Natasha looks beautiful! I want to know how to paste a pic into a message! I'm a bit inept with some technology!

Well, we've had two mental days with Xmas yesterday and Imogen's birthday today. Turns out it was a good job we didn't buy her much because the families bought the entire contents of Boots toy & clothes range, ELC, Mothercare, M&S...

We have some pics of Imogen with all her Xmas day pressies and they cover a 3m square area   It took four shifts to open everything, starting around 7am, then 11am, then after lunch, then after a walk! Then we repeated the whole exercise today. Most people have completely ignored out pleas to not buy for her birthday so I think we'll be putting the house on the market.

We have decided to put away all the toys and books which were birthday presents and get them out on 26 June - her half-day. Clothes she will wear but everything else will stay hidden until then. We will be buying something like a swing and she has a tunnel from my parents and a doll from my grandma which are still wrapped. I'm sure she'll be just as excited at pulling them from a bag (she likes doing that ;) ).

We haven't gone overboard on each other either, but OH has bonus points for buying me a cashmere jumper in a beautiful turquiose. The first time he's ever bought me clothes on his own (in 9 years) and something I really wanted. :T

Hope you've all had a fab couple of days. Update avatars or paste pics soon (I will when I figure out how!)

    Thank you both! :)

Lu, I use photobucket - you can open an accout with them free, and then you upload photos from your computer onto it (it's really easy). Once they are uploaded, there is an 'IMG' code underneath, and you just copy and paste that into your post on here.

  • Hi Susan,

Katie had her 8 month check last week, she was weighed, measured (length and head), legs, spine, whether she grabbed for things and passed them from hand to hand - the HV asked me about her sight, hearing etc.

I also had to complete the PND questions again.

Katie got so many pressies that she had to open them in 3 shifts, 2 on Christmas Day and 1 this morning. Katie also slept alot I think she needed the time to process all the new things that she had seen. She enjoyed her Christmas Dinner, apart from sprouts - I just laid it out on her highchair tray and she helped herself.

Glad everyone had a nice Christmas. :) Ours was nice, although Alex didn't really have a clue what was going on. :rotfl:

Becles, hope Charlotte is feeling a bit better. We've had a non-stop cold for what feels like weeks now  , so I know what it's like not getting much sleep. :(

Here's a pic of my little guys yesterday. :kisses3: I'm usually a bit paranoid about posting personal pics on the net, but this is so cute I can't resist. :o

  • Dormouse, that is a lovely pic, the two boys look very much like each other! I know what you mean about non stop cold, Jack and I have had one since his birthday with no sign of it going either. We always have the snot rag at hand for him and tissues for me.

I'm glad everyone had a lovely christmas and the babies did too by all accounts.

I've just posted the below on the depression and I want to buy it threads, but I also thought I would copy it here, as someone might know of something to help us. Depression between parents is common and you may know of someone whose had it.

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to this thread but I had a question to ask.

I have had PND since our son was born 13 months ago, which is compounded by the fact i've been off medication since May due to becoming accidentially pregnant again. I'm now 32 weeks and find most days i'm struggling with my moods.

My husband has also recently been diagnosed with depression and is on 10mg of citalopram. The cause of his is primarily feeling trapped in a job he hates, the dark of winter and not enough sleep. I've always felt as he hates and suffers in the winter so much he has a mild form of SAD. Someone suggested he get a light box to sit on his desk at work, but I don't know anything about what is a good one, reasonable price etc.

We can't afford too much as we've got another baby coming soon, but I really want to help my husband, who in turn can support me more if he feels better.

I did a quick search through this thread but not too thoroughly as time is of an essance, as it always is with babies in the house.

I have also googled light boxes and looked on ebay, but there are so many different styles, types, specs that we just don't know what is good and not, what you need and what is a gimmick.

Please can someone advise on their experiences?

    Many thanks,

    Bay

Awww - that is a lovely picture of your boys :)

Everyone still coughing and sneezing here and now I've caught it!

James has also been vomiting and had the trots this morning. Charlotte didn't eat much breakfast, and the boys just had an apple each!

Got no visitors today, so I'm just going to slob around and do absolutely nothing all day!

Not sure about which lightboxes bailey, but I did read an article about them once and they sound really good.

Is hubby indoors a lot at work? I used to work in a company and the lab was in the middle of the building, so it didn't have any external windows. I used to feel down in the winter as I was going to work in the dark, staying inside all day, then going home in the dark. I started going out for a walk at lunchtime and just getting out for 15-30 mins in the daylight helped me feel better. Just thought I'd suggest it in case a walk is an option for him.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Hi all, glad everyone had a nice Christmas and sorry to hear about all the illness going round. We had Christmas Day on our own and then yesterday my family came round in the afternoon and we had presents from my brothers (who weren't organised enough to give us the presents in advance :p ) then OH's parents are visiting at the start of January ('cause we didn't know when OH would be working and didn't want them to come all the way up and not see him) so it'll be presents from them, OH's brothers and OH's Auntie and Uncle. Even though my family didn't go over board and neither did we it still seems like Alice has got a mountain of toys so we'll probably have a sort out after OH's family have been.

My new avatar is Alice enjoying goose and sprouts for Christmas dinner.

Alice has got her first tooth. It's quite a shock as I was 9 months and OH was one so I didn't expect her to get any for ages.

Bailey, hope you manage to get something sorted out. I don't know about light boxes but I think it is possible to get special light bulbs which have the full spectrum of light which may be cheaper and also less obtrusive and you would just have them on automatically when it was dark rather than specifically having to remember a light box... Just had a little search and there's one here from Spirit of Nature but it may be possible to get them cheaper elsewhere. Hope that's useful.
  • Hi everyone,

My name is Valentine and I had a baby girl in late July this year, at home in the birthing pool. I used to post on the MSE pregnancy thread but haven't been on the MSE forum for a wee while.

My daughter is doing brilliantly - she's 5 months old this week, time is just flying and she's a real superstar - a really chilled out happy contented soul. She's got her first cold this week, which has been bad timing with Christmas but she's coping well. I am trying to learn about weaning and baby led weaning at the moment (planning to wean around 6 months) - so if anyone has any crucial tips, please post them! I'm stupidly nervous about it.

One other question I did have - someone posted about the child growth charts for breastfed babies being available from the World Health Organisation website - can someone please post the direct link to this please as I can't find it! Thank you in advance.

Its encouraging that there are a few people having their next baby already, I'd like to be pregnant this time next year - if only I didn't have to go back to work - if I didn't, I'd be jumping on OH already!

Happy to meet you all again!

    Valentine X

    congratulations on your daughter.
kennedy has been ill over the holidays, she's cut a new tooth and her poor bum is red raw and she has a streaming cold, she seemed to enjoy the big day, but has spent most of today asleep.
but my little angel took her first steps on boxing day!! she walked 2 steps to grandma for a hug! she's not done it since mind you!
  • Hi Valentine, welcome, I vaguely remember you from the pregnancy thread but it's all a bit fuzzy as I was ill and our internet kept being discontinued (ISP went bust). We're doing BLW with Alice - we just give her chunks of food she can hold and let her get on with it while we eat our meal. So far (we've been doing it for a month - started at 7 months) Alice doesn't actually seem to ingest anything but she enjoys it and she doesn't seem to be suffering from hunger so it doesn't really matter. I have heard of babies who were consuming quite a lot within three days of starting. There's a BLW yahoo group which I've found useful: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/B-LW/

Those people who's babies have got teeth: what are they like with tooth cleaning. We've tried twice to clean Alice's tooth but she won't entertain the toothbrush going in her mouth.
