Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 26th July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Hubby's been dropped at the station, fish fed & breakfast eaten, I'm off to DD's soon just for an hour to watch the DGD's while she does the school run as her car broke down yesterday & DS isn't well enough to mend it yet.
Plans for today include clearing up the cat !!!!!! from beside my front door & then buying some sort of repellent, as it horrible to have the smell as we walk in & out the house. I've tried planting stuff there but they just dig it up or trample on it to use the area.
I need to buy a gammon joint to slice up for hubby's sandwiches & maybe have a mooch round the charity shops.
Reverbe, I have a copy of 'The Help' if you'd like it, I'd be happy to post it to you, it was one of 4 books I bought a while ago & then realised I couldn't read any of them as the print is too small.
I'm saving up for a Kindle, but have to pay my car insurance & buy a new tyre first.
Have a good day everybody.
Hugs Hester

Good morning everyone - just relaxing and having my first coffee of the day.

Am off for two weeks now so I bid you so long, farewell and adieu till I return. Hope the things which have gone bad go away and the things which make you happy stay with you.

    Morning...

Been MIA from posting here for a looooong time though been lurking on MSE & reading threads... Life has been busy including graduating from Uni (2 years ago, eek!!) and culminating 6 weeks ago in moving to a new town & house for a new job - so living & working in Kent now.

So am out from 8-6 five days a week now (shock to the system!!) and need to get myself organised and back on track. Still OS at heart and treated myself to a beautiful bright red kitchen-aid mixer few months ago (with which I discovered you can make dough for cinnamon sugar tear & share bread...) but need to remotivate with meal planning, etc. Gonna pay my youngest DD(15) to do couple of hours basic cleaning each week so it doesn't all feel totally unmanageable but have a garage full of boxes to sort through, declutter & lots of craft/card-making things to eBay...

So where better to be (back) than the Daily!! :)

Good morning Hardup Hester and Gers and anyone else. Longtime lurker and occasional poster coming out of lurkdom. I've been reading OS for years and occasionally try to take part in the challenges- often failing miserably! However now I've given myself a good kick up the backside and need to start saving money etc.

I'm currently on school holidays and apart from a little planning for September have very little school work to do:T so I'm hoping to spend the next 6 weeks simplifying my life, house etc. Started yesterday sorting out the black hole that is my understairs cupboard  I chucked away to black bin bags of old shoes, paint splattered coats and just general junk. Today I'm hoping to attack the kitchen cupboards- particularly my plastics cupboard..............

Best go and get my breakfast so I'm fully of much needed energy for the task ahead! Hope you all have a wonderful OS day!

    empy:)

    Good Morning x
Hester - I know what you mean about the cat poo:mad: Have you tried Olbas Oil on used teabags? I find they work really well.

I didnt post much yesterday but read. I was sorting out DS3 birthday presents which is on Thursday. it looks like I will have to go back out today but will take DS2 with me.

Jackie G - hope hubby's job interview went well x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Good morning all.
Thanks for starting the thread HH. Cars are so expensive aren't they? Tyres seem to cost lots. We need to get a new starter motor today. Don't know how much it will cost. Hadn't budgeted for that!

Gers - safe journeying. Hope you've got a bit more info now than just get on the plane, get off the plane and get met by someone.

Got lots of heavy washing dried on the line yesterday. Going to risk it again today, although there are some grey clouds looming.

My pasta carbonara was interesting yesterday. I think I was too worried about salmonella and so my pasta was coated in scrambled egg rather than a sauce!! Will try to do better next time.

Dinner today should be more successful: Toad in the hole with runner beans and potatoes from the garden for 10 of us. I am constantly playing catch-up with the dish and pot washing at the moment.

Happy Tuesday peeps. Hugs for those who need or want.
    Cheers m'dears, Silver x

    Morning everyone

Overcast here this morning, hopefully the sun will get out later. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock. 1 x load out on the washing line already. Boys away at MIL's spoke to DS2 last night and he absolutely loved the summer school, the only other student he would know from his school didn't go - so he has made some new friends - I'm so relieved it's turning out ok!

Dinner for DH and I was a potato bake, I made this when I came in from work, (I bought 5kg of washed white potatoes - they are so watery and yukky - they are horrible if mashed so have had to use them differently), sausages, bacon, egg and baked beans - wasn't something I would normally do but made a nice change - still have half the potato bake left - so we'll be having that with something - maybe be battered fish for him, and some kind of fish for me.

Work was reasonably busy yesterday morning then was much quieter in the afternoon - think that may be the general theme over the holidays. Will be hoping to buy the boys school shoes this week, as we're away at the end of the holiday - and any choice will be gone by then, at least that will be one bit of uniform sorted!

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Good morning ladies!! (where are our men? Halight?)

Not posted for ages as life took over but wanted to share some good news with all my friends on here!!

I am a Nanna again to 11lb Toby!! He was born in less than 4 hours labour and was in danger of being born in the hospital car park in his eagerness to arrive!! He's gorgeous & so placid, just like his grandad!!

Finally got a new assistant after being on my own at work. Can't believe it's nearly a year since my colleague passed away.

Been managing to find time to grow a few veggies & keep on the OS wagon & I'm pleased to report that my new lady shares our interests so I'm looking forward to sharing home made soups etc for lunch & swopping our homegrown goodies!!

    Hugs to all in need!!
