some days I think, this is alright, I could have a whole bunch running around... and other days I'm sure he'll be my only baby.
Ha ha, that's pretty normal, I think. I have days like '   whose bright idea was it to have two kids', and other days are like ':A could have 5 more' :rotfl:

Hello, I'd like some advice from as many of you all as I can please...

I have four boys, The youngest has just turned 1 and still has a boob or two in the evening before bed along with a weetabix or two after bathtime so he's nice and full.
My third child weaned himself off the boob at 10mths.

I'm really feeling that enough is enough as he tends to want to nibble boob..ouch! Although I think I'd feel guilty stopping him as he enjoys to feed.
He doesn't take formula or cows milk from a cup as he doesn't seem to really like it (hence the weetabix to help fill up). last night he didn't seem particularly seem that interested as was so tired. When he is interested he's on for about 5 mins or less on each boob. Should I just stop this feed or should I continue as a comfort measure and the fact that he doesn't drink any other milk on its own.

Also.....He tends to fall asleep on boob..now...for the third child we did controlled crying which worked for us but this time around the youngest is sharing a room with his brother so we're very wary at trying this in case he disturbs the 3yr old..then we end up with both up...especially in the night...if the 3yr old used to wake up we would leave him and he would make a racket for a few mins than would settle himself off but we daren't do it with this one.
What would be the best way to go about this as the third child used to be tea, bath, milk in cup, teeth clean then bed...bit of cry then sleep...but this way wouldn't work this time as well?!!

Any advice on both these topics would be gratefully received....my older two are 14 and 12 and haven't the foggiest idea as to what I used to do with them.....I feel really stupid and useless for not remembering!

    Cheers everyone..sorry for rambling on.

  • Bailey: We just bought a new travel cot from Mothercare and it only has mesh panels in the sides and not in the ends. We were given a boucy chair at 5 weeks so used it from then with no problems. I was a bit dubious about getting one but Alice much preferred being able to see around rather than lying on her back on the floor. BF: I was only aiming for four months to start with as I found it so difficult and it was not until about 2 months that I thought I'd be able to manage six so I'd definitely say short targets is the way to go.

Julie: My Grandad reckons that everyone forgets what they did with previous children so there's no need to feel stupid. Really with BF it depends what you feel happy with. I did read somewhere that a good way to introduce a "snuggly" is to have it with you when you're feeding them so that they associate it with the comfort of feeding. If you're able to express, perhaps you could try getting him to have EBM from a cup and then gradually switch to formula or cow's milk? (I don't have any experience of either of these though as I'm still BF and Alice doesn't fall asleep feeding so it's just based on what I've read.)
  • My bouncing chair says from birth on it. If you are worried look on argos website for one that looks similar and see what it says.

    Random-ness...

Can't remember who was asking...but my AF turned up this morning!

Thinking it might have something to do with goin back on the pill 4(ish)days ago - since I'm still BFing, although not as often now!
(Samantha doesn't seem to mind the odd formula feed!)

Bailey - congrats on the travel cot - have been looking at buying one, they're blimmin' pricey! :o

As for bouncer chair, my best mate (Samantha's God-Ma to be) bought us a fantastic bouncer to toddler rocker in one...that's suitable from birth, and Samantha loves it!

  • Hi All,

Just thought I'd pop in and say hello. I've just had a baby boy called Taylor James, he's 6 days old today, and a little smasher. Thought I'd say hi and hope to speak to you all lots more.

Also - I've got a quick question for you, I've noticed today that he has a little sore red patch on the top of each leg, (it looks like it's been a blister) just under where the sticky tape from his nappy goes. I think his nappy might have been rubbing his leg, do you think this might be what it is?

    Thanx

I BF DS1 for 21 months and DS2 for 16 months and my advise is to BF for as long as you want. I stopped with DS1 as I was pg, and he just went off the boob (and they were sore, so convenient) and with DS2 I got cracked nipples and at his age he was having a very balance diet, so I just thought sod it and stopped giving him boob.

As your DS is not having much milk, I really think you should speak to your HV for some advise. You don't mention anything about his diet, except for the weetbix.

Finally regarding going to sleep on the boob, I really shouldn't give advise as we did this. If you don't get any suggestions for the other mums, I'll give you the full run down of what we eventually did - all credit to DH as I was just too soft, but it is quite a long story ....

We had an appointment this afternoon at the hospital for adam to have a blood test to check his thyroid. He had one before we came home and his level is above the mark so they wanted a repeat one today and a repeat pku test.
Well, it took an hour and a half and 3 people.
The nurse tried getting blood from the back of adams hand, then his heel but to no avail so she sent for the doctor to try, and he did try, Adams hands, arms, and ankles but the little man was not for parting with his blood.
The doctor asked the reg to come and try and , bingo, they got what they wanted, adam was happy that he wasn't going to be messed with anymore and we came home, the poor little thing.
If everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride then we'd see the day when nobody died.

    Hi Julie,

I stopped BFing my DS1 a week before his first birthday, so here's my story, if it helps at all.

Firstly, it all happened way easier than I ever expected it to. :j He was only having two milk feeds a day from 8 months onwards, and first we dropped the morning one, which was easy. About a week later, I decided to deal with the bedtime feed. My DS1, too, used to fall asleep on the boob, so I was a bit worried, but as I've said, it was actually no problem at all.

What we did was do a big song and dance about how he's a big boy now and was going to have a big boy cup with (cows) milk in the evening. I also bribed him with a biscuit (a tradition that still remains to this day... :o well at least he brushes his teeth afterwards! :D), which probably helped as he was chuffed to bits about having a treat at bedtime.

So all in all, it was really easy for us to wean him off the boob. I was actually a bit hurt, as he didn't seem to mind it at all or miss it at all. Well not really hurt but YKWIM! :rotfl:

My DS1 wasn't tremendously keen on cows' milk BTW, well he drank small amounts, so we started with smaller amounts first and I gradually increased them. ;)

And BTW I do agree you should do it whenever you both feel ready. I certainly felt that for me, a year was enough, although I appreciate this varies for everyone.

    Good luck :)
