5:30am ish. I think it was more fluke than anything, although we tried the nightly bathing, followed by a baby massage and then milk and sleep. We still do mostly daily baths (now needed after a hard day at nursery, or at least a good wash) and then downstairs for milk and a cuddle, then back up for the cot. It works for us, and we are sticking to it anyway. He's in bed for 7 all week, although on a weekend we may stretch to 7:30 or 8, and we have a happy boy most of the time.

We've got our 4D scan tomorrow to look forward to. My sister is watching DS for us and it will be lovely to have some time as a couple and then hopefully get some DIY done tomorrow afternoon and Sunday. I know i will blink and be at the same stage as Bailey - 291/2 weeks as now.

Sorry to see some of you feel this thread is cliquey. I don't think we are trying to be - just a lot of us have babies born very close together, so have been talking together for 18months-2years so are bound to 'know' each other well. I always love hearing about other peoples children and what they are getting up to, and what brands we are using and whether they are good etc etc. You ladies always have something to suggest for anything i am unsure about and don't want to trail to see a health visitor about.

    Anyway, enough of the rambling.

Heather - i hope your early stage fatigue passes soon. Best wishes from another pregnant mum to a toddler. Get as much rest as you can as it is a long haul compared to the 1st time.

    Michelle, x

Lol, smelly and bad hair - no wonder OH is refusing to have any more children with me!

EDIT: Just a quick update, after I bathed and fed Tom, OH put him in the moses basket and sat with him (for 75 minutes or so!!) and he fell asleep about 10 minutes ago. He had a couple of little cries but no screaming fits. Probably beginners' luck but it's a start. So, next question...do we do the same when he wakes up through the night?

I have no idea. I assume so - my baby never wakes up enough at night, I latch her on as soon as I wake up to her wimpers - so keep whatever you have to do as low key as possible, and then try and go to sleep yourself - just turn your back to the cot / crib and try to sleep.

Giving advise is not as easy as I thought - my baby doesn't do what yours does ...

Hi, never had a baby as small as yours, but I am sure this constant feeding will end in the not too distant future. I think Samantha's feeding settled down to more manageable chunks when she was about 6-8 weeks old.

Mind you, her birth weight was ... um double yours at 9lbs6oz. I really was carrying a little elephant round with me all those months :rotfl:

    thanks michelle.
we had a 4d scan with kennedy and it was amazing. not sure if we can afford it this time
  • I really hope it is worth the cash.

I am hoping for a 'bonding' experience to help me think about this baby more. With DS i was constantly thinking about him and preparing myself for his arrival in some way. Life revolved around being pregnant. This time i have had so little time to focus on the new baby due to being so busy at work and looking after DS, so i have some worries that i may get bad PND this time. It was bad enough last time, and if i am less prepared, it may be worse if you see what i mean.

It does sound a bit odd, but it makes sense to me, and i know DH is looking forward to it too as we ended up taking DS with us to the last NHS scan, the guy was really quick and didn't point out much, and DS was good but wiggly so DH was concentrating on him, and barely saw a thing. I really can't wait to check it is another DS and to see the little features on the screen and compare to features DS has.

Okay, wish me luck. This weekend, I am going to try weaning Joseph off the swaddle. When I tried it two days ago, he cried for his dummy a million times, so I had no sleep. But at the weekend, I can sleep some other time. He's in his basket now, asleep and loose, but this doesn't count as there's a feed coming...

Can someone assure me that even though he's capable of making himself bleed by scratching his face with any amount of fingernail, it is unlikely he can poke his eye out? When he rubs his eyes I often wonder how dangerous it is when they have so little motor control

lol, poor you agutka! good luck. how much does joseph weigh? is he the right weight for a grow bag yet?
also the scratching thing, we used to put socks on her hands (as they are longer) and then sellotape them to her sleeves!

Charlotte is getting very brave. She's been eating chicken jalfrezi today and she loved it. I couldn't shovel it in quick enough :D
Here I go again on my own....
  • Bailey - good luck with the sweep - I had three but none of them worked - hopefully your midewife will eb able to 'stir things up properl' or so to speak.

Cha97michelle - 4D scans are amazing - we took our 10 year old daughter with us and it was the first time she saw her baby brother (she was at school so missed all the scans we had). I would definately recommend it (and take a can of coke with you just in case baby is in the wrong position - was told that drinking a cold can of coke makes them change position) (hopefully they werent widing up the poor stupid pregnant woman).

Well I went back to work today - god i felt guilty. Rowan is still only tiny (12lb) and now 19 weeks old. Came home and cooked him enough dinners to last about a month. Theres nothing like housework to distract you from how you are really feeling:rolleyes:
