  • And can anyone recommend a night nappy which will do the job? Jack has gone back to his 5.30am wakenings and both times been wet, which I'm hoping is the cause of it. He used to wake up dry with Pampers Dry nights but he would have a red bum in the morning. We use tesco purple packet during the day anyway and other people said they use them at night. Since we've done that its been hit and miss as to whether he's dry. We've tried to go up a size and fasten it lower to ensure the leg cuffs don't leak. A friend of mine is coming around today and is going to lend me a couple of huggies 12 hours. But I wondered as we all use different things here, what experiences you've had.

Also just to add he's a size 4 during the day and we've used size 4 and 4+ at night, with mixed success. He had a 7oz bottle at night, but I can't reduce this as he wakes hungry, plus it also makes up his 20oz a day.

Weird as I use the Tesco purple ones for Izzy and they cope with almost anything and she, shall we say, takes after daddy with her bowel habits - I seem to get about four a day, usually one waiting for me in the morning and that's on top of her having a bottle before bedtime and then another one before my bedtime! Never leaks. Perhaps they are better for girls.

There are some product reviews on Mumsnet here in which Tesco nappies came out top, but Huggies Supreme came next. Although not sure they make Supreme nappies anymore, although they do come up as being sold on mothercare.com if you google them. Huggies Superdry, which I think are the ones your friend is giving you to try, come bottom. However, there are only 3 reviews of them, 2 out of 3 are positive, the other reviewer just seems to have a downer on Huggies. Not sure, but think Superdry might be the replacement for Supreme. Anyone know?

Pleased to hear your trip out went well MrsW82.

I think Charlotte was about 4 weeks old when I first took her out on my own. We only went to a town 3 miles away. She had some cheques and I wanted to open a building society account for her, so we did that and got a couple of other bits of shopping. I came back feeling like I'd climbed Mount Everest :D

I haven't bought Charlotte much stuff for Christmas either, as I don't think she will understand. She's getting a VTech Dancing Tower which looks fun, especially as she loves singing and dancing, then a couple of smaller bits. I bought some Wonder Cubes from the Early Learning Centre, which are just plastic cubes with different things to look at inside - like beads, sparkly sequins, holograms - that kind of thing. I think she'll find them really interesting and she loves looking at things.
Here I go again on my own....

We have bought Natasha a V-Tech Discovery Tree, as she plays with one at the health centre and loves it (she pants and kicks her legs when she sees it, because she's so excited, bless her!).

She hasn't got much of anything else though, just a few stocking fillers.

Ryan has quite a bit more, so I'm going to have to tread carefully to avoid the obvious question of 'why' (hence the stocking fillers, to make Natasha's pile of presents look bigger).

  • DS is 1 today :D I can't believe it was only a little over 2 years ago we were told we'd need IVF. We are very very lucky:j .

Comparatively few presents though, as he doesn't need anything so instead of spending lots of stuff he'll never remember or care about, we're booked into a local photographers for a family portrait in the new year.
(We might bring the cat too - we took him for some V enture pics a couple of years ago...;) )

I am now starting to feel guilty about lack of birthday cake, so we may call into Sainsburys on the way back from the playgym for some plainish sponge.

Work were OK about me having Wed pm off ( well, more or less ) and I have agreed to go a meeting on a Wed morning in the new year, so they can't say I am not a team player...:p

Merry Christmas one and all.

This weekend OH shouted me downstairs to come and see what she was up to. She'd just had breakfast and I'd put her in the living room where I know she can do pretty much anything and be safe. OH had found her sat in the middle of the floor with my handbag next to her. She'd got the emergency packet of biscuits out of it and was sat surrounded by them and with one in each hand, taking alternate bites! :rotfl: :rotfl: The little beggar had got up on to her knees, clambered up the sofa with her hands to kneeling up and pulled my handbag down from off the sofa. Cheeky thing!
:rotfl: Well you know what her finger food preference is now. :D
I think I'm going to have a rummage through the toychest before christmas day and see if I can find some old toys of Olivia's that haven't been passed down yet. I know there's a little touch leap pad somewhere - if I can find some bits, would it be really naff to wrap them up for Izzy?!! Olivia's bound to notice but I'm sure I can explain that situation ok, perhaps they could be her own presents to her baby sister.
I would think that's fine. It's not really any different to buying second hand toys as presents - they're just second hand from big sister. You could get Olivia to help wrap them so that she knows in advance rather than getting a shock on the day that Izzy's been given "her" toys. (I have no idea whether a four year old would be any use at wrapping presents so just ignore it if it's a very silly idea.)

Alice hasn't got any teeth yet but I didn't till 9 months and OH was one so not really expecting them yet. Ever since she started dribbling lots (about 2 months I think) people keep telling us she must be teething.

Natasha dribbles a lot when her teeth hurt too, and she rubs her tongue on her gums (quite clever really) to ease the pain.

She's just discovered that she can pull herself up to standing on the furniture, but isn't really steady enough on her feet yet, so she keeps falling over. I'm debating about buying her a crash helmet for Xmas!

I'm feeling a bit crappy because my sisters IVF (well, ICSI) has failed, so she is really upset. My Mum keeps telling me how hurtful she must find it whenever I mention anything to do with Natasha. I'm not sure this is strictly true - obviously I am going to be tactful and not keep talking about how wonderful it is to be a Mum, but if I hide her away and don't mention her at all, surely that will be just as bad?

Having my first period since having Natasha though (ouch, forgot how painful period pains are), so I might not be thinking very clearly. :o

  • Hi Snaggles,

I have experience of failed IVF, yes it hurts like hell but support and hugs are all needed.

Not mentioning it would be just as bad as your sister will then feel guilty for making you feel like this. Take your sister's lead in whether she wants to talk about Natasha.

I'd hate to think my sister (if I had one) couldn't enjoy being a mum for feeling guilty about my issues.

Give your sister a big hug from me.

Well done on Natasha standing :j:j Katie needs a crash helmet she's bumped her head 3 times this week

P.S. DD is a miracle baby - a natural conception after 8 years treatment - don't tell your sister though as she will be sick of hearing stories like this - I know I was.

Thank for the advice MDW, I'm sorry you went through it too.

It's amazing how many people have stories similar to yours, and have conceived naturally after having unsuccesful fertility treatment. I'm not sure whether that's possible for her or not (her fertility problems were caused by chemotherapy as she had cancer as a child), but the fact that they managed to harvest eggs this time (they didn't get any the first time) is a good sign I think.

  • Afternoon everyone.

I am just popping in to let you all know how my scan went. All looks well with the baby, and they think it is another little boy, so a good job i didn't buy the little pink shoes with butterflys on that i saw on monday. :rotfl: He looks a dead ringer for DS1.

Hope you are all ready for xmas. Charlie hasn't got that much either. A slide, a vtech vsmile baby, and a couple of books/jigsaws, and a skittle set. I know my mum and MIL and both my sisters have gone crackers, so i didn't see the point. He is just as happy with boxes and paper, and it is more clutter for the house to then find somewhere to store, and then clean around. Looking forward to the 2 weeks at home with him more than anything else.

nappies - i have always used the pamper baby dry, but my friend uses tesco ones with no problem. It is really weird how the different types suit some babies better than others. We've only had a couple of leakers when he has slept 13 hours, or had too many drinks of water through the day on daddy's shift. The gel stuff is horrible when they leak.

I may not pop on again before the big day, so i would like to wish you all a very happy xmas with your little ones, and best wishes for the new year.

  • I found Huggies leaked on my Charlie (especially after a poo!) but have been using Sainsburys Little ones and they brillant. I think they are cut a bit like Pampers but a lot cheaper!!!
