  • Alice's first two colds were about a week and the third was three weeks. The fourth one was probably about two weeks but turned into a cough as well. Excluding the cough and a couple of short crying spells with the first one they haven't bothered her really.

I gave Alice some leek in a bowl today and she was far more interested in eating the bowl than the leek.
  • Re the awkward questions for the 4 year old. I have been pondering over this one and found this link

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A596081

it doesn't answer your question directly but it might help.

How about "Mummy and Daddy love each other very much and we wanted another baby just like you, so one night Daddy gave mummy a cuddle and showed her he loves here and that's how your Alex came about."

Although you risk him then thinking every time mummy and daddy cuddle he's going to get another sibling. So maybe not.............

I don't know its a tough one. Maybe someone else has dealt with this.

Jack has worn huggies for two nights running and so far no leaks, we are going to give it a week to see how it goes.

We haven't got Jack much for xmas at all. He had quite a lot for his birthday, so we kept some presents back and have put £20 in his bank account. He will have stuff from family so he wont dip out. I don't think its bad or anything to feel guilty about giving the baby second hand sibling toys. Next door did that one year, it makes sense especiallly if money is short. I'd go with the toy recycling for as long as you can, which in reality is only a year or two!

We thought as Jack is still too young to understand about xmas and when he is older and wants driving lessons etc, he will have a start with the deposit building slowly.

    I've just found this

It gives a specific phrase of what to say. The bit about invisible sperm made me laugh.
  • Advice is freely given re fertility issues as it's such a hormonal minefield.

I think the IVF drugs gives a boost to the natural hormones which is why natural conception happens not long after - in my case 2 months after.

It's good news that they've managed to get some eggs, it's a step closer to the BFP, it must be heartbreaking to invest so much with the injections etc and not get any eggs.

DH and I had our first night out since Katie was born, it was SIL's 40th. It was an OK night, we both missed Katie loads, his sister was surprised that we'd left Katie at home (grandparents were babysitting), but Katie goes to bed at 7pm so wouldn't have enjoyed herself.

Katie did impress me though as she's not had a bottle since she was 6 weeks old and she took 5oz for my mum without a fuss - she did get a funny look when she realised it wasn't mummy cuddling her! Katie was still awake when I got home - not crying just lying in her cot - she was waiting for us to come home I think - she had such a full tummy I had to wake her up at 8am for her breakfast!

    Merry Christmas

How are the babies enjoying Christmas so far?

Charlotte must forget about the decorations during the night. When I carry her downstairs on a morning, and she sees the tree and lights and stuff, she gets mega excited and we have to go and look at everything and touch things :D

I'm really looking forward to seeing her face in the morning when all the presents are there.

Hope all the families have a lovely peaceful Christmas xx

  • I think Alice will be glad to finally get at the pile of presents she's been so interested in. (We just stick them straight under the tree when they're wrapped.)

We just got a letter for Alice's 8-12 month development check. Those who've had it, what sort of things do they do/ask and roughly how long does it take?

at her's kennedy had her weight length and head circumferance done by the HV.
the dr then checked her spine and hips, her pincer grip and eye to hand coordination, her eye movement and a few other bits, asked about her bladder and bowel movements and her eating habits.
then HV gave us some toothpaste and a toothbrush (free) and gave us her 1st bookstart bag.

Charlotte was poorly for Christmas. She woke up normal time yesterday (7.30am), and she was all croaky and coughing and sneezing.

We went down and opened all the presents and she enjoyed ripping the paper off things and we got some toys out for her to play with. She had some breakfast, then by mid-morning she was falling asleep, so I put her to bed.

She got up when my parents came, opened some more presents and had some dinner, then went to bed again!

She slept till late afternoon and had a bit play, some tea, bit more play, then she wanted to go to bed, so I bathed her and put her down.

She woke up around 10pm crying and coughing, so I gave her Calpol and Tixylix and put Olbas Oil on her bedding. Every time she coughs she wakes herself up, so I've been up most of the night wandering up and down the landing rocking her back to sleep.

She's still poorly and grotty this morning, but currently rolling round on the floor playing with her new toys. Got more hubby's family coming to see us this afternoon, so hope she is a bit happier when they arrive.

Awww, bless her, sorry you didn't get much sleep though.

Natasha was a bit overwhelmed by her first Xmas, and had quite a few sleeps too - I think she enjoyed all the noise and attention but every now and then she needed a bit of quite time and a cuddle with Mummy (I didn't mind :D).

Big brother did a fabulous job of keeping her entertained though - here they are having a dance....lol!
