    Hi All,

Just thought I'd pop in and say hello. I've just had a baby boy called Taylor James, he's 6 days old today, and a little smasher. Thought I'd say hi and hope to speak to you all lots more.

Also - I've got a quick question for you, I've noticed today that he has a little sore red patch on the top of each leg, (it looks like it's been a blister) just under where the sticky tape from his nappy goes. I think his nappy might have been rubbing his leg, do you think this might be what it is?

    Thanx

Hi and welcome! :) Certainly sounds like it was the nappy rubbing, as it's on both legs - poor thing. You could still show it to the MW and see what she says. Or try another brand of nappy and see if it makes a difference. ;)

We had an appointment this afternoon at the hospital for adam to have a blood test to check his thyroid. He had one before we came home and his level is above the mark so they wanted a repeat one today and a repeat pku test.
Well, it took an hour and a half and 3 people.
The nurse tried getting blood from the back of adams hand, then his heel but to no avail so she sent for the doctor to try, and he did try, Adams hands, arms, and ankles but the little man was not for parting with his blood.
The doctor asked the reg to come and try and , bingo, they got what they wanted, adam was happy that he wasn't going to be messed with anymore and we came home, the poor little thing.
Poor little mite, sounds horrible (I hate blood tests :o). Hope the results come back okay! :)

Hiya. Welcome to the thread!

Hope Tyler still doing well. It does sound like his skin is being irritated by the nappy. He could have particularly sensitive skin. Let your midwife/health visitor have a look when you get chance. It might be worth checking that the nappies you're using aren't too small. (You can't always go on the sizes listed on the packet as the fit varies according to the shape of the baby.) You could also try different brands, in case there's something irritating him in that particular brand.

    Hi,

Yes your hair does fall out for a short time after having a baby, I think it lasted about a month for me.

I've got long hair so I had to unblock the plug after every shower!

  • I'm starting to notice more hair coming out too, SB. I think it's making up for the absence of loss during pregnancy. So long lovely blooming stage :(

I have four boys, The youngest has just turned 1 and still has a boob or two in the evening before bed along with a weetabix or two after bathtime so he's nice and full.I'm really feeling that enough is enough as he tends to want to nibble boob..ouch! Although I think I'd feel guilty stopping him as he enjoys to feed.

He doesn't take formula or cows milk from a cup as he doesn't seem to really like it (hence the weetabix to help fill up). last night he didn't seem particularly seem that interested as was so tired. When he is interested he's on for about 5 mins or less on each boob. Should I just stop this feed or should I continue as a comfort measure and the fact that he doesn't drink any other milk on its own.

    Hi Julie

As far as dropping bf at that age - I suspect it will be a lot easier than you would think. Chances are he's not actually drinking that much milk anyway so it's more of a comfort thing than a nutritional issue.

If he really doesn't like milk, he'll still be fine drinking plenty of water. Try and give him plenty of dairy products, if he likes them, yoghurts and cheese as snacks etc. They give the nutritional benefits of milk in a more concentrated form.

I stopped breastfeeding at about 9 months with my eldest and just switched to him having plain water in a tommee tippee cup at bedtime. (He refused formula too.) He didn't seem to miss bf at all and I didn't have swollen breasts after stopping so I don't think he was getting much milk by then anyway.

If you think the time is right for you and your baby, go with your instincts. Good luck x
  • Thanks, ladies. I got really upset about it earlier :o ... glad I'm not alone.

Will have to ask DH to clear the plughole or guzzle down some MrMuscle :D
